Combating Heardsmen Crisis By Allowing The Public Carry Guns Is A Dangerous Move by MrBlock(op): 8:52am On Mar 07, 2021
I have continuously read in amusement how people are now increasing clamouring that the general public should be allowed to carry firearms as a self defense tool against the ongoing Fulani Heardsmen Crisis.

My friends, this is a bad move.

While there are merits to the fact that it would wade off opportunistic attacks from the Heardsmen, there are also strong demerits particularly in the aspect of misguided and unwarranted usage by civilians in themselves.

Nigeria is not just the country where gun laws can work so there would definitely be an almost non-existent gun control system. We would eventually end up creating worse that we tried to solve.

The video below buttresses my fears. Please watch.

I would rather we go for restructuring or we break up.

Yeah but then when everyone around you has guns, there is a higher threat to life. It would be instrumental in the short-term against the Heardsmen/bandits but in the long run, people can be jacked on a steady for just peanuts. Robberies, Murders, Manslaughter would increase, nowhere would be safe.

Even with gun control laws, US of A is still having it hot from misuse of forearms now imagine where there is no gun control which would surely be the case in Nigeria.

Is that not what we clamour for?

or u think anybody is happy sleeping in the bushes all in the name of ESN and other serious outfits trying to scare off the terrorist fulani 'herdsmen'? You think a young guy wont prefer to have it soft with his girlfriend at relaxation spots, rather than roaming dangerous forests in pursuit of the killers?

Bros.. you are on your own..even without government approval..lots of people have gotten and are getting themselves armed these days...cos the only language the fulani man understands is fire and nothing more....who would sit down and watch his house burnt down and his wife and daughters raped, sons slaughtered waiting for one useless government?

All these your wishes is not happening, who will do it...most changes happen as a result of armed struggle, even Mandela's ANC, no one will give you anything. You true freedom is when you have the right and means to preserve your life, or you want an ignorant fool to take your lifefrom you as he pleases?

You sound like a kid...see America, they have gun rights, land of the free cos of the brave...are they not okay, what we need is strong laws and bringing back death penalty, then people will use the guns for protection, not attacking.

How has Nigeria done so far with regards to enacting and enforcing laws? Nothing works in Nigeria. Allowing guns and hoping for it's control by laws is wishful thinking. Laws don't work in Nigeria.

What next after guns are distributed and the Fulani manace has been eradicated? Have you thought of the aftermath effect on the society? Please watch the video I uploaded. You would understand my point of view.

We are talking of an existential threat, preserve your life, first, self preservation is a natural and constitutional human right, every human reserves the right to use proportionate force, to neutralise an aggressor threatening your life, even animals know this. That is why we have the 'self defence' law, and 'no trespass' laws. I think legal gun ownership will stop the problem of incessant attacks, as regulated vigilantes will have good firepower, dig trenches, to deter and neutralise oportuinistic terrorists. The point here is preserve your life first. Terrorists do not care about your laws, we must enact laws that protect the citizenry, and give them the upper hand, it is better for the guns to be in the hands of legitimate citizens. Government sole responsibility is to work for the good of the people, government is in place, to defend the people, and it's policies must reflect this, and it's policies must be based on current realities, and the current reality is, Nigerians must have the upper hand, against the foreign invaders and jihadists, they will not stop, until confronted. Gun ownership will be via licensing, the police authority and the parliament, will work together, give criteria for ownership...ensure vetting, and know the source of livelihood before issuing license. We need to strenghten our police and judiciary institutions, have good data base...all these is not rocket science, Nigeria has more than enough money and human resources to do this, and it is easier and more feasible than restructuring, and breaking up, for now. Anyone caught with illegal unregistered fire arms will be dealt with, like a criminal. Enforce laws, make institutions strong, and above govt officials. Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Enact strong laws, govt sign death warrants for murder, terrorists encounter armed communities, get shot at..it will reduce innocent deaths, and reduce the number of bandits, kidnappers and other outlaws. Good solution, if you ask me

There is no aftermath..apart from fulanis..other local criminals are there and if they understand that the neighbourhood is armed they won't venture to come in...we need guns for personal protection that's it...simple..!!
