The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has asked Nigerians to hold Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq responsible for the violence and bloodletting in Kwara State over his administration’s Hijab policy. The umbrella Christian body said this while reacting to the alleged vandalisation of churches and mission schools by hoodlums who were reportedly enforcing the policy in the State. In a statement on Wednesday, CAN’s General Secretary, Barr. Joseph Daramola called on the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the ongoing violence. Blaming the governor for the Hijab crisis, Daramola explained that it was his pronouncement on the Hijab controversy, reportedly made in violation of a court directive for the status quo to be maintained until the matter was resolved by the judiciary, that led to the trouble. He said, “The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) today calls on the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the ongoing violence over the hijab policy that has led to violence and bloodletting in Kwara State. “We learnt that the State government has ordered the reopening of the closed schools without resolving the crisis and consequently, churches and mission schools are being vandalised with impunity by the hoodlums banking on the state government’s support in the pretext of enforcing the policy. Some innocent Christians are being violently abused and attacked under the watch of the Governor who is playing ostrich. ‘The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, should be held responsible if the matter degenerates because it was his pronouncement on the issue of hijab-wearing in violation of the court directive on the matter to maintain status quo until the matter is finally resolved by the court that led to this trouble. “Wisdom is required by those in leadership to handle sensitive issues such as that of religion so as not to precipitate war. If any damage is done to any church or anyone is injured on this matter, the Governor of Kwara State will be held responsible. “It is disheartening and unfortunate that a government that was installed democratically will become insensitive to the plight and the yearning of the people as if the governor was voted into the office primarily to protect his own religion. This is unfair, ungodly and reprehensible. “There are public schools and schools that belong to some Islamic organisations where those who wanted to be wearing hijab can be attending without causing the ongoing needless crises rocking the state. “CAN once again call on Governor AbdulRazaq to give peace a chance in the State by ordering his hoodlums to stop attacking mission schools and churches in Kwara State before the situation degenerates into an unprecedented religious crisis. “We also call on the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to ask the Kwara State government to respect the rule of law in order to avoid a chaotic situation.” Source: https://newspremises.com.ng/hijab-can-blames-kwara-violence-bloodletting-on-gov-abdulrazaq/

Christianity spreads more in the face of persecution.
If is of man, it will fade away but of it's of God, it will stand forever. |

If the churches are using their money to run the schools, no one has the right to wear hijab to the schools, but, if the schools are being run with Kwara state's public funds, the church has no right whatsoever to stop Muslim children from wearing hijab. I AM DONE TALKING |

Sirjamo:God bless you. The problem here is that kwara state government don't fund and rebuild damage buildings in the schools. They have even spoiled the education standard of the schools by bringing teachers who are not capable, through religion and politics without considering the students. The same thing in their state tertiary institutions, recruit lectures that are capable they won't, because of religion. I am an aluminumus of C&S college so I know what am saying. |

Would the Muslims also allow Christian fellows in thier schools (if any) to hold a pray section every morning without been persecuted... this might escalate beyond what it is due to hasty decision of the government |

Sirjamo:you spewing gibberish! There are Muslim schools been funded by state government as well. Both the Muslim and Christian schools have equal right to state government grant. That doesn't mean the schools lose their religious grounds. How can a Muslim enrol into a Christian school and still want to bring in their religious indoctrination into the school ,when there are Muslim school they can do such unhindered. Why are Muslims like disturbing the peace of other religions while they keep theirs? |

Pierocash:There's nothing like religion identity in government schools, everyone pay tax to the government and they use the tax to run the schools. If the church wants to control what students wear, they must stop taking grants from public funds. |

Sirjamo:are Christian even allowed in their own schools, not to talk of going there with rosaries? This same Muslims go abroad and comply with every of the school's standard, but come back to Nigeria and try to impose their indoctrination on Christian environment. Tax doesn't make you lose your religious right and ground. They all pay tax and that is why the government provides grant for both schools. If you want to keep your religious ground,go to your own schools. Is that too much? The beers they destroy in the north ,don't they pay tax? |

Sirjamo:..and who says the church is in need of grants from the goyt before. Missionary schools have survive long before govt started given grants which underdeveloped the schools. C & S College is a Christian school, yet a mosque is built inside. How many Muslim schools can tolerate the sight of a church in their premises. |

Munamu:Bro the church renovate school buildings and ex-students, I will snap some of the newly renovated buildings on Friday, the name of those that build it is inscribed on it. I reapeat the only state government do to the schools is to bring teachers who are not good for teaching and pay their salaries. I was in the school premises today, I Mean C&S College Sabo-Ojke. The issues arises during Bukola Saraki regime and, he followed the schools founders decision. 'No Hijab in school in Christian owned schools' |

Sirjamo:Which useless grants are you evening ranting about? Mention any govt org. that is being managed efficiently in this country. Oh! you assume the schools willingly handed over control of the schools to govt? No! it was forcefully taken over. Mind you till tomorrow, the church mission will continue to fund those schools neglected by Govt from church coffers and donations from old student association. Christians don't say Boko is Haram rather it is Muslims that want to erode the church legacy with alien practice. |

Hundredfold4lif:Not just the church, they want to destroy everything. I don't know how we tend to complicate simple matters in this country.if you are a Moslem and out of the hundreds of schools around, you chose to go to a Christian School, you just simply have to abide by the regulations, the same applies to Christians attending Moslem schools. |
