After selling to fund 2021 budget. By the time we get to 2022 and there is no money in the federal acct to fund(2022), maybe, the federal govt will then have to sell the country to fund their pocket. Old Thieves with no shame.

The same thing they used against GEJ(2015) and Atiku(2019) is now what they are planning to do
Nigerians should learn.

whether the person stole or not any body who is willing and ready to purchase the refinery and make it work should be giving the opportunity to do so that the benefit will get down to the people in the long run.

methink it is time to force them to re invest their wealth in nigeria
like they did to PHCN and now it's working very well right??

International Conference Centre Abuja, National Theatre Lagos, refineries in Kaduna, PH and Warri that waste TAM money every year, Nigeria Film Corporation that existed for ages and achieved nothing, etc. etc. should be sold to generate money rather remain cost centres. If not for Igbo traders Trade Fair Complex Lagos wouldn't be 60% utilized though 40% is still wasting away.

Now, the problem is not selling but who are the BUYERS. Don't sell to Indians for they will sell assets and take money home. Don't sell to political party members for they will not add any value. Sell to local or foreign firms who are already in business or known and proven entrepreneurs with clear utilization and development plans.

But this is Nigeria. The last time we sold DISCOs, it was shared among politicians without any improvement in light.
It wasn’t! And even if it was, that’s NOT the problem with electricity supply.

A big problem in Nigeria is that we constantly MISDIAGNOSE our problems (or simply fail to learn the CORRECT lessons therefrom) and are therefore invariably condemned to repeating pretty much of same infinitum. For starters, the federal government stills holds 40 per of all of the DISCOs and therefore holds commensurate board positions in each of them. Accordingly, the government still wields influence over the operations of these DISCOs. If the government truly seeks improvement from DISCOs, they should allow them to charge cost-reflective tariffs that will enable to generate the sorts of balance sheets to attract enough equity and/or debt capital to invest in renovating, upgrading and generally improving the (60- 50-, 40-year old) mostly-decrepit distribution facilities that they inherited. A situation where electricity is produced at an average of N60/KWH and sold for an average N40/KWH is untenable, and no prudent banker/financier are ever going to deem these DISCOs as bankable!

Meanwhile, how can a nation that does not respect the rule of law, where the government often does not respect contracts, reneges on commercial agreements, and harasses some of its biggest investors, expect to attract reputable investors. Frankly, if there is any silver lining in the Swamp of Corruption that is Nigeria it is that there are apparently “politicians” DUMB enough to still invest (aka put their stolen funds) in Nigeria rather than simply salting their loot away abroad.

Why should they sell it when they have failed to make it work. People are feeding fat on the nation resources and crumbling the economy through lack of management and sabotage of the nation's wealth through looting.
You think privatization will drive the economy to a new look? cheesy cheesy

You're wasting your time since you can't make things work for yourself. You can't manage the economy, can't grow it and sustain it and you are claiming to be an independent country.
Ghana has ecg with full self sufficiency in electricity supply but you seat somewhere in Nigeria hoping for miracle when it is Cristal clear there is a parasite in the host. grin

Nigeria is so unproductive that we depended on imported goods, oil at some point and now, selling of national assets. Although it is a good move towards capitalism but a one based on shortsightedness, what if the fund generated from these sales are looted as usual, what will the government sell to fund the 2022 budget? I think the country needs to close downall forms of importation, reduce administrative costs, and work towards regional development system. Buhari has been a disaster to Nigeria
Imagine China or UK selling its national asset because of corruption that has made it stall.

Why should the FG be engaged or involved itself in a deal that's not in the best interest of the country? That's the problem that point towards the privatization of nepa which has yield no results in recent times.
The FG should have the interest of its citizens at heart because it is a sabotage, treason and destruction.

But wondering what will be used for 2022 budget and beyond if the proceeds of these sales will be just for 2021 budget.

I can never understand the uproar of many Nigerians against privatization/concessions...smh undecided

The number of Nigerian government owned companies and businesses that has been horribly run or simply ran aground is legion - the 4 refineries, the 2 petrochemical plants at Warri and Eleme, NAFCON, NITEL, NICON, Ajaokuta Steel, Aladja Steel, Nigeria Airways, Nigeria Coal Corporation, Nigeria Paper Mills, Nigerian Newsprint Manufacturing Company, Nigeria Pulp and Paper Mills, Nigeria Machine Tools Oshogbo, the 3 steel rolling Mills in Jos, Katsina and Oshogbo, Nigeria Hotels, Durbar Hotels, Nigerian National Shipping Line, Nigerdock, Kaduna Superphosphate Fertilizer Company, ALSCON, Volkswagen of Nigeria, ANNAMCO, National Truck Manufacturing Co. (Fiat) Kano, Steyr Bauchi, Bacita Sugar Mills, Savannah Sugar Company, and so many others too numerous to list.

What do you mean by “interest of the citizens”?
The government to continue running NEPA for over 50 years since Independence without producing much electricity?

Privatization is NOT the problem (as I said, Nigerians often MISDIAGNOSE our problems), but rather that the government is not keeping to the agreements made with the investors in the privatized DISCOs to allow for cost-reflective tariffs. Even the roadside Akara seller knows that if she is FORCED to sell her Akara balls for less than the cost of beans, oil and its other ingredients, she will go out of business quickly!

Speaking of the “interest of its citizens”, here are just some (not all) of Nigerian government owned companies and businesses that has been horribly run or simply ran aground - the 4 refineries, the 2 petrochemical plants at Warri and Eleme, NAFCON, NITEL, NICON, Ajaokuta Steel, Aladja Steel, Nigeria Airways, Nigeria Coal Corporation, Nigeria Paper Mills, Nigerian Newsprint Manufacturing Company, Nigeria Pulp and Paper Mills, Nigeria Machine Tools Oshogbo, the 3 steel rolling Mills in Jos, Katsina and Oshogbo, Nigeria Hotels, Durbar Hotels, Nigerian National Shipping Line, Nigerdock, Kaduna Superphosphate Fertilizer Company, ALSCON, Volkswagen of Nigeria, ANNAMCO, National Truck Manufacturing Co. The only citizens whose “interests” are being served are incompetent and corrupt politicians, and sundry other rent-seekers. SMH

I would expect that all these procedures would have taken place, or are going to take place before taking bids from investors. Public assets are not expected to be sold like bags of tomatoes.
Of course that is the rational expectation, but alas, we all know the depth of incompetence of this current government.
