If you dont do it, others will. As a parent, you are obligated to do whatever would give your child the edge, and if it involves bribing, so be it.

A stark economic contrast between the mainly Muslim north and the Christian and animist south is also fanning the flames.
WTF? What do they know about the South? Phock The Economist

Literacy rates in the north-east are two-thirds lower than in Lagos, the southern business hub. Less than 5% of women are able to read and write in some northern states. Income per head is 50% lower than in the Christian south. The lack of economic opportunities is driving some into the arms of radicals.
These guys couldnt have been more wrong with this point. So off base and very very very 'un-factual.: Very unfortunate.

One of the worst articles written by The Economist. They did not in anyway prove their premise. All they did is repeat unfounded rumors about the Boko-haram. The economist is more and more looking like a Nigerian news magazine, full of fallacies and unverifiable innuendos.

I wont be surprised if the article was written by a Nigerian.

Northern Nigeria
Sounding like the Middle East
Islamic extremists are a daily threat
Aug 27th 2011 | ABUJA | from the print edition

NIGERIA’S north is a giant dust bowl stricken by mass poverty and unemployment. But the worst blight of all may be the region’s Islamists, especially a group called Boko Haram. It is carrying out almost daily shootings and occasional bombings, trying to undermine the country’s president and increasingly worrying international investors.

Boko Haram, meaning “Western education is sinful”, originates in Maiduguri, capital of the north-eastern state of Borno. It rose to prominence after sectarian violence in 2009, in which more than 800 people were killed. The group says it is fighting for the wider application of sharia law in Nigeria and has claimed responsibility for hundreds of attacks in Borno, often aimed at police, churches and bars.

Over the past decade, Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim north has seen mounting religious conservatism, with 12 of the country’s 36 states introducing sharia law, often in the name of northern solidarity. Previous attempts to enforce sharia have sparked clashes between Muslims and Christians, killing thousands.

Boko Haram’s attacks (and unofficial reprisals by government forces) have persuaded many Maiduguri residents to flee the city. No confirmed numbers are available. But more than 150 residents have been killed already this year.

As it gains confidence, Boko Haram has begun to expand beyond its home base. It bombed buildings in the central city of Jos late last year and has since pushed farther south to the capital, Abuja, where a suicide bomb outside the police headquarters in June almost killed the chief of police and other senior officers.

Pervasive poverty, worsened by unchecked government corruption, is as much part of the problem as fervent religious belief. A stark economic contrast between the mainly Muslim north and the Christian and animist south is also fanning the flames. Literacy rates in the north-east are two-thirds lower than in Lagos, the southern business hub. Less than 5% of women are able to read and write in some northern states. Income per head is 50% lower than in the Christian south. The lack of economic opportunities is driving some into the arms of radicals.

Boko Haram’s ideology is not widely supported in Nigeria; Islam in west Africa is overwhelmingly moderate. Despite its fierce campaign of violence, the group has an undefined structure and no clear chain of command. It has built a cult-like following by playing on people’s frustrations. Many of its members are disillusioned youths, unemployed and living in poverty, according to security experts.

Nigeria’s heavy-handed military has not helped the situation. Its elite Joint Task Force is accused of using indiscriminate violence in retaliation to attacks. Amnesty International has criticised unlawful arrests, extra-judicial killings and unexplained disappearances, all of which generate even more support for Boko Haram.

There is a wider political dimension. Some observers believe Boko Haram has established links with disgruntled politicians, some of whom recently lost power. They apparently wish to destabilise the government. Meanwhile, the group is growing in sophistication. It co-ordinated bomb attacks in three towns in May.

The use of remotely detonated bombs and Nigeria’s first suicide bomb point to links with more established terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. Security analysts foresee a dangerous slide in which sub-Saharan Africa’s largest Muslim population turns ever more extremist.

Just because the forum is seemingly anonymous doesn’t mean that you should be running your mouth off at strangers! You don’t know me and I sure as hell don’t know you, let’s keep it that way!
From the way you write, coupled with the dilapidated state of the building you reside in, it is obvious you are un-educated, poor and most-likely live in the projects. I am just advising as a friend; if you get your lazy arse off that cheap couch of yours, and get yourself a good job, in 4-5 years, you'd be living the good life, like me, Kobojunkie, SEFAGO, Dk and other affluent & influential NL'ers.

However, there is a caveat, DONT DO DRUGS, THEY ARE BAD FOR YOU. That said, if you want to do drugs, there are rules you need to follow, the most important rule is try to never get high on your own supply.

Sincerely Yours,

I was teaching my students a topic in mathematics one day, number system to be specific, and i asked myself wot exactly is the usefulness of dis topic to the students in the real world most of wot the students know nowadays is not wot they were thought in the classroom.which is why most of these students seem to be bored in the class because they do no see the relevance of wot they are being taught.these keeps me wondering is coming to school a necessity or just a fulfilment of all righteousness.your opinions will be appreciated
You just exposed yourself as being stupiddd and not creative. Too bad you are allowed to teach in Nigeria. In a more sane country, you would not have been allowed to get near children, let alone teach or shape a mind. SMH.

The gift men get is the lady in question.
That was in the olden days when women were women, chaste and pious. In the days of our mothers, women were beautiful and worth every cent a man spent on them. Now, women of this generation are not so beautiful, internally and externally.

Present Nigerian women are ugly and don't get married until they are in their 30s, desperate and short of good eggs, mostly spending their time on NL looking for rich and married men to snag. I wouldn't want to spend my money on a Nigerian girl, of any tribe or creed. Most of them  are more like men, status post many abortions and, sometimes, have turned their uterus into a dud, making them physiologically men. Why would anyone want to shower money, affection and love on someone like that without receiving anything in return. Marrying a Nigerian woman, of nowadays, is like being in a same-sex relationship. The give and take has to be 50/50 because technically you have no idea what you are getting into, unlike in the olden days when the man was cocksure what he is buying or investing in.

So is the state of our women. And yes, I think our women should shower the men with gifts too. Its only fair
