Backward Integration In Sugar, Cement And Petroleum: Who Are The Beneficiaries? by kirajustice: 10:06pm On Feb 28, 2021 |
TAYO IRANTIOLA, Lagos First came Sugar... then Cement… now, petroleum refining. The cycle of seeking protectionist Backward Integration Policies to protect a few players in limited industries keeps repeating itself. Only in this case, what should strengthen our collective economy is protecting a few big businesses and shutting out others, therefore holding Nigerians to ransom.https://politicsnigeria.com/backward-integration-in-sugar-cement-and-now-petroleum-who-are-the-real-beneficiaries/ Tayo Irantiola writes from Lagos Nigeria... 57 Likes 8 Shares

Only a matured mind will take his/her time to read up this beautiful article and see the danger that lies ahead for Nigerians. I drove down to a nearby refilling station to buy petrol this evening and i was shocked it’s now sold for 175-190/liter (excluding the already tampered fuel pump). It shall never be well with Buhari, his thieves and all those who voted this evil government in power. As for those of you still supporting this government because of stipends y’all benefits from them, Doomsday will visit you all! 116 Likes 8 Shares |

Every government policy like Backward Intergration Programme (BIP) is supposed to have a document stating its SMART objectives, implementation guidelines, periodic review of journey so far, etc. If the government agency or NASS committee that is supposed to oversee and regulate BIP implementation decides to be inactive, beneficiary firms won't meet with their commitments as expected. Here the executive and parliament are both to be blamed for their failings. 22 Likes 4 Shares |

It is so absurd that a local refining company that will not incur much transportation and landing costs and also utilize the low cost of labour and production in Nigeria , which ideally should lead to low operating expenses and cheaper end product is more concerned about having the licence to import to himself. This shows that the long term strategic plan does not involve any patriotism and giving back to the country that had given you everything but a scheme at profiteering as done with other products. 59 Likes 5 Shares |

You cannot improve the quality of lives of poor by killing the rich You do not promote local content by banning foreign content You do not encourage export by banning import 9 Likes |

And to think Dangote is already calling on the Governnent to restrict importation of fuel to only people with refining licence. The sad reality is that he will get it . And am so sure that he will buy crude in Naira and sell to Nigerians in dollars. He is very unscrupulous. I have always thought that Dangote has nothing to teach the youth when it comes to business. Any fool will succeed when they get the kind of waivers privileges, and patronage he gets from government. 39 Likes 6 Shares |

MansoryMX: We discernible minded people see the evil this crony capitalist truly are. Nigeria feel they're helping the economy, they've always been after their own interest. Funny enough, these same set of capitalist won't dare try this abroad, they know it's a business malpractice which is criminal and highly punishable. They can only get away with this nonsense here in Nigeria 18 Likes 3 Shares |
