… Cautions Motorists Against Offering Bribes To Traffic Officers

The General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authourity (LASTMA), Mr. Olajide Oduyoye, has disclosed that the Agency will investigate an alleged extortion claim contained in a viral post on Facebook by a Lagos motorist accusing some LASTMA officials of extorting N11,300 from him at one of the zonal commands in Agege.

Oduyoye gave an assurance that the photographic evidence provided by the complainant will be scrutinised and any officer found culpable would be made to face the consequences under the extant rule of the State Civil Service as specified.

While encouraging members of the public to always come forward with their complaints with evidence against corrupt officials, the General Manager, however, pointed out that there are many LASTMA officers that are dedicated, conscientious and professional in carrying out their official functions as observed during the LASTMA CONNECT programme aired on Traffic Radio with many Lagosians acknowledging the good work of traffic-control personnel.

He also advised all road users in Lagos to obey the traffic regulations so as not to run foul of the Law, stressing that some violators are fond of offering traffic personnel bribes to avoid prosecution without realising that the law frowns on both the giver and the taker.

“In some states of Nigeria today, where we have highly intelligent people, highly educated people, very enterprising people, like Abia, they are governed by drunkards. The governor of Abia is a champagne drinking man"

Abia people are impoverished more than ever before. Abia people are unfortunate.” - Senator Smart Adeyemi

Lies or Damage control strategy.
If he is true to type by now LASMA would have had direct contact with the handle that accused them in other to get the explanatory account of why he accused them of the said amount and they would be treating the case legally.

According to Chief Tinubu, his business partners demanded that he should use his political might in Lagos State to coerce the Lagos State Government to impose Gbolahan Lawal on the princes, princesses and people of Iru kingdom despite the nomination of Prince Hakeem Ajasa by the Iru kingdom.”

He said rather than recognise the choice of the ruling family, the Lagos State Government decided to choose Lawal which he said was against the principle of natural justice.Madness. Yoruba madness affected the lastma. Fulanis madness affected the catle breeders, Igbo's madness affected Ipob, Buharis madness affected his followers. Nigerian madness will disintegrate the fake one Nigeria

When fines or other punishments for offences are not reasonable, security agents become rogues because people would rather bribe than to pay exorbitant fines or suffer more for petty offences.
Fine for any traffic offence should not be more than 10% of national minimum wage or days/weeks of community services.

Honestly sometimes I don't feel it's fair one getting evidence of corruption against officers and men of some of these agencies.
Since some police officers and other bribe taking officers of other agencies like lastma, FRSC etc, have been exposed and sanctioned, has it reduced even a tiny bit the bribe taking? No.
As long as the Nigerian society is structured in such a way that illegitimate wealth and sources of wealth are not scrutinized and punished, bribery and corruption would still remain in Nigeria as long as it exists as a country.
A civil servant with a known official salary & pay packet builds a mansion or buys series of lands within a few years of working should in a sane society call for suspicion and investigation.
But here he/she is glorified and exalted for having "made it".
Making it through bribery or diversion of goverment or individuals revenue.
Let's just accept corruption is now an official way of doing business in Nigeria like the Americans have come to accept tipping as legitimate form of revenue.
Afterall if Buhari they all lied to us had integrity and wasn't corrupt can be as corrupt as the worst of Nigerian politicians and equally embraces and surrounds himself with the most corrupt set of politicians Nigeria has ever had,who is the ordinary officer to do any better?
