What is Occupational Health?

Occupational health refers to the identification and control of the risks arising from physical, chemical, and other workplace hazards in order to establish and maintain a safe and healthy working environment. These hazards may include chemical agents and solvents, heavy metals such as lead and mercury, physical agents such as loud noise or vibration, and physical hazards such as electricity or dangerous machinery. Occupational health is a part of Health Safety and Evironment Programs that focuses on the physical and mental wellbeing of employees in the workplace.

The aim of occupational health is to prevent work-related illness and injury by:

• encouraging safe working practices;
• ergonomics (studying how you work and how you could work better);
• monitoring the health of the workforce;
• supporting the management of sickness absence.

Proper attention to workers' health and safety has extensive benefits:
• healthy workers are productive and raise healthy families; thus healthy workers are a key strategy.
• safe workplaces contribute to sustainable development, which is the key to poverty reduction;

In fact, this is an important topic, not all friends from my environment know about it.

There are so many injuries, most of them are on the construction sites...

Injuries might take place not only on a construction site but at any workplace. Unfortunately, not everyone realizes that the employer is responsible for providing a safe environment for his employees. My uncle works at a logistics company. Once he fell and hit his head of railway road. He was seriously injured, but he got lucky. His colleagues called an ambulance for him, and later his boss sent him to a local occupational health clinic. Everything is okay now with him, and he feels fine. He got really lucky that his boss sent him to that clinic because there is no trace of the injury.
