EducationUNILAG: SPOKEN WORDS- Dean Of Student Affairs Drives Me Mad by PresaLounge(op): 11:28am On Feb 21, 2016
We walked into UNILAG
As we set out on life’s road.
With our Fathers and Mothers
Hoping to reap what they sowed.
But life has not been easy on us
And that is one thing I'm here to discuss

As I'm here talking to you all, I can affirm
Only few students were given hall of residence
With or without bed spaces
This i feel is due to DSA's negligence
Perhaps to them we don't exists
We are not human; we are beasts

I wonder how a friend of mine would have survived
If not squatted by a good Samaritan.
Is it a crime he chose to school in his fatherland
This is one question i still don't understand
He came all the way from Port Harcourt
Ask me? Isn't it time we sued the DSA to court

Truth! The DSA drives me mad; They drive me insane
I cannot hear well; They've damaged my tympanic membrane
Because I don't sleep well; I get home late at night
And have to wake up, even before the morning light
By eight, I've got to be ready for Mr Taiwo's lecture; Not a minute past
Else, he'll chase me outta class

Nay! I'll never leave a word unsaid, I'll tell how i feel
Transport have exhausted our cash; we can't afford a good meal
Yet! The lecturers aren't helping at all
They treat us as if we're from Cameroon
Chasing us out of the classroom
I ask? Do they think we were all born with a silver spoon

I'm saying this bold and clear without mincing words
The DSA are liars; They are load of tiny rods
Tell them! Tell The DSA they've driven me insane
They are ________; I'll say it over and over again
What do they stand for? I need them to explain
They aren't bothered at all about our very pain...

The cry of a frustrated student, we do really hope the Dean of Student Affairs would do something about this as they have done in the past, showing they are for the students

EducationUNiLAG Students Protest Dissatisfaction In Result. by PresaLounge(op): 8:23pm On Feb 10, 2016
UNILAG Medicine and Surgery student protest their dissatisfaction in the handling of their cross-over to College of Medicine by the school Authority.
According to a source, this is the message that started the commotion, that then led to today's protest, this message was passed round on 29 January, 2016:

Hello Akokites, there is a rumour that 58 out of 147 Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) students will be allowed to cross to LUTH against the usual 50% across the science division of physical, chemical and biological. Research has it that there have never been a time in history where Pre-MED students had to wait for this long before seeing the list of those that made it to LUTH. Report has it that the remaining student that wouldn't be part of the 58 will be sent home to write jamb all over even though jamb form closes in 3days and the list is still yet to be released. I was also told the Pre-MED students plan to meet by 10:00am today(29/01/2016) at amphi theatre and maybe go on a peaceful protest. ULSSA(Unilag Science Student Association), please come to our rescue in any way you can.
The school authority decided to change the grading system to a grade-point system.
Reason being that the crowd in that area of study(Medicine and surgery) was becoming 'unbearable', and the rate at which student fail while in College of Medicine, Unilag.

Today, 10 February, 2016 the student took to the 'street' and started a peaceful protest to the senate of the school, even though the VC didn't come out due to reasons best known to him, the Student Union Leader; Mr Mohammed Olaniyi addressed the aggrieved student, all to no avail.

The peaceful and quiet protest then turned rowdy as the student didn't feel satisfied with the response they got from the SUG leader.

PresaLounge spoke to a student, Miss Funmi about the incident as she is part of the affected student:

We were told about this development during our 2nd semester, towards the end of the year. But it is still unfair, I spent 3years at home waiting for this course, now I have it and UNILAG is moving me to another course despite having a grade point of 4.0 which would have normally taken me through if we used the old system, but they are asking for 4.5. I don't know what to do again, this is unfair.
Asking her if the time they were warned wasn't enough to figure out if they should have taken caution;
Most of us worked by faith and also found the idea strange,   They shouldn't have made that change immediately, while the 14/15 set were in session. UNILAG started change of course for us even before they released some results.
Told us to change immediately if we aren't sure of our strength and there was a deadline, all this happened while in session!
Our 2nd semester at that! Only a  few of us changed
The rest of us chose to work harder. Results were coming out after exams
But Unilag didn't release our broadsheet!
The change of course form closed just a day before the broadsheet was out
We also spoke to another Student now, Mr Lekan, Department of Physiotherapy, to shed more light on the matter,

This is injustice, we student of prospective student of college of medicine wouldn't take this.

Asked to speak more;
Those of us who didn't meet the cut off per department, didn't cross. And we can't change course anymore. They can't move us to any lower course at all also, this is wrong in all ways.
Some of my colleagues were even given zero.
Some Missing script! How!
We are lost!
Its too late retake jamb now, the form has closed.
The least we are begging for is change of course.
How will u release change of course form before we write the exam?
We beg all Nigerians to use the social media to effect this issue to our favour, we can't waste 3years for nothing.
Presalounge tried speaking with the Student Union Leader, he said everything is under control. That the aggrieved student would be heard.

EducationWhen A Lecturer Threatens To Fail students by PresaLounge(op):
"Information reaching Us(PresaLounge), that a particular lecturer in Unilag, [name, department, faculty withheld] who is known for his temper and threats lectured a department today."

According to the source:

"The lecturer came into a supposed lecture of 2hrs at 45mins to the end of the class, and started lecturing immediately.

All was well until about 15mins into the lecture, hell broke loose and the said lecturer got angry with a student, and
walked the student out of the class- 'the student was laughing carelessly'.

Immediately the scene took place the lecturer started placing 'indirect curse' on the student and anyone who threatens to disrupt his class activity.

The class went on and then student tried ask questions about what they found strange in the topic, but they were all referred to their textbooks, which
isn't bad, but he responded angrily and then asked for the name
of the department, and said "it takes nothing to fail the whole
class, since they all believed that they knew more than him,
while rounding up, he asked for the name of the department
and left the class angrily.

Bothering the mind of the student now is, would they be failed for an offence they do not know about? Would they be failed because they have an hot-tempered as a lecturer, after the class, they all gathered to discuss their fate.

We hope the student won't turn violent like the student of Ambrose alli university that burnt down departmental buildings down because of mass failure.

SportsOPINION POLL: Should He Stay Or Leave??? by PresaLounge(op): 8:13am On Jan 14, 2016
Do you want the "tactical" and "philosophical" manager of Manchester United, Louis Van Gaal, kicked out or allowed to complete his tenure? angry

United fans, do you want a chance for another David Moyes era or would you rather continue with the boring games and results? undecided

As for the "haters" in the house, enjoying united's present misery or missing the challenge they usually pose as a worthy opponent? grin

Pen down what you think, your opinion really counts. cool cool
