Like I said, check your heart. Is it not what's on the inside that will make a man to take alcohol to defy himself? Before you drink that alcohol, haven't you been thinking about it? You don't become a murderer when you kill someone, you were already a murderer before you committed the crime because you have been thinking about it.

By context, read the remaining verses:
Matt 15:18-20 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

What about the wine miracle which was Jesus first miracle?
Re: Can A Christian Drink An Alcoholic Drink? by Nobody:
I don't believe that's a correct interpretation of what the Bible teaches.

Drunkenness is a sin, not consuming alcoholic drinks; same way gluttony is a sin, not eating food. Who do you think made palm-wine? God? Did he make anything bad? And didn't you read that Jesus himself turned water to wine or you think that was fruit juice? Generally, if the culture in Nigeria is against alcohol, I keep away, lest my good be spoken of as evil, but when in France or South Africa, I may enjoy a glass of wine with the brothers there.

The crux of the matter is that one's liberty, regardless of what it may be, must not lead another brother or sister into sin. So we know we have liberty to enjoy some fine wine without getting drunk, but if a younger believer who looks up to one sees him/her drinking wine and does same, but ends up drunk because he does not have the same level of self control, God will count it against that elder brother or sister for not restraining or giving up his liberty. Why you may ask? Because you are no longer walking in love when you do something that causes another to stray (not any different from a sister wearing suggestive clothes that may cause a struggling brother to lust).

This is what the Holy Spirit through Paul was trying to convey in Romans 14 and 1 Cor 6. Food or drink, when taken in moderation and with thanksgiving, cannot defile a believer!

Nothing is wrong with moderate consumption of alcoholic drink like every other things in life.

I love taking banana wine (like in the attached images), so because the banana went through fermentation it then becomes a sin to consume?

That you are okay with something doesn't mean God is okay with it. Don't ever take God's longsuffering as an excuse for doing something.

God made bananas, but not for it to go through fermentation for alcoholic consumption. Now instead of spending so much time trying to prove that alcohol is good, why not go down on your face before the Lord to find out whether or not your own heart is good or evil. Your thoughts are not God's thoughts.

1. God made palm wine, He made alcohol, tobacco etc.. The problem is how people use it makes it unclean (Rom 14:14 kjv). For instance, tobacco is used as a rat poison. It is also used to draw out poison from somebody ; like scorpion and bear, but people end up smoking it just like the devil in (Job 41). Same with alcohol, it is used to make medicine, not for consumption as a drink.

2. (John 2) "The marriage in Cana, the first public miracle in the New Testament." Read vs 6. Each pot contained 18 to 27 gallons, so six waterpots of stone would be anywhere from 72 to 162 gallons of liquor. If it was fermented, it could have gotten an army drunk (Lev 10:9-10; Hab 2:15 kjv). Face it: Jesus Christ broke the law if He created fermented liquor. It was not; it was a supernatural wine. Notice in the passage that He is speaking of His death on the cross (John 2:4 kjv) in connection with the wine. You are told that the grape that has "pure blood" is "in the cluster" (Isa 65:8 kjv), on "the vine" (Matt 26:29 kjv). It was not fermented liquor at all. That wine is a picture of Christ's pure blood. If it was fermented, His blood cannot take away sins.

3. Don't follow culture or traditions, but after Christ (Col 2:8 kjv).

4. Your liberty can make another to stumble. (1 Cor 8:9 kjv) "9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak." Now imagine your church congregation seeing your pastor relaxing in a bar filled with all kind of people living like the devil, while drinking his beer or alcoholic wine, what do you think will happen to the weaker members?

5. You better be careful how you go to the Bible. If you go to the Bible with a preconceived notion, it will break your full neck.

6. Instead of spending so much time trying to prove that drinking alcohol is good, why not go down upon your face before God to find out whether or not your heart is good or evil.

7. Alcohol can be an idol in your life. why? Because every time that thing comes up, it trips your trigger. You say how do I know? It's because somebody is kicking your god, and you'll do everything to defend it, including using the Scriptures. An idol is the thing that you worship, just like people worship celebrities and will always defend them because they are nice people in the eyes of men. Your thoughts is not God's thoughts.

Jesus created the best wine ever. He turned water into wine, not to fruit juice.

FACT: Every wine is alcoholic. Fermentation process is very key in alcohol production.

Jesus obviously drank alcohol.

What the Bible condemned is excess intake of alcohol.

Traditional Jewish wedding celebrations
included drinking wine, and Jesus' first
miracle was turning water into wine at the
wedding in Cana (John 2:1–11 ). It is safe
to assume that He also partook in drinking
the wine in moderation. Another Jewish
tradition, the Passover celebration, also
generally included wine, which the Bible
sometimes refers to as the "fruit of the
vine" (Matthew 26:27–29 ; Mark 14:23–25 ;
Luke 22:17–18 ). Jesus certainly partook of
the Passover cup.

Luke 7 indicates that Jesus drank alcohol
at times. While John the Baptist did not
drink wine, it is implied that Jesus did drink
wine, for the religious leaders of the day
accused Him of being a drunkard. Jesus
said: "For John the Baptist has come
eating no bread and drinking no wine, and
you say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of
Man has come eating and drinking, and you
say, 'Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and
sinners!'"
(Luke 7:33–34 ). In spite of this
accusation, Jesus was never gluttonous or
drunk, because He lived a totally sinless life
(1 Peter 2:22 ). Jesus Himself warned
against drunkenness because it prevents
one from being ready for His return (Luke
21:34–36 ; see also Luke 12:45–47 ).

The Bible explicitly forbids drunkenness
(Ephesians 5:18 ; Romans 13:13 ; Galatians
5:21 ; 1 Peter 4:3 ; Luke 21:34 ; Proverbs
23:20 ), but drinking wine or alcohol is not
inherently a sin. The problem is the lack of
self-restraint and the consequences of
overindulgence. The same is true with
food. Both gluttony and drunkenness are
sins, according to the Bible (Proverbs 20:1 ;
23:2 ; 25:16 , 27; Ephesians 5:18 ). First
Corinthians 6:12 says, "'All things are lawful
for me,' but not all things are helpful. 'All
things are lawful for me,' but I will not be
dominated by anything."

"Then all the people of Israel again started bringing to the Temple storerooms their tithes of grain, wine, and olive oil".....Nehemiah 13:12

Maybe God also broke the law by allowing wine to brought in as part of their tithes!

Don't ever present your narrow interpretation of the bible as scriptural FACTS!

God made bananas, but not for it to go through fermentation for alcoholic consumption. Now instead of spending so much time trying to prove that alcohol is good, why not go down on your face before the Lord to find out whether or not your own heart is good or evil. Your thoughts are not God's thoughts.

Jesus created the best wine ever. He turned water into wine, not to fruit juice.

FACT: Every wine is alcoholic. Fermentation process is very key in alcohol production.

Jesus obviously drank alcohol.

What the Bible condemned is excess intake of alcohol.
1 Timothy 5:23
'Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses
Don’t drink only water. You ought to drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach because you are sick so often
'

@iyambz + woleomojesu + Missyajoke
Fruit juice is not a cleansing agent, it is alcohol that is a cleansing agent. Alcohol is used to clean scratches and mild wounds, also used to sterilise medical equipments like needles injections, surgical blades etc, and not fruit juice.

Apart from the stress relieving and relaxing nature, that alcohol, has on the body and mind or when in higher doses its anaesthetising effects, it is its antiseptic properties that was the reason for why Paul advised Timothy to drink a little alcohol for getting relief of his stomach ailment that was brought on from drinking of bad water that was causing the frequent illness in Timothy

Aside drinking alcohol to help ease an upset stomach, drinking alcohol also aids digestion, as it stimulates the stomach's enzymes, that from there, helps with getting on to break down food taken in, for good and full absorption into the body.

To drink alcoholic drink is your prerogative. You have the right to drink alcoholic drink, especially if it is good for you and beneficial to you. You are allowed drink alcoholic drink so far you won't allow it to master you, gain control over your life or bring you under any negative power or influence.

Ephesians 5:18, states: 'and not to be drunk with wine, in which is debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit'

The word debauchery, up above, means, extreme and excessive consumption of wine. If you want to do extreme and excessive indulgence, then, be filled with extreme and excessive consumption of the Holy Spirit is whats advised to be the preference and not extreme and excessive consumption of alcohol.

iyambz, the will of God, is not against to drink. The Ephesians 5:18 KJV, 'And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;' you quoted in your original post, is not a commandment advocating that drinking alcohol is bad, but is talking in respect of drinking alcohol, beyond a normal limit, beyond what is needed, desired, appropriate or drinking too great to be what is reasonable or acceptable.

I sense a garb of religiosity and I see you didn't even bother to take the time to read through my post, else, you wouldn't be repeating what I already said in some of your responses. If only you knew that your body actually produces alcohol from the food you eat smiley

Do whatever seems right to you, but don't but that cloak or load upon another whom Christ has made free. May the spirit of truth lead us in love.

iyambz:

@iyambz, please why did God also consider wine to be a titheable commodity per the old covenant?

Deuteronomy 14 v 22-26 KJV

23 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.

24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:

25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:

26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household

Lol, another funny double standard I see at play here...

Where the Bible speaks against BEING DRUNK with WINE... wine in that context is alcohol...

But where Jesus turned water to WINE... wine there is “non-alcoholic”

Religious zealots will never cease to amaze me with the way they reason cheesy cheesy

I'll give you an answer because I'm not ashamed of my knowledge of the Scriptures.

(Deut 14:21-29 kjv)"Strong drink allowed once a year in one city"

Vs 26: In spite of this "license" for drinking once a year, look at what happens to a priest when he drinks either "wine" or "strong drink" (Lev 10:9 kjv). That means that most Catholic and Anglican priests deserve capital punishment if they are trying to imitate the Biblical priesthood. It also means that the Christian who pretends that he himself is not a "priest," when (1 Pet 2:9 kjv) says he is, is simply looking for an alibi to get "on the bottle." "Drink offerings" are poured out (Num 28:7 kjv). They are not drunk by a "priest" (Ezek. 44:21 kjv), unless he is a Catholic or an Anglican "priest."

Leviticus 10:8-9
'8Then the LORD said to Aaron,
9“You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink when you enter the Tent of Meeting, or else you will die;
this is a permanent statute for the generations to come
'

Numbers 6:1-4
'1And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord:
3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink,
neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk
'.

To start with, Leviticus 10:8-9 is talking to Aaron and his sons, not you or any other believer. Also, aside from Aaron and his sons, the other one group of people told not to drink alcohol are the Nazarites.

Now notice in Numbers 6:3 above, how the distinction is made between wine, strong drink aka alcohol and fruit juices. Also you have the mention of Even fruit juice aside from wine and alcohol, the Nazarites aren't allowed to drink.

You see that 'vinegar of wine', in Numbers 6:3, is what was given to Jesus while hung on the cross dying in Matthew 27:34

I have informed you already above or on the other thread you opened same on the matter of being against drinking alcohol that alcohol is taken during communion, and that Paul during the communion, is not against drinking but is against people over drinking and abuse drinking alcohol.

Just for the record, the last time I drank alcohol, was at least up to five years ago. No, I am not a teetotal, its just that I hadn't the need or want to drink alcohol, so forget all that your saying that, I am putting up defence because I drink or want to drink alcohol

Please can you help us explain Ecclesiastes 9 v 7? Or should that be blotted from the scriptures? Or does it mention wine can only be taken once in a year, hmmm?

Ecclesiastes 9 v 7
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

How about Psalms 104 v 14-15?
14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
