Funny, well it doesn't work like that the fact that the laptop is not displaying doesn't mean the screen is bad, A bad ram, processor, corrupt bios or even RAM slot issue or cpu power supply ic fault can cause that.

He needs to troubleshoot before arriving at that.

first try to connect using the vga or hdmi cable to either a TV or monitor if it works then its the screen but if it doesn't work then it's probably the ram, cpu it could even be a bios problem

This is what he should do, get a broken screen that some part is still showing or get working screen and test to see if it is still the doing the same thing.

If problem persist he should check the mobo.

I have this hp compaq 6510b notebook that I'm managing and I think I've spoilt it.

What happened: the power adapter was faulty but I was managing it until it stopped working, I then did a stupid thing, I cut the power adapter input to laptop wire and joined it to another wire and plugged it directly to the laptop my assumption was that it would power it on.....but the shit blown nd I immediately removed the wire...the laptop has been packed in one corner for months and I'm a bit skeptical about the cost of repairing the laptop.
