Minor parties can win by gaining influence in the main parties. That's what Sanders tried doing and what Buhari did, and what trump would hope to do. Underestimating them is perilous.

That's how it has always been and that's how it will be. It's the result of the Presidential system of government in US which is different from the Parliamentary system that Britain uses.

In this instance there's no difference. Most parties are a caucus of different groups who come together for a purpose. The UK Labour Party is a classic example. It's a union of many different groups joining together to oppose other groups, and is why we agree a trump party will diminish the Gops as a union would, after recent events, be almost impossible since trump will tarnish any caucus he joins.
