Dapcity007:The key part is in bold. the woman chooses. Not someone choose for her We all have different religious inclination, And forcing everyone to live by one standard is wrong. What if Mormons, catholic, Sunni, become head of the nation and determine that everyone should live by the tenet of their religion or belief |

raumdeuter:$15 for companies over 1billion and $10 for everyone else looks like the best compromise in this political climate. States should look to implement something like this(based on the cost of living of course). |

edi287:He's a Populist fake Conservative, just trying to drag voters with left-wingers. When a conservative is not true to conservative values, they find common fiscal ground with socialists. After all populism includes elements of socialism. $15 is too high for a mimimum wage. Mcdonalds is a billion dollar company. I don't expect them to pay $15. $12 is very OK, and expensive Cities like California and New York can impose their own living wage. In a pandemic period where labour is highly dispensable, we should not make it overly difficult for companies to hire. I'm sure everyone saw non-farm payroll stats yesterday and employment stats today. $12 is enough. $15 will lead to accelerated outsourcing decisions, and leave only service economy jobs. Na with clap dem dey take enter dance. People act like companies are wealthy evil entities. Companies are owned by shareholders like.you and me. The price we pay for the stock (whether we actively invest or through our pensions) is reflective of a future expectation of profits. Should companies be burdened with unrealistic profit-eroding labour costs, then we the people who put our savings in these companies whether wittingly or unwittingly have also been sold an overinflated asset whose future earnings are now no longer what we thought they would be. |

edi287:I'm beginning to be bothered with this $15 minimum wage, which I have supported in the past so companies don't pay $0/hr as they might want to, but companies will just shift staff to China or Mexico to avoid it. What America needs is "buy America" like Ghandhi introduced in India, but Americans seem to prefer cheap wherever they can get it from, and don't seem to do collectivism unless it involves guns or qnonsense, which is why I like the proposal of his as stated below. Earlier this week, Hawley unveiled a separate minimum wage plan that would send quarterly refundable tax credits to workers earning less than $16.50 per hour, though only workers with valid Social Security numbers would be eligible. https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahhansen/2021/02/26/republican-sen-josh-hawley-proposes-legislation-requiring-15-minimum-wage-for-billion-dollar-companies/ They should get the quarterly refundable tax credits from taxing company itself to pay for it, and include companies who rely on imports too. And do one of those Kennedy propagandas "Ask what your country can do for you and buy American!" That should do it, but I know I'm just being naive and it's more compkex than that. This is as tricky as trying to pay a living wage in Nigeria in my opinion. Government can't afford to pay it and would be hypocrites trying to get the private sector to. But it should remain on the agenda all the same. |

Walsh said Trump’s insistence that he, not Biden, won the 2020 election, has been eagerly adopted by a Republican base that is more primed for conspiratorial thinking than ever. “When I ask people specifically about QAnon, it’s only a rare Trump supporter that can give me any specifics, but damn near all of them are just general conspiracists,” he added. “There’s just a huge general overlap in that most of the Republican Party base voters now are conspiracy believers… Because the base is evangelical, the base is now conspiratorial, and they are one and the same.” Another prominent Republican, ex-GOP Chairman Michael Steele, cautioned that it’s specifically white evangelicals who’ve largely been taken in by QAnon and other mass delusions, driven at least in part by Trump’s insistence that 2020 election results were not legitimate because Black voters in urban and suburban areas played a significant role in the outcome. The Independent: QAnon has merged with white Christian evangelicals, experts say — and the results could be lethal. https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/qanon-march-4-white-christian-evangelicals-b1812490.html |

edi287:You are unrealistic We Republicans work with feasibility not emotions It's a good attempt by howley for ONLY very big businesses as it will kill small businesses But you Democrats driven by emotions want it nationwide and don't consider that it will kill small businesses as they can't implement it for their workers Big businesses will find loopholes in tax codes and laws to maximize cashflow, at worst they will be bailed out if they fail But you Democrats think both big businesses and small businesses are alike, that they are all greedy capitalists exploiting their workers, small businesses won't cope with increase in minimum wage as they would fold or layoff workers to stay in business |

armyofone:I have a rational disagreement with her with regards to her attaching her father's name to her husband name , I find it very appalling as it signifies he is a low value man, personally I won't tolerate such in my relationship , but he chose her as his wife with such condition , good for him, that okonjo-iweala to me signifies she's a femcentric woman, asides her the other factors that she earned her position by gender and racial diversity, inclusivity ,quota policies and affirmative action for blacks and women, her doing that to her husband who allowed it is despicable to me |

Ibime:Best believe if AOC or Sanders came up with this idea - MAGATs would have gone bat crazy about how they want to America to a communist state. The hypocrisy of those guys is what gets me the most. I personally think states should be left to decide. But minimum wage can't remain stagnant while inflation keeps rising. There needs to be a balance. |
| Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by salford1: 1:07am On Mar 05, 2021 |
edi287:Some of us earning very high are still complaining of high cost of living. Wages are not rising as fast as inflation.I don't know how guys living on low minimum wage survive. Last time I earned that was when I was a student at uni in Manchester and I shared a flat with 3 other colleagues also working minimum wage jobs. We do combined buying of groceries too and that was how we were able to get by. |

salford1:Look, these MAGAts know policies like these are popular with their base when you go past the "anti establishment" and immigration issues. Trump knows this as well. Thats why he eventually became "open to it". It's the same as Biden's coronavirus plan. It's popular amongst their base but agenda must agend. |

| Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Ibime(m): 1:27am On Mar 05, 2021 |
salford1:It's not a matter of what companies can afford or not. What matters is the Return on Investment for Shareholders at the price they paid. This is what drives companies outlook on everything. If you Salford1 want to buy a taxi business for example, you will value that business on how many years profits it takes to pay off your purchase price. Let's say the industry standard expectation is to pay off in 7 years. If you buy a business that makes $10k profit per year, you will seek to pay $70k for the business. If due to new minimum wage, the profit drops from $10k to $5k, the next man who wants the buy the business from you will only pay you $35k for the Business as he also expects to pay off his investment in 7 years. Yes you can afford to pay your workers alright, but your equity value has halved. This is what drives companies outlook on everything - EPS and PE mainly. |

Ibime:You will see that those Socialists and Magats have a lot in common, Bernie and Trump are very similar in their populist's ideas around trade, Their talking points are very similar that is why some lifelong democrats found it easy to jump on the Trump bandwagon. They all feel shafted economically and want someone to pay for it, Unfortunately Trump talks a good game but he is not interested in backing it up People act like companies are wealthy evil entities. Companies are owned by shareholders like.you and me. The price we pay for the stock (whether we actively invest or through our pensions) is reflective of a future expectation of profits. Should companies be burdened with unrealistic profit-eroding labour costs, then we the people who put our savings in these companies whether wittingly or unwittingly have also been sold an overinflated asset whose future earnings are now no longer what we thought they would be.That is why I cannot get behind the idea of punishing the job creating companies. Last last they will ship these jobs abroad for a fraction of the cost, the owners will get richer and Americans will be without jobs |

salford1:I don't understand why reasonable people are falling for this Republican crap of $10 an hour minimum wage. I challenge any of these guys here residing in Nigeria to move over to US and make a decent living on $10 an hour salary. Do they know that they have to pay both Fed and State taxes not to talk of Union dues on that measly salary. As a single guy, they can't live a comfortable life earning that pittance in most Cities in America. What's so bad if a Quarter is added to the price of Double Cheeseburger or a slice of Pizza. The people that do not realize the happenings on the ground will just fall over the crap being churned out by the Republicans that will advocate Trillions of $$$ tax cuts for the Multi Billion $$$ Corporations and Billionaires but when it comes to assisting the struggling people, they will become a fiscal conservative then. To me $15 is not even fair for a minimum wage but it should be a starting point. I live in Chicagoland and a single guy or lady with no child can't survive on less than $36.000 a year unless if he or she wants to live in a crappy neighborhood with all kind of danger looming around. To get a Studio apartment in a decent neighborhood in Chicago and most of the cosmopolitan cities in the Fruited Plains will cost you close to $1K monthly if not more and that's excluding the utilities and other bills like phones charges, transportation, cable subscription, food, clothings or and so many other things. Tell me how far that $10 pittance will go. I wasn't going to come in on this discussion anymore but I see a lot of misinformation and junks being put out by people that are falling in line with the Republicon propaganda. I remember quite well when Newt Gingrich was the Republican Speaker of the House and Tom Delay was the Majority Leader swearing that the minimum wage will be raised over their dead bodies. Those are the real evil plans of these Republicons but their poor and welfare dependent supporters all over the Fruited Plains are so dumb that they keep supporting tax cuts for Billionaires and Multimillionaires while they are lining up at Social Security offices waiting for Food Stamps and Welfare dough to eat and pay for their lousy and dilapidated apartments and houses. I hope reasonable people see through this Republican scam. |
