The bridge is built over sea or in water by constructing piles as foundation.

The pile foundation in water is the most difficult task.

The piles are constructed from Reinforcement cement concrete up to hard rock,Then a pile cap of RCC are constructed.

Then a column or pier is further constructed on the pile cap .This cap on the pier bears the load of the bridge.

Meaning they are sunk to the water bed which is several feet deep for both repair and construction work to be done?

Piers are built around them and most of the water pumped and repairs carried out. Some may involve under water welding / casting.

They are built same way. A pier is either sunk or built at the spot, and work is done inside the pier. When finished, the pier is taken away and the structure is there.

Please can someone help explain how the bridge pillars settle deep into the ocean and how repair works can be done on the such joints/pillars....
