REPUBLIC OF BENIN IS NOT ASPIRING TO BE PART OF NIGERIA

The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to misleading reports in the media that the Republic of Benin is aspiring to be the 37 State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama in the presence of his counterpart from the Republic of Benin granted a Press Interview after a very fruitful meeting between Ministerial delegations from both countries and stated therein "... the President of Benin Republic said he would like the relations between the two countries to be so close as if Benin was the 37th State of Nigeria".

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has no territorial ambition and has never aspired to make Benin or any country as part of Nigeria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs was therefore quoted out of context and the general public should kindly disregard the wrong information.

I'm so happy for them. I see that Joining themselves with Nigeria to become the 37th state would have spelt doom for them, cos we that are here have been together since 1910 till date yet we don't have love for each other, is it a French speaking minority that we will even give attention to? They would have been frustrated back to their country cos orindary federal government appointment them for nor see. This I have seen.

Because Niger is Buhari's ancestral home. His granddad hailed from Niger. Now we know why buhari is treating Nigeria this way. Should anything happen in Nigeria, he would relocate to his home in Niger by merely crossing the border. All of them know what they're doing . You can imagine them trying to construct a railway to Niger when lots of regions in Nigeria have no such infrastructure They're also channeling oil pipelines to Niger. They want to build a refinery along Nigeria and Nigerien border. Afterall, maina was traced to Niger where he was apprehended. The onus is on our leaders down south to wake up and strategise. These people would flee to their country should any bad thing happen here, God forbid. Those who have been to Niger Republic lately narrated how the fulani dominated country was witnessing massive developments in buildings and infrastructure by northern Nigerians
