I have a beach home in Atlantic City which we've boarded up. Evacuation is still going on. The casinos will not be operating this weekend.
I tried to go buy cases of water and packs of candles but virtually all the Walmart Stores are sold out.  My garage can only take one car and i'm still trying to find a shelter for my other car. I was going to park it in our local hospital garage but it seems everybody had the same idea. I don't want a tree falling on my car oh!
The way they are announcing this hurricane is scaring the crap out of me.

Messi is no where as good as Ronaldo. he is lucky to be in Barcelona. Xavi is the hero at Barcelona. Without Xavi, Barcelona collapses.

hello peeps, what's it over dis issue, by now I suppose everyone should have been tired of d junke called phcn, I don't care who owes it what I want is constant power supply, I stay in a room and parlor apartment 1 fridge 1 tv no ac I pay 6000 + every month with insults from those goons who call themselves marketers, upon that I had to que on line to pay d bill yet for the past 4 days I ve not seen a blink of light. Now u want me to still keep up with them, Nigerians are already paying high tariff, all they can do for us is to decentralize the power sector so that we can have choice just as we do with telecom sector
Dont mind Jenifa and flip-flopper Ekt bear, they live in Obodo-oyinbo with no idea of what they are talking about. i really get mad when people in the diaspora act as if they actually feel the pain of us living in Nigeria. I dont care if the govt sells NEPA/PHCN to Pablo Escobar or the Supreme Team, I just want light. Thats all.

have you ever seen a naija woman playing hard to get for a rich or successful man?
besides if you are taking about the UK or US most of those women are single at 33 are that way for a reason. If you look at their black american and carribean counterparts you will notice that most are unmarried as well. only difference is that they are more likely to be baby mamas while nigerian women are less likely to be baby mamas.

just speaking from my own perspective as a female and some of the guys I meet.
I personally WILL NOT play hard to get for a financially stable, disciplined and responsible guy who looks like a marriage material. but such guys are so rare.
most of the guys out there are irresponsible and just looking for a ride. and i'll really rather be a professionally successful single at 33 than be a baby mama for a useless fool.

trust me, if u are professionally ok, with a good head on your shoulders, you will have absolutely no problem with most naija women.  just that such guys are rare nowadays.
does that answer your question?
That is true. I get enough chicks but they are all looking to settle down while me i just wan chop and clean mouth.

Jenifer, what do you do?

BusinessRe: CAN Plans Christian Banking After Swedish Model by premechaz: 6:17am On Aug 26, 2011
Dr Akingbola is the Madoff of Nigerian banking, a crook who brazenly diverted funds to his wife’s companies while emasculating all his top management executives. He hides behind the cloak of religiosity using his “Christian” carapace to fool members of the public. He has decimated an institution by refusing to hire competent managers and allowing parochial ethnic and religious considerations to influence key judgements. Even junior staffers of the bank are taught that the bank is built on Jesus and cannot be "pulled down" by detractors. This sort of shallow thinking encourages sloth and inefficiency. How can managers be effective when they are not held accountable for their actions?

http://saharareporters.com/perceptor-page/fall-erastus-akingbola
All these things are well known in Nigeria. Intercontinental is a christian institution. period.

That's a good point and my fear.
If we mess up for any reason we are doomed.

I'm pretty sure Russia also has large stakes with the UK as well. esp with the collapse of soviet union.
so Russia also would be wary of messing with UK.

In the case of Nigeria, I don't see any stake Brazil has with us.
besides, this won't be the first time we will invite foreign firms to take over our industries. things haven't been always successful in the past.

I think Nigeria should negotiate the deal so that even if Brazil wants to invest in it, we should have a large stake in it as well so that it is not 100% brazil owned.
The $100 Billion investment. You think they would like to see it go to waste? Are you trolling?

Demonstrate that he only hired Christians, lent money according to Christian principles, etc before you call it a Christian bank.
He has alluded to something like this in the past, on TV. But hey, Business week baby! grin

Anyway, Christianity is a fairly fragmented religion. Saying "Christian" bank wouldn't even mean much. Are you saying that as a Catholic he was biased in favor of Catholics? Or only hired other Jehovah's Witnesses?

Wtf does Christian bank even mean, when Christianity is fairly fragmented itself?
Now we are now shifting the goal post? cheesy I tell ya, Kobo has nothing on you.
BusinessRe: CAN Plans Christian Banking After Swedish Model by premechaz: 6:04am On Aug 26, 2011
We gathered that top banker confessed recently that most of the things he reads in the Bible help him to run the bank. Also, we gathered that doesn't joke with Redeemed Church activates. For instance, he goes to church on Saturdays for Sunday school review and ministers meeting. On Sundays, he leaves his home for church by 6:30am to start workers meeting. Thereafter, he attends kiddies Sunday school. After that, he goes back to school till 1pm. Then he comes back for evening service. He also travels across the world preaching and winning souls for Christ

Here is the man's profile from Business Week:
http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/people/person.asp?personId=26253126&ticker=INTERCON:NL

So by virtue of this man also being a pastor at his church, something part of his PRIVATE LIFE, then the company he happens to be MD of becomes a Christian bank?

Na wa o

Supposedly 70% or so of students are failing WAEC. . . I am starting to understand why
Funny. What else do you know about Akingbola. You get your information from Business Week. I get my information from knowing people working at Intercontinental, his radio station, and from people close to him.

Obviously, I am not the only one taking this position. If only you would sit back and try to understand things the Nigerian way. You look at everything from the US POV. And yes, without mincing words, Intercontinental is a Christian bank.   grin

Ok thanks, I get your point. You mean electricity is naturally "monopolistic". Yeah that's true.

The way liberalization can work as you said is in power generation. Let's start from there. Government can concentrate its efforts and funds in the transmission and distribution aspects. Alternatively, allow several regional players. Eg one company per state or per geopolitical region etc. The key is efficient regulation.
It is still the same as having one company doing it all. The US does it that way because each state runs her own affair. In Nigeria, the fed govt is in charge. So the states have no say on this. NEPA is owned by the feds.

Think before posting

It doesn't really matter what the people think. people will always think for their short term pockets.
Democracy is the govt of the people. You do what the people want, No?

but govt should be more concerned about national security rather than just some middle and upper class folks. govt main purpose is to protect national interest. that's what they are elected for.
How is this a matter of national interest? This is electricity generation, the old way. We are not talking of nuclear reactors here. Shell already controls the govt, or did you not read those Wikileak expose.  I see nothing wrong with bringing the Brazilians on board. two brains are better than one. The more people /overseas company controlling our confused leaders, the better fro us.
'

as you have seen from ppl's post, PHCN not worth up to 5 billion.
Who cares what ediots here have to say. Some of them have not been to Nigeria since they were exiled from birth. Most left after failing their JS3 exams in Lagos. I dont care about their opinion. The same mentality caused us to sell our GSM license for peanuts when we could have made some good killing. Now MTN, Etiasalat et all are reaping where they did not sow. And yes, if you have the intellect to do the cost analysis, you'd realize that NEPA is worth that much, at least it is worth $50 billion

would you also support privatization of water supply?
Absolutely, if it would lead to better supply of clean and portable water to many a Nigerian currently with no access to clean water.

to a foreign firm?
Yes. They are already here. If we can import our rice from Asia, spending $1 billion on rice importation in 2010, what is wrong with doing the something with water supply. The Zimbabweans in charge of milk production in Kwara are all white, what is wrong with foreigners making our life better?

and what happens when that country gets mad at us. we thirst to death?
We are not selling to Brazil. We are selling to a Brazilian firm/ Brazilians. This is strictly business and it has nothing to do with national security. the govt will not just hand off the power sector to them, the ministry of power will still perform some oversight functions

anyway this is my last comment on this issue with you. I think I have made my point clear.
You have said nothing so far. You are bereft of original ideas unfortunately.
BusinessRe: A Brazilian Company Offers To Buy PHCN For $100 Billion by premechaz: 5:06am On Aug 26, 2011
Jenifa_:
How do you guys trivialize these matters so?
Countries go to war with each other over stuff like this (ie US and Iraq conflict mostly has to do with the fact that Iraq refused to privatize it's oil industry)

how can you even compare apple to pchn?  huh
one is more strictly economical. the other is more political/ national interest.
the 100 billion price tag is that way for a reason. controlling a country's energy supply is much more than just the money. In fact, there shouldn't be a price tag on it if our govt is sensible at all.
What do you know about NEPA?

Do  you know how much the govt spends on it? Do you know how inefficient that piece of shyyt is? Do you know that how dilapidated the equipments are? Do you that people are left in darkness for years, just because their transformer broke down and the govt does not have money to repair/buy new ones. I bet ya, that the people in Nigeria, who are in perpetual darkness dont care if NEPA is being sold to Brazilians, Americans or drug dealers. All they want is light. And I dont think that is too much to ask for. If it will take a Brazilian to provide constant electricity, so be it.

NEPA is draining a lot of fund, you have no idea how much is spent on a yearly basis on NEPA. The  power  sector  is  characterized by high  energy losses  (about  30-35% from generation  to billings),  a  low  collection  rate  (in  the  range  of  75-80%), and  low  access  to  electricity by  the populace  (about  36%).  Inadequate  tariffs and  gross  inefficiencies  in  operations  over  the years have  led  to  inadequate internal  cash generation.  The  utility  is  heavily dependent  on  fuel  subsidies and  funding of  capital projects  by  the Government.  In  2000,  the Government
financial  support  to NEPA  amounted to  about  US$400  million,  or  13%  of  the total  FGN  capital budget.  NEPA's  unmet  debt  service obligations  through  2000 amount  to  about  N40.5  billion  (about  US$396  million  equivalent).

We cant continue like this. I say Viva la Brazillians

PS: In 2004 alone, we spent N54 billion on NEPA. This is not sustainable.
