In fresh multiple attacks, insurgents have targeted counter-insurgency troops and local allied forces in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

On Wednesday, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) said it attacked troops with mortars and improvised explosive devices in Malam Fatori, one of the furthest Nigerian towns.

HumAngle learned that a White MI- 8/17, which appeared in ISWAP propaganda of the attack, was likely the same aircraft used by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) with a foreign crew.

Malam Fatori is the headquarters of Abadam, one of the high-risk security hotspots in the Northeast.

Troops manning the base in the strategic border town endure persistent attacks because of its proximity to ISWAP.

At least 15 soldiers were killed alongside four Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members recently.

CJTF is a volunteer force supporting the Nigerian Security forces campaign against ISWAP and it’s parent faction Boko Haram.

According to PRNigeria, the troops and CJTF were heading to Kukawa town from Kauwa, both in Kukawa local government area.

HumAngle understands that the military has a presence in Cross Kauwa, which is about 10 kilometres from Kukawa.

Although the exact date of the attack remains unclear, multiple reports suggest they took place on Friday, March 12.

In Aug. 2020, ISWAP took hundreds of people hostage from Kukawa, following skirmishes with Nigerian troops in the area.

On July 29 2020, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum flagged off the reopening of Monguno-Cross Kauwa-Kukawa Road.

The attack occurred after the resettlement of hundreds of displaced persons under military escort to the town, which lies close to the shores of Lake Chad

HumAngle has learned that on Friday, ISWAP ambushed troops along Benisheikh and Ngamdu, resulting in the death of three soldiers and eight ISWAP insurgents.

The Army Super Camp One is domiciled at Ngamdu in Kaga Local Government.

The insurgency, which has been ongoing for over a decade, has killed over 30,000 people and displaced more than three million
