20 years of giving total, conoil,Ap etc import permits what did they achieve with it outside reparation of forex outside Nigeria.....why didn't they take step to build small refinery after collecting 12 bn dollars as subsidy....they want Nigeria to remain import dependant and creating jobs in Europe while our people suffer.......they can start now and compet with Dangote in the refining space is not too late... 1 Like |

Godarz: Dangote first reduce prices before increment He’s smart I’ll give it to him... But his business approach is bullish and unhealthy... He controls 95% of the manufacturing and distribution chain... these small guys fight over 5%. They don’t stand a chance |
Re: Another Monopoly: Dangote's Troubling Petroleum Industry Bill Proposal by Nobody: 2:37pm On Mar 04, 2021 |
EkelediliBuhari: That's not quite true... The Nigerian cement industry has three major players dominating the market, with Dangote Cement Plc being the leader wielding 60.6% of the market share with a local installed capacity of 29.3 million MT, Lafarge Africa Plc having 21.8% share with a production capacity of 10.5million MT, and BUA Group accounts for 17.6% share and 8.0mtpa. SAUCE Dangote has the majority, but it isn't up to 95% 2 Likes |

Godarz: Well that’s on paper But going by paper he controls 65% of the market what do you expect?? Also note that he controls est. 90% of the retail market as he has a very large distribution network... retails prefer them because of accessibility Larfarge mostly contends in the corporate space as they focus on bulk sales... actually that have better quality hence construction giants prefer them... here they control up to est. 70% of the market |

Queenlovely:Yeas all these can be achieved even today, but who will carry them out.. Nigeria and it's system keeps getting worse by day. Is it the weak military we have now that will rise against there oppressors, or our weak youths that only care about hashtags... we still have a long way to go in getting rid of these power hungry monsters ma/sir. If not achieved sooner, there might not be a country called Nigeria in the future but rather new countries. |

There are 38 companies with refinery licenses and private refineries with licenses including the new refinery in Imo state so how is this a monopoly? Do you people even know the meaning of monopoly or it's just the usual case of hatred, bitterness, and bigotry? If you don't know the meaning of monopoly, why not just grab a dictionary or go to google to educate yourselves. This is what the man is trying to address, the FG gave refinery licenses to prospective refinery owners, but they did not build any refinery and many are not even interested in building any refinery, they just sit on the license to reap indirect benefits by gaming the system and make billions at your expense when in fact they are actually not in any kind of oil or refinery business, they just use the license they obtained from their cronies within the government to pose as oil industry players. What's your business in the oil and refinery business if all you have is a refinery license that the government granted you to build a refinery but refused to because you are not interested in any refinery, you just want to milk the license for your own personal gain at the expense of Nigerians. The man made a serious, sensible, and practical point, but this is the problem with many Nigerians, instead of standing up for their own interest, they fight against their own interest all because of hatred, tribalism, and bigotry. Sometimes I just wonder about the too many Nigerian youths with poor and low-quality thought processes and mental corruption through tribalism, ignorance, and bigotry. It's really sad. 2 Likes |

I've said it before and i'll say it again ; nobody with any sense should be celebrating Dangote refinery unless you have shares in his businesses (Which the political elite do). He is bad for business (monopolistic) and like all oligarchs, if unrestrained, suffocates competition, making it bad for consumers and government alike. There were ppl wow-ing and coo-ing about his refinery being a game-changer; for him and his sponsors and cronies, yes. For Nigerians, no. He is even attempting "State Capture" a la The Gupta's in South Africa. The govt has deliberately ceded the refinery environment to him and the Bua Group. I wonder why ? This is just the beginning of his manipulations. Someone above wrote of what Putin did to Russia's quarrelsome oligarchs. There's a video of him threatening them with jail or exile if they don't pay taxes and obey the law. Well, Putin was/is secret services so knows their files. Here, Malami was create an absurdity in law to allow Dangote continue to enjoy monopoly. |

tundess: Waltersmith Modular Refinery in Ohaji-Egbema, Imo State is 30% owned by the FG and the same FG gave this refinery in Imo state cheap oil to process and oil field to source oil from and from what Dangote is proposing, this refinery in Imo state stand to benefit from Dangote's proposal so where is the monopoly when the refinery in imo state and the new ones in Edo and Delta are set to benefit from the same Dangote's proposal? If you are going to argue against something at least make effort to research and understand the subject matter and the issue in question instead of running away with cheap sentiments and bandwagon emotions. While you are at it, explain to us why people with no interest or skin in the oil business should be allowed to participate in the oil business just to rip you off? What do you or Nigerians have to gain from oil racketeers that refused to build refineries with the refinery license government gate to them to build refineries importing and making money off refined oil products at the expense of Nigerians and the real refinery owners that invested their money to build refineries, to create jobs for you and Nigerians and generated IGR for their respective states? Why is it that the investors and the job creators are the bad guys while the crooks manipulating the system to line their pockets with nothing on the ground to benefit you, with no refinery or jobs for Nigerians are the good guys? Why is it so hard for some Nigerians to think about their own interests and well-being? |

trilacos: The fact that they pay you to peddle ignorant rubbish on the internet doesn't mean others are like you. You can do better as a human being. The fact that other entities in Nigeria from refineries in Edo to Delta and Imo states also stand to benefit from this proposal means it's not a monopoly. Instead of peddling words that you can not define or know anything about and disgracing yourself on the internet, seek basic education, read and understand current affairs. You are even yet to explain to us why crooks with no refineries and characters with refinery licenses that refused to invest, to build refineries and create jobs should be allowed to import oil and line their pockets at your expense. Fixey: See ignorance, proposing that license holders with refineries should be allowed to import oil mean he's being sold the industry even though there are many refineries in Nigeria just like Dangote. So, when Waltersmith Modular Refinery, Ohaji-Egbema, Imo State is allowed to import oil under Dangote's proposal, it means the industry is being sold to Waltersmith Modular Refinery in Imo state? You see how ignorant, mentally shallow, and corrupt many of you sound? You've turned over your brains to tribalism, hatred, bigotry, and self-induced frustration. |

Re: Another Monopoly: Dangote's Troubling Petroleum Industry Bill Proposal by plaindealer: 8:12pm On Mar 04, 2021 |
Fixey: Yes, in other countries and even in the US where we copied democracy from before their governments and policymakers draft industry policies, the industry players are consulted and their opinions and suggestions are always part of the deliberation process, it's called carrying along in Nigeria. On top of that, oil industry companies in other countries including the US where you copied democracy from have something called oil industry lobby group, no government policy sails through without their impute or interest considered. Why exactly do you think the oil industry in the US spent hundreds of millions of dollars every year to lobby government agencies and lawmakers in the US? Is it just to give them pocket money or to obtain favorable policies to protect their interest and the oil industry? This is why it's always hard to go back and forth with many of you on NL, you don't know anything beyond your typical no knowledge tribalism and bigotry sentiments. Let your brain do your bidding when it's time to think, read and understand what's being proposed instead of outsourcing your brain to tribalism, bigotry, and hatred. |

Queenlovely: lol... Wetin pesin no dey read on NL. So, to get rid of corruption, we need to emulate crooked and corrupt dictators, a murderer who openly kills and silences his own people with poison, a brutal dictator who just tried to kill a common government critic and even sent him to prison based on bogus charges. Putin poisoned and tried to kill Alexey Navalny, is Alexey Navalny an oligarch or a common government critic who was just trying to expose Putin as a crooked and corrupt dictator? So, what we need is a leader who won't hesitate to poison and kill Nigerians including critics out in the open and even loot and sit on Nigeria's oil wealth? This is the kind of leader we need? Who holds up a crooked, corrupt and killing machine character like Putin as a role model? Who? Basically, we need corrupt dictators and murderers to end corruption in Nigeria? This is the dumbest, the most ridiculous, and absurd rubbish on the internet today. OMG!!!! With characters like you and your warped mentality, Nigeria is in serious trouble. |

People attacking dangote must be very mad, I am an IBO . it makes no sense attacking a man who saw the loophole in the industry and decided to gain from it and u call it monopoly. How many years have we been crying and begging the federal government to build us functional refineries? They kept on making false promise. If we have enough and viable refineries private sector like dangote would not have thought about it . this will bring these oil thieves down to their knees. If you can't process it locally there is no need to have the license in the first place . they would rather lift crude from here ,refine it outside and leave out the components of crude oil and go for only fuel and still shortchange the government. Kudos Dangote please do the same in the steel industry 1 Like |
Re: Another Monopoly: Dangote's Troubling Petroleum Industry Bill Proposal by plaindealer: 9:24pm On Mar 04, 2021 |
Rockers4l: Sadly, they are attacking in favor of the oil thieves. Dangote and others invested their money, they built refineries and created hundreds of thousands of jobs, but the hate group prefers the oil thieves that did not build 1 single refinery, did not invest 1 kobo and did not create 1 job, they want the oil thieves that they did not benefit anything from to keep making money off their misery. Why must oil thieves without refineries or any jobs created be allowed to kee reaping you off? Why? Well, we know their usual problem, it's never about what's good for Nigeria, it's always hatred, bitterness, tribalism and bigotry. |
