Be specific na

Local dishes cost about $10 while foreign dishes cost even more than that. Imagine eating that everyday coupled with the snacks you take at different times of the day.

its cheaper to cook if you are buying all your foodstuffs in bulk.
Bless you for this secret.
Bulk buying have saved lots of homes.

No matter how rich you are, bulk buy and learn how to preserve foodstuffs.
You will be shocked if you do the math one day.

Nope. It's no longer cheaper to cook.

Cooking now cost way too much due to the current inflation that before you can buy enough condiments to make a tasty meal, you'll have to spend tons of money.

We only pray God keeps providing more than enough for us to meet up because no matter what, I still prefer the food I cook myself. Most people out there are dirty and I don't trust the hygiene condition under which the foods are prepared.
It is cheaper when you buy foodstuffs in bulk.

Are you trying to say those who cook dont have what to do with their time. Why didnt you stop bathing since you know you dont have time for that. You know eating and bathing is very important to human. Ona go just dey reason anyhow.

What you call bathing is actually taking a shower. If you want to take a proper bath, it is a process that takes nothing less than an hour.
People like us employ people like you to cook for us since you have a lot of free time on your hands.

You're rich, and yet you braid your hair with roadside hairdressers.
Big salon hairdressers no sabi?
It's better and cheaper to braid in roadside salons.

For fixing weave-ins and wigs, especially a pixie cut style, washing, relaxing, treatment and trimming of my split ends, I'll rather go to a big salon.

way cheaper, I buy fried rice for 10pounds, totally an error and didn’t fill me. Same amount will get me chicken thigh for 1.50 ppounds for a kg, I have enough rice at home, diced vegetables is 2pounds. Not to forget the 15pounds Uber I took to go get the food and back

Finally someone like me,
I can beat my chest and say that in 3 yrs I've not eaten from food vendors except buying soup on 2 instances to eat with my baked eba at home.

I wake by 4:30am 30days in a month just to prepare home cooked meals before I go to work, and I don't regret it,
I see women buying food from mama put as irresponsible women.
No reasonable excuse at all except it'll be laziness.

I will say it depends on the quantity and quality of the food. There is this place I buy afang soup, they sell a small takeaway plate @ about N4500. With delivery is approx N5500. Now would I not cook a good pot of afang soup of about 1l with N4500 and eat it many times? That is assuming I have the basic ingredients sha.

For me, I also consider the energy and time involved- that is what makes it expensive to always cook at home. Sometimes I just order out to save myself stress abeg.

Anyway, I noticed na poor people chop outside pass o. Whenever I am braiding my hair in those roadsides hairdressers, I will watch the woman buy N100 rice for her kids.

We should also consider the fact that many Nigerians do not have bulk money to use and cook a single meal. Soup wey them no even get light/refrigerator to preserve.

I think it is healthier, but not always cheaper.
Pocohantas you're right to a large extent, is all about a balance

One bag of 25kg rice costs #12000 and it lasts me 6 months as a single person. I cook rice twice weekly.

To cook tomato stew costs me #2000

#2000 has refill lasts me 2 months.

CALCULATE
#12,000÷48 times = #250 per cooking which is about 5 plates. 1 plate = #50.

#2500 ÷ 8 plates of stew = #312 a plate. NB Meat alone is #1500.

#2000 ÷ 60days of usage = #33 per cooking. 1 plate should be about #6.

So 50+312+6= #368 a plate for my own cooking.

Average cost of a plate of rice outside = #500.
So OP home cooking is still cheaper and more satisfying no matter what.

Modified: My plate na big plate o. E fit be two plates outside. So be the judge.

Bulk cooking/shopping is good, but we know how expensive it is to do these things in bulk. Do you know 5l of Gino vegetable oil is about 5k now? Check cost of other things. What is the minimum wage again? Then we add electricity bills. When you cook and buy things in bulk, your next challenge is preserving them. You would have to be running generator to keep the freezer powered. It is not a straight line in Nigeria o. The variables that would want to kill your career plenty. grin

I am not into chicken, more of a turkey person.
I lived in abj. I love turkey too. The only chicken i can eat is live bird or obasanjo .Was still in Nigeria when Buhari became president. Thatyr tomatoes rose to 48k, I bought big basket for 800hundred when it's tomato season. Added pepper, garlic, ginger and onions, then blend. When people were screaming, I was giving out cos I bought 2 basket and was preparing to travel. I go to mararaba and buy my yam and goat meat, village market in madalla for soup things meanwhile, I know where my house is and the type of people who visits the market there.
You see, u can, if you want to.
When you start, it become part of you.
Saves tonnes of cash, stress and time.
It's something I grew up with, that's why I do that effortlessly anywhere I am.
As long as you have electricity for like 7 hours a day in naija. You are covered.

I can’t ever remember saying I am rich, maybe you can point me to where I said such. That said, any woman with a vagina knows roadside or small hairdressers BRAID hair BETTER than big salons. Some big salons do not even braid hair because it is time consuming. All they do is fixing, manicure, pedicure and the likes. When they braid, it is overpriced and I have things to do with my money, not pay 25k to braid hair that I will definitely loosen in 2 weeks.

That said, if you have money to giveaway, abeg consider me. Ese Sir.

Their cost are negligible in a plate of stew but it was put into consideration in the #2500 for the stew.

I go to oyinbgo sometimes to buy in bulk but most times after comparing to the retail price, the difference is not much plus the fare you spend to and fro the market. Same same.

I loved your analysis. I am trying to create a personal financial budget and financial policy for the Federal Republic of Yongg. You covered the simpler parts of the cost but there's more.

Please I would like to see the type of numbers you would append to
1. the transport cost to get these...(it's easier if you go once and for all, but if you keep a personal log of expense per day, once can extract cost from there). Public transport, or private or delivery the cost is there, lols

2. the energy cost. Gas(cost of refill per period) or kerosine or Electric(extract from EDC/ power bills)

3. the elusive cost of spices. this one is special area because of the highly heterogeneous nature of the use, refill or buying these. it better you assume a figure of proportional weight (that would be highly subjective as this would differ per person). Like think onions, salt, pepper, nutmeg, curry, thyme, black pepper, crayfish, prawns, apple cinder vinegar, carrots, cucumber, lettuce.

Even water might need to be factored in

4. preservation would need to be factored in where it differs from energy. But if one utilizes only electricity for both, it makes the calculation simpler...

By cost alone, cooking is way cheaper. But one need to factor in the stress of cooking, washing pots, plates and other things. And also the time consumed in cooking and washing.

I don't see cooking what I eat as stress but then, different strokes for different folks.

Lol
1. It wouldn't cost me up to #500 fuel in the car I can even walk to the market.

2. The gas was there but you probably didn't see it.

3. The spices was factored in the cost of stew which you did overlook again. I can't put a price on water because I don't know how much the landlord put on it but outside my compound people fetch water for free.

4. Preservation is not part of cooking cost also, not everyone eats preserved food.

Also if I had reduced the number of meat I eat and size of food to what is obtainable in restaurants, it would be way cheaper than #368

Ciao
