The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will no longer recognise the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, citing ongoing court proceedings and the need to comply with judicial directives. In a statement issued on April 1, 2026, INEC said its decision followed the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026 involving Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe. The Commission said it had received conflicting communications from the two factions laying claim to the party’s leadership. While one side urged it not to recognise Gombe due to a pending suit, the other demanded enforcement of the appellate court’s ruling, including the withdrawal of recognition for Mark and his executive. INEC noted that the Court of Appeal, in its March 12, 2026 judgment, dismissed an interlocutory appeal filed by Mark and directed all parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the determination of the substantive suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja. Acting on the ruling, the Commission said it would withdraw recognition of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Mark and remove its members’ names from the Commission’s official portal. INEC further stated that it would refrain from recognising or dealing with any faction within the party and would not monitor or acknowledge any meetings, congresses, or conventions organised by either group pending the court’s final determination. The Commission also reiterated that it declined requests to install Gombe as acting national chairman, maintaining that doing so would violate the court’s directive to preserve the pre-dispute situation. The leadership crisis in the ADC arose following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Okey Nwosu and the emergence of a new executive led by Mark, a development challenged by Gombe, who insists he should assume leadership in line with the party’s constitution. INEC reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality and adherence to the rule of law, urging political stakeholders to avoid actions that could undermine the judicial process or affect preparations for the 2027 general elections.

A moment of apparent tension among Nollywood stars has stirred reactions online after Funke Akindele was seen allegedly snubbing her colleague, Toyin Abraham, at a movie premiere hosted by Iyabo Ojo. The incident occurred during the premiere event on Sunday, where several top figures in the Nigerian film industry gathered. In a now-viral video circulating on social media, Funke was seated at a table alongside Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe when Toyin approached to exchange greetings. While Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe warmly acknowledged Toyin, Funke appeared to deliberately ignore her, looking away and offering no response. The development reportedly left Toyin momentarily embarrassed before she quietly walked away from the table. The video has since generated mixed reactions from fans and observers. Some social media users defended Funke Akindele’s actions, suggesting lingering tensions linked to Toyin Abraham’s perceived alignment with remarks previously made by filmmaker Kunle Afolayan. Others, however, criticized the move, arguing that public figures should maintain professionalism regardless of personal differences. As of the time of filing this report, neither Funke Akindele nor Toyin Abraham has publicly addressed the incident.

Former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, has been discharged and acquitted of all charges of alleged N2.5 billion fraud charge by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. The ruling was delivered on Thursday, March 26, 2026, by Honourable Justice Muazu, following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, who amended the original charge. Under the revised charge, two companies Sobora International Limited and Global Offshore and Marine Limited were arraigned as defendants. Representatives of both companies entered guilty pleas, prompting the prosecution to request their conviction and subsequent winding-up. The defence did not oppose the application. The court accordingly convicted the two companies and ordered that they be wound up. Counsel to Senator Oduah, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), successfully applied for her discharge, a request granted by the court. Similarly, Wale Balogun (SAN), representing the second defendant, Gloria Odita, secured the discharge of his client. The case, initially filed in December 2020, has now formally concluded. Observers note that the matter carried political undertones, with expectations that all parties involved will allow peace to prevail following the court’s decision. The convicted companies were charged under Section 319A of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, 2006.

The political atmosphere in Cross River North Senatorial District has intensified following a strongly worded rejoinder issued by Team Jari Media, dismissing claims by a group known as the “OBO Movement” over the zoning of the senatorial seat. In the statement, the pro-Jarigbe group described the OBO Movement’s position—that the Senate seat is exclusively reserved for Obudu, Bekwarra, and Obanliku Federal Constituency—as “baseless” and lacking historical, legal, or popular backing. “Our attention has been drawn to a laughable and fallacious publication credited to a faceless group parading itself as the ‘OBO Movement,’” the statement read. “This group is nothing more than a poorly disguised front for desperate political actors seeking relevance.” The group further alleged that the OBO Movement is linked to former Governor Senator Ben Ayade and former House of Representatives member Hon. Legor Idagbo, accusing both politicians of attempting to reassert relevance through what it termed “primordial sentiments and political manipulation.” “For the avoidance of doubt, this is not a zoning issue but a figment of their imagination, bereft of historical antecedents, logic, or popular consensus,” the statement added. Team Jari Media insisted that the issue at stake is not zoning but the constitutional right of individuals to contest elections, emphasizing that any attempt to impose a rotational arrangement without broad consensus undermines democratic principles. “Any attempt to foist a zonal arrangement without agreement is a violation of the constitutional rights of eligible candidates to contest,” the group stated. The statement also took aim at the political records of Ayade and Idagbo, claiming both leaders had been rejected by their constituents in the 2023 general elections. “His people, who know him best, rejected him without equivocation,” the group said of Idagbo, while adding that Ayade’s tenure was marked by “abysmal performance, infrastructural decay, and a legacy of indebtedness.” Defending Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the group maintained that he remains the preferred choice of the electorate and has continued to engage stakeholders following his recent move to the All Progressives Congress (APC). “The people have already spoken, and their verdict is clear: Senator Jarigbe remains the preferred choice of Cross River North,” the statement said. The rejoinder also dismissed allegations labeling Jarigbe a “paymaster” as defamatory and without evidence, warning that legal action could be pursued against those responsible for such claims. “The allegation is entirely bereft of particulars and defamatory in character,” the group said. “All available legal remedies will be vigorously pursued.” In a further escalation, the group accused unnamed actors of attempting to influence traditional rulers to support their position, describing such efforts as unlawful. “It is ironic that those making accusations are themselves allegedly seeking to induce traditional rulers,” the statement noted. Calling on their political opponents to engage directly with voters, Team Jari Media challenged Ayade and Idagbo to test their popularity at the polls. “If you consider yourselves men, come to the field and let the people decide,” the statement declared. The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the OBO Movement’s claims, reiterating confidence in Senator Jarigbe’s political standing and readiness for future electoral contests. “Senator Jarigbe remains focused, undeterred, and fully prepared to meet anyone at the polls,” the group said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a newly reviewed set of Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja on Tuesday, INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, said the revised guidelines were aligned with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and designed to address gaps identified in the 2022 framework. Amupitan noted that the Commission undertook a rigorous technical review to ensure the regulations are both legally sound and operationally effective, stressing that “credible elections begin long before polling day.” He explained that the updated guidelines cover critical areas including party registration and mergers, internal party operations, conduct of primaries, campaign activities, political financing, and conditions for deregistration. According to him, particular attention has been given to improving the transparency of party primaries, which he described as a major source of electoral disputes and voter apathy. “By sanitising party primaries, we aim to end opaque processes that impose unpopular candidates and fuel avoidable litigation,” he said. The INEC chairman also highlighted new provisions on election expenses, in line with Section 93(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which empowers the Commission to determine spending limits in consultation with political parties. He further disclosed that the revised regulations introduce measurable benchmarks to promote the inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in party activities. With the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and governorship and state assembly polls set for February 6, 2027, Amupitan said the Commission is working within a compressed timeline that requires what he described as “surgical precision.” The INEC boss urged political parties to view the new guidelines as safeguards rather than restrictions, emphasizing that they are essential to protecting the integrity of the electoral process from candidate nomination to the declaration of results. He also called for constructive engagement from stakeholders, assuring that INEC remains committed to neutrality while taking a firmer stance against practices that undermine democratic values. The consultative meeting forms part of INEC’s broader efforts to build consensus with political actors and ensure a level playing field ahead of the next general elections.

Barely six days to the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), scheduled for March 29 and 30 in Abuja, the North Central Initiatives; a group within the party has declared support for the emergence of Hon. TeeJay Yusuf, as the best candidate for the position of National Chairman. The Group, a strategic alliance network of different associations in the North Central geo-political zone with allegiance to the PDP believes that the former three-term member of the House of Representatives aside being eminently qualified, is the best option for the PDP, at this point in time. In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Alhassan Garba, Mr. Paul Itopa, and Alhaji Ambali Abdulganiyu; President, Secretary, and Publicity Secretary respectively, issued in Abuja on Monday, after its deliberations, the Group stated that, "as our dear party moves towards proper re-positioning, after years of challenges, difficulties, and crises, Yusuf is the best person to pilot this new dream and cause. Over the years, he has consistently emerged as a natural bridge-builder, an excellent networker who is loved by the vast majority of members. He has the strength of character, integrity, and capacity for the position. We like to state unequivocally, that after extensive search, and sampling the opinions of party members with diverse and different cleavages, Yusuf ticks all the boxes. A thorough, true, loyal, and reliable party member, Yusuf has remained consistent in defending the values of the PDP; despite repeated offers from other parties. That Yusuf has built - and is still building - enduring relationships across-the-board within the PDP, and beyond is a strong indication of the numerous positives that the party will benefit from him, as the National Chairman." The Group also believes that, "Yusuf's massive experiences in advocacy, negotiations, networking, and policy deliveries from his days as the Secretary-General of the National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS), and twelve years in the National Assembly where he emerged as a very resourceful, diligent, effective, and efficient lawmaker are what the PDP needs going forward. We are very confident that Yusuf with the support of all our leaders, particularly His Excellency, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, our National Leader, the fortunes of our party will not only be positively turned around, but also lifted to greater heights. Though many party faithful know that Yusuf is not overtly ambitious, but for us, since we are convinced that he is the best option, we have begun strategic discussions with elders, leaders, members, and different groups canvassing what the PDP will gain with him as the national chairman. Happily, for now, there are positive reactions, and we are hopeful that, his endorsements will gather necessary mileage and momentum as we get close to the convention .

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives extends its warmest felicitations to the Muslim Ummah across Nigeria and the world on the auspicious occasion of Eid-el-Fitr. This was contained in a goodwill message to the Muslims jointly signed by the caucus leaders, Rep Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, Leader, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C.Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madak iDeputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi ,Deputy Minority Whip stating that: "This sacred milestone, marking the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan, is a period of profound spiritual significance and a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and devotion. "We warmly commend the faithful for their unwavering commitment throughout the month-long fast, a fundamental pillar of Islam. "Beyond the physical discipline, we recognise the deep spiritual labour involved in offering prayers for spiritual growth and heartfelt supplications for the peace, unity, security, and prosperity of our dear nation. "As faithful moves from the fast to the festivities, the Caucus urges all Nigerians to internalise and sustain the life-changing virtues cultivated during this holy period. "These reflections offer both spiritual and transformative framework for both personal growth and national development, shifting the focus from temporary ritual to enduring character. " Ramadan serves as a rigorous school for the will, where the believer learns to master physical impulses for higher spiritual purposes. "By voluntarily abstaining from basic necessities from dawn until sunset, one develops a profound sense of self-discipline that translates into a greater capacity for leadership and citizenship. "It encourages us all to prioritise collective progress and long-term national stability over immediate personal gratification. "Central to the Ramadan experience is the cultivation of authentic empathy through the physical reality of hunger. "This experience is designed to bridge the social and economic gaps between the privileged and the underserved, fostering a deep compassion for those who face such hardships daily. "This heightened awareness naturally fuels the spirit of Zakat and Sadaqah, reminding every Nigerian that our resources are a trust intended to uplift the vulnerable. "By turning this empathy into consistent charity, we ensure that social justice becomes a permanent feature of our national fabric rather than a seasonal gesture. "Furthermore, the fast encourages a profound purity of intent, as true devotion extends far beyond the stomach to the heart and the mind, requiring a conscious effort to turn away from falsehood, anger, and malice. "Ultimately, the communal nature of the month, marked by breaking bread together at Iftar and standing in unified prayer, serves as a powerful catalyst for national cohesion. "These shared moments break down ethnic, tribal, and social barriers, reminding us that we are one people bound by common aspirations. "While we celebrate, the Caucus remains deeply mindful of the prevailing hardships across the country. "We use this sacred season to call upon the Federal Government to look beyond conventional methods and evolve truly ingenious, people-centered strategies to tackle our multi-sectoral challenges. "It is time for the immediate initiation of policies that move beyond rhetoric to practically ameliorate the daily sufferings of Nigerians. "We are confident that Almighty Allah (SWT) has accepted the prayers, fasting, and acts of Ibadah performed by the Muslim Ummah. " May the peace of Eid dwell in your homes and the lessons of the fast transform our nation. Ramadan Kareem to everyone.

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has strongly condemned the recent triple bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed the lives of 23 people and left 108 others injured. In a statement jointly signed by the Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C, Deputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki, and Deputy Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, the lawmakers expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident. “The Caucus is very sad and pained that the triple explosions carried out by suspected suicide bombers at the Main Market, Gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover, happened simultaneously at a time when residents were going about their lawful, and legitimate businesses,” the statement read. The lawmakers further decried the timing of the attacks, noting that they occurred during significant religious periods. “The Caucus is even more worried that these outlawed felons and despicable renegades carried out their heinous and horrendous attacks during the Holy Month of Ramadan and the Lenten Period which clearly evidenced their disrespect for Islam and Christianity; the two major religions in the country,” they stated. While extending condolences to the victims and the people of Borno State, the caucus called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to support those affected. “While the Caucus sympathizes with the families of the victims, the government and people of Borno State, we call on the Federal Government to immediately direct the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant agencies to provide enhanced medical and humanitarian services to the victims,” the statement added. The caucus also urged security agencies to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing future attacks. “Also, we call on the Nigerian Police Force, and other related security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested, and prosecuted. “Further to this, we charge security agencies to collaborate effectively and efficiently towards increased surveillance, and the protection of lives and properties in Maiduguri, and other parts of the state.” Reaffirming their commitment to addressing insecurity, the lawmakers pledged legislative action where necessary. “As a responsible and responsive group of lawmakers, the Caucus promise to pursue legislative actions; where and when necessary towards finding realistic solutions to these negative development,” the statement concluded.

Barely hours after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Philip Aduda, on Tuesday visited the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, signaling his defection to the ruling party. Aduda Visits APC Secretariat Hours After Resigning from PDPAduda’s visit, which took place shortly after his resignation became public, has further confirmed growing indications that the former lawmaker has formally aligned with the APC. During the visit, Aduda spent about two hours in a closed-door meeting with the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, before departing the party headquarters. Addressing journalists afterward, the former senator said his decision to join the APC was deliberate and rooted in his commitment to national development and progressive politics. He noted that he played a significant role in mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, adding that he was often at the forefront of resolving electoral challenges. “In view of this, I have taken a deliberate decision to align fully with the APC and commit myself to working for the success of Mr. President. I am confident that victory in future elections will not be difficult for us,” he said. Aduda also cited the outcome of the most recent Area Council elections in the FCT as evidence of the APC’s growing strength, noting that the party secured five out of six positions through collaboration and unity. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism that the APC would record even greater success in the North Central region and deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. According to him, the policies and programmes of the current administration, particularly the Renewed Hope Agenda, are attracting widespread support due to ongoing reforms in economic restructuring and national development. “We are implementing reforms that have never been attempted before. These are bold steps that are already yielding results and inspiring confidence among citizens,” he added. Meanwhile, Spark News Daily reports that Aduda’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Karu Ward. Titled “Notice of Resignation of My Membership from the PDP,” the letter cited the lingering crisis within the party as the reason for his exit. “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the PDP with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party,” the letter read. “I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation. Please accept the assurances of my high esteem,” he added.

DICAN Sets May 20 for International Summit on Tackling Disinformation Threats The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria has announced plans to host its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The conference will focus on the rising threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a form of hybrid warfare increasingly seen as capable of undermining international relations and disrupting global trade and investment flows. Speaking ahead of the event, DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the summit is designed to promote collaborative truth as a critical tool for strengthening global security and economic stability. “A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment. Misinformation can scare away foreign investors and destabilize local markets,” he said. According to the organizers, the summit will bring together diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders to deepen cooperation across diplomacy, intelligence, and the media. Discussions will focus on developing international frameworks to counter state-sponsored disinformation, enhancing the detection and neutralization of hybrid threats, and promoting accurate reporting to protect national and economic interests. Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who serves as DICAN’s Grand Patron, is expected to deliver the keynote address. He will be joined by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, alongside other security experts, regulators, and private sector leaders. The conference builds on the success of DICAN’s maiden edition held in July 2025, which attracted participants from over 60 diplomatic missions, civil society organisations, and academic institutions. By convening stakeholders across multiple sectors, DICAN aims to strengthen coordinated responses to the weaponization of false information and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a safe and attractive destination for investment.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the deadly bomb blasts that rocked Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday night, killing at least 23 people and injuring several others. In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed deep sympathy with the victims, their families, and residents of the troubled city, noting that Maiduguri has endured prolonged insecurity over the years. The ADC described the attacks as a grim reminder of the fragile security situation in the country, warning against a relapse into the dark days of sustained insurgent violence in the North-East. While commending first responders and security personnel for their swift intervention, the party raised concerns over what it termed a lack of leadership focus at a critical time. It criticised President Bola Tinubu for being out of the country when the attacks occurred, insisting that moments of national tragedy demand the full attention of the nation’s leadership. The party also accused key government officials of prioritising partisan political activities over urgent security responsibilities, arguing that such distractions are detrimental to efforts to safeguard lives and property. According to the ADC, the protection of citizens must remain the primary responsibility of government, stressing that it should not be overshadowed by political engagements or diplomatic outings. The opposition party therefore called on the President to immediately return to Nigeria and take decisive action to address the worsening security situation. It further urged the government to go beyond routine condemnations by taking full responsibility for preventable loss of lives, including providing compensation to families of victims, both civilians and military personnel. The ADC warned that the continued loss of lives to violent attacks across the country is unacceptable, adding that Nigeria cannot afford to normalise such tragedies.

Popular Nollywood actor and producer, Segun Ogungbe and actress Wunmi Ajiboye have sparked fresh reconciliation rumours after they were seen holding hands publicly nearly three years after their highly publicised breakup. The duo appeared together on Sunday at the premiere of Ogungbe’s new movie, ‘Irete’, where they were spotted warmly interacting and holding hands, a gesture that has fueled speculation that the estranged couple may have resolved their differences. Their appearance comes years after their relationship hit the rocks in 2023 following a controversy that trailed Ajiboye during her mother’s burial ceremony. At the time, the actress came under heavy criticism after she publicly acknowledged Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, while allegedly ignoring Ogungbe at the event. The incident intensified rumours that the couple had parted ways, with Ajiboye also facing allegations of having an affair with MC Oluomo — claims she strongly denied. Responding to critics at the time, Ajiboye urged Nigerians to stop dragging her, insisting that she and Ogungbe were never formally married. According to her, although they share two children together, the actor had not paid her bride price and had never formally met her family. However, their recent public appearance together — particularly the affectionate moment where they held hands — has sparked widespread reactions among fans, many interpreting it as a sign that the Nollywood stars have reconciled after years of separation. As of the time of filing this report, neither Ogungbe nor Ajiboye has officially commented on the status of their relationship.

A suspected armed robber who had been on the police wanted list in Enugu State was severely beaten by an angry mob after he was caught with a pump-action gun at a market square, police sources said. The suspect, identified as Friday Onwujekwu, popularly known as “Nwatico,” was reportedly apprehended by residents at the Eke Market Square in Akiyi, Umulokpa area of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area on Friday afternoon. According to a situation report obtained on Sunday, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on March 13, 2026, after the police received a distress call that the suspect had been captured by members of the public and was being lynched. Onwujekwu had been declared wanted by the state police command following an earlier attack on a member of a local neighbourhood watch group. Police sources said that on January 10, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked Okechukwu Dennis Okoaku at Awkunato Village in Uzo Uwani LGA and dispossessed him of a pump-action gun before fleeing the area. After months on the run, the suspect was reportedly sighted at the market square while still in possession of the stolen weapon, leading to his capture by residents. “The suspect who had been on the run was caught at Eke Market Square in Akiyi Umulokpa while armed with the same pump-action gun he earlier stole. He was being lynched by an irate mob before police intervened,” a police source said. The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where they rescued the suspect from the mob. However, he had already sustained varying degrees of injuries from the beating. The suspect was initially rushed to the Police Clinic in Enugu for urgent treatment but was later referred to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, where he is currently receiving medical care. Police authorities said the case has been transferred to the Command’s Crack Squad in Enugu for further investigation. Meanwhile, security sources noted that the general security situation in the state remains calm, with police continuing aggressive patrols and monitoring across communities.

Lenders Consult International Limited has stated that the company and its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shina Philips, did not divert funds meant for the organization of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers. The company stated this in response to a report published on March 3, 2026, by an online news platform that alleged funds intended for the organization of the Nigeria Police Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers had been diverted. The company described the allegation as false and said the report failed to include its own side of the story. According to the firm, it instituted and has been the organiser of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, described as the country’s longest-running football awards programme. The company said its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force began after it proposed organising an annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers as part of efforts to support capacity building within the force. It explained that the retreat brings together officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above to engage in peer review and exchange ideas on policing and security challenges. The firm said its proposal included an arrangement where it would approach potential sponsors to fund the conference and retreat, adding that the plan was formally approved and has been operational since 2019. "Arising from our desire to support the Nigeria Police in their capacity-building efforts, we approached the police authorities with a proposal to organize an annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, bringing together senior officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above to engage in peer review and cross-fertilization of ideas. “Our proposal included an obligation that, as initiators, Lenders Consult International would be responsible for approaching potential sponsors to fund the retreat. This arrangement was well-received and approved from the outset. This arrangement is official and has been in place since 2019,” the statement reads in part. It stated that the maiden edition of the conference was held in 2019, with the Lagos State Government serving as the host sponsor. According to the company, the event was declared open by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented at the time by then Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. Subsequent editions of the conference were held in Uyo in February 2022 and later in Owerri between 2022 and 2024, before the 2025 edition in Abeokuta. “We kicked off the maiden edition in 2019 with the Lagos State Government as the host sponsor. The event was declared open by His Excellency, late President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, represented by His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo GCON, the then Vice-President. The Conference and Retreat have subsequently been held in Uyo (February, 2022), Owerri (October, 2022, 2023, 2024), and Abeokuta (2025). The company insisted that it has never received any funds from the police to organise the conference, as the conference is a private initiative in support of the Nigeria Police. “We would like to state very strongly that we have never, at any time, received any money by way of funding from the Nigerian Police for the sponsorship of the event. As a corporate entity, we have worked tirelessly to keep the Conference and Retreat afloat, even when sponsorship funds were inadequate to cover the event’s costs. “For the sake of emphasis, we restate that Lenders Consult International, our MD/CEO, and any member of our staff, have at no time received any money from the Nigeria Police, nor have they ever shared any purported loot with retired IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, any past Inspector-General of Police, or Force Public Relations Officer. The company further stated that the Conference has been a catalyst for police transformation and reforms. “The Conference has been very impactful and has led to major transformations in the Police Force. One of the key takeaways from the Nigeria Police Conference and Retreat includes, among others, the establishment of the Police Institute in Abuja. The company further stated that it later proposed the establishment of an annual Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations to recognise outstanding officers within the force. According to the statement, two editions of the awards have been held in 2024 and 2025 in Abuja and were fully sponsored by the company and its partners. It also said Philips, described as a FIFA-licensed football agent, had maintained a longstanding working relationship with senior police officers through various projects. The statement added that he was appointed a consultant to the police in 2020 and tasked with coordinating activities for Police Week 2020, which was later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company said that since the appointment, Philips had continued to support police initiatives without receiving payment, adding that some official trips he undertook alongside the immediate past Inspector-General of Police were self-funded. Reaffirming its position, the firm described itself as a responsible corporate organisation. It said it had maintained cordial relations with the media since launching the Nigeria Pitch Awards at a world press conference in 2011. “We have acted as a responsible corporate body by supporting the Government as best as we can. In furtherance of the desire to continue to motivate the officers and men of the Nigeria Police, we again proposed the idea of an annual Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations, which the police authorities embraced. Two editions of the awards have been held in 2024 and 2025 in Abuja. The awards have been fully sponsored by Lenders Consult International and our partners. “Our MD/CEO, Dr. Shina Philips, has been a patriotic citizen and a FIFA-Licensed Agent who has handled the transfer of some Nigerian footballers. He has enjoyed a strong relationship with the former Inspectors-General of Police and the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force while working on the Projects. He holds the Nigeria Police in very high esteem and is committed to partnering with them to make their job of policing Nigeria easy. “In recognition of his commitment, he was appointed a Consultant to the Police in 2020 and tasked with serving as the sole consultant for the Police Week 2020, which was sadly aborted by COVID-19. Since then, he has continued to make his contributions without receiving any pay. It is based on this appointment that he has had to travel with the immediate Inspector-General of Police. Some of those trips were self-funded, and at no time was any money paid to him or the Company for any of them.

In Nigeria’s often polarised conversation about policing, stories of officers claiming to have pursued accountability within the system rarely dominate the headlines. But a senior police officer has now stepped forward with a detailed account of how an investigation she handled spiralled into what she describes as sustained blackmail despite efforts to uncover alleged financial misconduct. Nkeiruka Nwode, who served as the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPRO) for Zone 13, has defended her role in an investigation involving the alleged withdrawal of over N100 million from the bank account of a detained suspect in Anambra State. According to Nwode, the matter began on January 21, 2023, when a lawyer, Barrister Nweke, alongside Onyinye Ekwueme, visited her office to report that two brothers, Chibuike and Tochukwu Ekwueme, had been arrested by a Joint Task Force on January 11 but their family had no information about their whereabouts. The lawyer also alleged that large sums of money were being withdrawn from one of the suspect’s bank accounts without authorisation. Nwode said she immediately escalated the matter to the then Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Abutu Yaro, who contacted the Anambra State Commissioner of Police to verify whether the suspect was in police custody. The Commissioner later confirmed that the suspect was indeed being held by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu. During the subsequent internal inquiry, the officer in charge of the RRS reportedly stated that a serving National Youth Service Corps member, identified as Nnamdi Daniel Emeh, had withdrawn money from the suspect’s account. Concerned about the reputational implications for the police, Nwode said she began efforts to track down the corps member, who had reportedly gone into hiding. She later established contact with him via WhatsApp, during which he allegedly claimed that the money was with a police officer. Further investigation, she explained, traced part of the money to a Bureau De Change operator in Onitsha after bank alerts revealed that N46 million had been transferred into the man’s account in multiple transactions. The operator was arrested and reportedly told investigators that the funds were transferred at the request of a man identified as Paul Okorie, said to be a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS). According to the account provided, the funds were later converted into dollars and handed over through a bank staff member. Nwode said investigators subsequently placed restrictions on Okorie’s bank accounts while attempting to unravel the full chain of transactions. Despite her involvement in tracing the alleged fraud, the former police spokesperson said she later became the target of what she described as sponsored media attacks aimed at forcing her to abandon the case. She maintained that the pressure did not deter her from continuing the investigation, adding that she eventually tracked the fleeing corps member to the Benin Republic, where he was arrested and brought back to Nigeria. Reflecting on the experience, Nwode said her actions were driven by professionalism and a desire to protect the integrity of the police force. “I deserve commendation and not blackmail,” she stated, arguing that officers who pursue justice within the system should be recognised rather than vilified. Her statement comes amid renewed debates about accountability, transparency and public trust in Nigeria’s law enforcement institutions.

Nigeria’s maritime sector recorded a historic surge in activity in 2025, driven by increased cargo throughput, rising container traffic, and a growing export footprint — a development that underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to economic diversification, according to the 2025 Operational Performance Report released by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The report revealed that total cargo throughput surged by 24.8 percent rising from approximately 103.6 million metric tons in 2024 to over 129.3 million metric tons in 2025. The report emphasized that the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, described the growth as one of the most significant annual increases in Nigeria’s maritime history, noting that the milestone strengthens the country’s position as a more competitive and strategic player in regional and global trade. While imports continue to dominate overall cargo traffic, the report highlights a steady rise in outward trade, with exports accounting for 39.0 percent of total cargo throughput. Inward traffic represented 59.2 percent, and transshipment contributed 1.8 percent. Analysts view the growth in export volumes as a direct validation of the Federal Government’s economic diversification initiatives, aimed at reducing dependence on crude oil and promoting non-oil sector exports. Containerized cargo, a key indicator of export trade activity, grew significantly. Total container traffic increased by 25.7 percent, surpassing 2.1 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). Of this, export containers grew by 3.1 percent, while import-laden containers surged by 32.8 percent. The report also noted a remarkable 205.8 percent increase in transshipment containers, signaling Nigeria’s emergence as a pivotal regional logistics and trade hub. The report identified Lekki Port as the leading port in Nigeria, handling 40.6 percent of the nation’s total cargo throughput. Onne Port followed with 19.1 percent, and Apapa Port handled 16.7 percent. In addition to volume, Lekki Port attracted the largest vessels, with an average Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) of 55,712, slightly higher than Onne Port at 53,022 GRT. Apapa and Tin Can Island Port received ships averaging 33,251 GRT and 36,909 GRT, respectively, while Delta Ports handled vessels averaging 17,414 GRT. The report underscores a structural shift in vessel traffic: although Tin Can Island Port recorded the highest frequency of ship arrivals accounting for 22.7 percent of total ship calls Lekki and Onne are increasingly receiving the industry’s “heavyweight” vessels, enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to handle larger, more valuable cargoes. Overall, total ship calls rose by nearly 12 percent to 4,477 vessels, reflecting broad-based growth across all operational metrics. Liquid bulk cargo, including fuel and chemicals, remained the dominant commodity at 54.7 percent, while containerized cargo accounted for 24 percent. Analysts note that the increasing size and sophistication of vessel traffic, coupled with container growth, points to a maritime sector gradually aligning with global shipping standards. The report also highlights the rising importance of transshipment cargo, particularly for containerized goods destined for other West and Central African ports. The 205.8 percent surge in transshipment containers positions Nigeria as a strategic regional hub, attracting international shipping lines and increasing revenue for the Nigerian Ports Authority. The 2025 NPA Operational Performance Report signals a transformative phase in Nigeria’s maritime industry. Export-led growth, rising container traffic, and the strategic role of Lekki Port illustrate that the nation is not only handling more cargo but is also diversifying the type of goods moving through its ports. “This is a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s trade ecosystem,” maritime analysts said. “The growth in exports and transshipment reflects the success of policy reforms aimed at reducing reliance on oil revenues, while enhancing the competitiveness of Nigerian ports in regional trade.” With the nation’s ports showing resilience and dynamism, the report reinforces the Federal Government’s efforts to expand non-oil exports, attract investment into port infrastructure, and integrate Nigeria more fully into global supply chains. As Nigeria continues to welcome larger vessels and diversify its cargo base, the 2025 NPA report positions Lekki Port and the broader port network as central to the country’s economic diversification strategy, regional trade prominence, and global maritime ambitions. Looking ahead, Dantsoho expressed confidence that the next phase of growth will be driven by the Federal Government–approved bold port modernization programme and the implementation of the National Single Window system. The comprehensive port modernization project is designed to overhaul ageing infrastructure, deepen berths, rehabilitate quays, expand cargo-handling capacity, and deploy advanced digital solutions across Nigeria’s port network. The initiative is expected to improve vessel turnaround time, reduce cargo dwell time, enhance safety standards, and significantly boost operational efficiency across all terminals.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have formally flagged off a nationwide enforcement framework to ensure strict compliance with the Federal Government’s ban on sachet alcohol and alcoholic beverages packaged in bottles below 200 millilitres. The enforcement campaign, launched at a joint press conference in Abuja, marks the beginning of coordinated regulatory and behavioural change measures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the initiative as a strategic public health intervention aimed at curbing underage access to cheap, high-concentration alcohol. “This campaign is not about restriction for its own sake. It is about safeguarding the future of young Nigerians,” Issa-Onilu said, noting that sachet alcohol has remained inexpensive, portable and easy to conceal, making it dangerously accessible to minors. Under the enforcement framework, NOA will deploy its network of 818 offices across all 774 Local Government Areas to drive grassroots sensitisation and compliance monitoring. Activities will include town hall meetings, market outreaches, school engagements, motor park campaigns and collaborations with faith-based institutions. Messaging will be delivered in local languages to deepen community penetration. The agency will also leverage television, radio, digital platforms and its CLHEEAN App to encourage citizens to report violations, while urging parents, retailers, distributors and community leaders to support enforcement efforts. On her part, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the enforcement follows resolutions of the Senate urging the agency to ensure strict implementation of the ban and to halt further extensions of the moratorium on sachet alcohol. Effective January 1, 2026, the Federal Government banned the production and sale of alcohol in sachets and in PET or glass bottles smaller than 200ml. Adeyeye said the enforcement framework is backed by data from a 2021 nationwide survey conducted in collaboration with the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria, which revealed high levels of underage access to alcohol. According to the findings, over half of minors surveyed purchased alcohol themselves, with a significant percentage obtaining sachet packs and small PET bottles directly from retailers. She warned that early exposure to alcohol increases risks of addiction, poor academic performance, road crashes, risky sexual behaviour and long-term mental health challenges. Citing global medical evidence, she added that alcohol consumption damages the developing brain, particularly areas responsible for memory and impulse control. The NAFDAC boss stressed that enforcement would not only focus on production and distribution channels but also on retail outlets found violating the ban. The framework is expected to strengthen regulatory surveillance, enhance public awareness and promote community participation in reducing underage alcohol consumption nationwide. Officials described the flag-off as a decisive step toward protecting vulnerable populations and reinforcing compliance with Nigeria’s public health regulations.

A political support group, ADC Grassroots Mobilization for Change (AGMC), has condemned the reported attack on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a meeting at the residence of the party’s National Legal Adviser, Oserheimen Osunbor, in Iruekpen, Edo State. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, comes barely five days after alleged hoodlums disrupted a meeting of ADC leaders at the party’s secretariat in Benin City. According to the group, a video from the scene showed youths recovering spent cartridges believed to have been fired from pump-action rifles after chasing away the attackers. In a statement signed by its Director of Communication, Andrew Iguebor, AGMC described the development as a disturbing pattern of intimidation targeted at the opposition party in Edo State. The group stated that democracy can only flourish in an atmosphere where differing political views are respected, not suppressed through violence. It described the attack as an example of political intolerance and condemned the disruption of what it called a peaceful and duly convened meeting held within a private residence. AGMC further alleged that opposition voices in Edo State were being targeted, warning that such actions pose a threat to democratic principles. The group insisted that the ADC would not be intimidated and reaffirmed its commitment to participating fully in the state’s political process ahead of the 2027 elections. Calling on security agencies to intervene, the group urged a thorough investigation into the incident and prosecution of those responsible, stressing that the protection of democratic values must remain paramount.

...Urges Police, DSS to Go After Alleged Sponsors of Smear Campaign A prominent socio-political group in the South-East, the South East Progressive Forum, has dismissed recent social media allegations against the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, describing them as politically motivated blackmail. In a statement issued Monday evening and signed by its spokesperson, Chief Ihuoma Okoronkwo, the group called on security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate and apprehend those allegedly sponsoring what it termed “professional blackmailers of government functionaries.” The controversy stems from claims circulating online alleging an overlap between Kalu’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and his attendance at the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus. A group identified as Abia Patriots has reportedly amplified the allegations, citing a petition said to have been forwarded to the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) over what was described as “fraudulent enrolment” on the Roll of Legal Practitioners of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. However, the South East Progressive Forum waved off the allegations, insisting they were part of a coordinated attempt to tarnish the image of the Deputy Speaker. Kalu, who emerged Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives in June 2023 with the support of a majority of the 360-member House, is currently the highest-ranking political office holder from the South-East in the present administration. While acknowledging that public office often attracts scrutiny, the Forum expressed concern over what it described as sustained media attacks allegedly originating from Abia State, where Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party is in office. The group accused Abia Patriots of operating with ulterior motives, alleging that the platform was formed primarily to target Kalu. It claimed that the group’s public communications have largely focused on criticizing the Deputy Speaker while praising the Abia State Government. “No amount of blackmail or social media attacks will deter the Deputy Speaker from performing his lawful duties,” the statement read, urging him to remain focused on his legislative responsibilities. The Forum also appealed to the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee to handle the petition professionally and transparently, expressing confidence that the body would not be influenced by political considerations. According to the group, overlaps between NYSC service and professional or academic programmes are not uncommon, particularly where admission timelines coincide with mobilization schedules. It further noted that Kalu had contested and won elections in 2019 and 2023 after being cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that relevant authorities had previously vetted his credentials. The Forum emphasized that the Deputy Speaker, as a presiding officer of the House, represents not only Bende Federal Constituency but also plays a national leadership role across all 360 federal constituencies. Reaffirming its support, the group described Kalu as a respected parliamentarian and urged security agencies to investigate the alleged smear campaign, while allowing due process to take its course regarding the petition before the LPDC. |
The Chief Executive Officer of DAMA Academy, Nwankwo Prince Ozioma, has called for stronger national engagement with blockchain, digital assets and artificial intelligence, describing them as foundational technologies shaping the future global economy. Speaking during a press conference organized in collaboration with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) in Abuja on Monday, Prince Ozioma said Nigeria must move from observation to active participation in the rapidly evolving decentralized digital ecosystem. In his keynote address, the DAMA Academy CEO highlighted the global transformation driven by blockchain and AI, referencing the rise of decentralized finance through Bitcoin, artificial intelligence advancements from OpenAI, and enterprise blockchain adoption by institutions such as IBM in the United States. He stressed that these technologies enable transparent systems, inclusive financial structures, tokenized economies and data-driven healthcare solutions. “Africa must not be left behind. Nigeria must not be left behind. Our youths must not be left behind,” he said. As a practical case study, he introduced Body Scan AI, a health-focused innovation that combines artificial intelligence for diagnostics, blockchain for secure and immutable medical records, and a digital asset known as the SCANAI token to incentivize participation within a decentralized health ecosystem. According to him, the Body Scan AI application which is yet to be deployed is designed to empower individuals with AI-driven tools, protect patient data through blockchain security, and facilitate seamless transactions via decentralized exchanges such as Raydium. Prince Ozioma called on the media to promote informed reporting, reduce misinformation and encourage responsible innovation, noting that “the future economy will reward those who prepare and engage early.” The AI-powered health monitoring system, according to DAMA Academy instructor, Mr. Moses Obaje, is designed to analyze health-related data points including emotional indicators, body mass index (BMI), posture patterns, lifestyle quality metrics and other biometric signals. The system, he said, is capable of detecting early warning signs of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, fibroids and cardiovascular conditions. Mr Obaje, nicknamed AI Prof, speaking through zoom from the UK explained that the Body Scan AI model draws conceptual inspiration from advancements in intelligent systems similar to those developed by OpenAI, where machine learning models analyze large datasets to generate predictive insights. He further explained that the technology aims to shift healthcare from reactive treatment to preventive intelligence. “The second layer of the system relies on blockchain technology for secure, decentralized storage of medical records. “Blockchain, first popularized through digital assets such as Bitcoin, is being repurposed in this initiative as a secure cloud-based infrastructure for health data management. “Health consultations can be recorded on blockchain, patient records become tamper-resistant, data integrity is preserved, unauthorized third-party interference is eliminated and patients maintain control over who accesses their medical data. Blockchain ensures privacy, transparency and data ownership,” he said, noting that individuals can share their health information directly with consultants without intermediary control. According to him, another layer of the system introduces a digital token mechanism within a health and wellness marketplace. “Under this model, users earn or exchange tokens. Tokens can be used for health-related products and services, wellness participation can be incentivized and preventive health engagement becomes economically rewarding.” Mr Obaje noted that the model could support national campaigns to reduce obesity, heart disease and other chronic illnesses by encouraging healthier lifestyle choices through digital incentives. On the security of the token, another instructor Paul Elombeh allayed fear, emphasizing that investment in Body Scan AI isn't a ponzi scheme. He urged Nigerians to commence purchase of the token, warning that after the deployment of the Body Scan AI Application, the token may not be available as only 1 billion Bitcoin is provided for.

President of the Africa Development Studies Centre, ADSC, Sir Victor Walsh Oluwafemi warmly congratulates the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, and the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the landmark arbitration victory against European Dynamics UK Ltd. This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Sir Victor Walsh Oluwafemi, an International Development Expert, Reputation Architecture Strategist stating that: "This decisive outcome is not merely a legal win. It is a governance statement. "At a time when international contractors often assume that African institutions will capitulate under technical pressure, Nigeria has demonstrated maturity, institutional discipline and contractual courage. "The dismissal of claims totalling over 6.2 million dollars signals a structural shift in how the country manages public-sector technology contracts. "This is a defining moment in Nigeria’s procurement evolution, Oluwafemi asserted. He explained that: "For years, procurement in many developing economies has been vulnerable to inflated milestone claims, loosely defined deliverables and weak enforcement of performance validation mechanisms. "The tribunal’s affirmation of the centrality of User Acceptance Testing reinforces a fundamental principle: value must be delivered before value is paid for. "That principle must now become doctrine. The Bureau of Public Procurement has sent a powerful message to the global contracting community that Nigeria will no longer accept distorted contractual interpretations, premature payment claims or technical shortcuts disguised as compliance. Payment must follow performance. "Performance must be verifiable. Verification must be independent and rigorous. This is how institutions are built. "The courage shown by Dr Adedokun in resisting premature settlement discussions reflects leadership rooted in fiduciary responsibility rather than convenience. "The strategic coordination between the Bureau, the Attorney General’s office and Nigerian legal experts further demonstrates that domestic professional capacity can compete and prevail on the international stage. "This victory should now catalyse a broader reform journey. Nigeria must seize this moment to institutionalise a new procurement architecture anchored on: • Mandatory performance validated digital milestones • Strengthened e-procurement oversight frameworks • Independent technical audit layers embedded into contract execution • Clear modular phase governance structures • Structured risk allocation in technology contracting "Through frameworks such as Policy as a Platform and Results as a Service, Nigeria can move beyond reactive dispute resolution into proactive procurement intelligence. The future of public procurement must be data-driven, performance-coded, and legally fortified. "This arbitration win should mark the beginning of a national procurement renaissance. "Let the journey of procurement reform begin in earnest. Let Nigeria’s e-procurement ecosystem evolve into a benchmark for transparency, accountability, and technical excellence across Africa. Let every contractor understand that Nigeria welcomes partnership but insists on performance. "Today, Nigeria did not simply win a case. Nigeria strengthened its institutions. Nigeria protected public resources. Nigeria restored confidence in the architecture of public accountability. "The Africa Development Studies Centre stands ready to support the Bureau of Public Procurement and relevant federal institutions in embedding these lessons into sustainable reform frameworks that will redefine public sector contracting for the digital age. "The message is clear. Nigeria is no longer business as usual. The procurement reform era has begun," Oluwafemi added.

The immediate past Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm, Hon. Julius Adamu, has explained why he stepped down as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship aspirant to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in his ward during the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. Adamu, who spoke with journalists shortly after casting his vote, said his decision followed consultations with party leaders and was taken in the overall interest of peace, unity and development of the Area Council. “First and foremost, let me say I was a candidate under the platform of PDP, but with the consultation and advice of my leaders at the top, I had to step down for the APC candidate in my ward,” he said. He noted that the APC candidate, whom he described as a former councillor from his ward, is well known to him and capable of serving the people effectively. “Honourable Joshua is also a candidate from my ward. He was a councillor in 2016. After I left office and he took over in 2019, I was the Speaker of the House,” Adamu explained. Describing himself as a strong contender in the race, Adamu said his withdrawal was not borne out of weakness but out of conviction and a desire to prioritise the collective good. “In fact, let me say I was the hottest candidate as far as the Area Council is concerned,” he stated. “But God has His way of doing His own things, and so I have to step down for him for the progress and development of the people of the Area Council.” Adamu emphasised that political ambition should not override the need for peace and unity, particularly at the grassroots level. According to him, “There is nothing that peace cannot give. When the atmosphere is peaceful, everything will be successful.” He urged supporters and residents to maintain calm and continue to participate peacefully in the electoral process, stressing that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of cooperation and stability. The FCT Area Council elections are being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the six area councils of the nation’s capital.

Julius Adamu, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as a credible and peaceful election in the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council polls. Hon. Adamu, who spoke to journalists shortly after casting his vote in his ward, 008, Katampe Village Square, said the electoral umpire had demonstrated readiness and professionalism in the conduct of the exercise. “INEC has done well, and I can see that the atmosphere is peaceful,” he said. “You can see there is no fracas, no argument. People are just voting their right choice of candidates.” The former PDP candidate disclosed that although he initially contested under the PDP platform, he stepped down after consultations with party leaders and decided to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in his ward for the interest of unity and development. “First and foremost, let me say I was a candidate under the platform of PDP, but with the consultation and advice of my leaders at the top, I had to step down for the APC candidate in my ward,” Adamu stated. “God has His way of doing His own things, and so I have to step down for him for the progress and development of the people of the Area Council.” Assessing the conduct of the election, Adamu noted that the process had so far been orderly, with early arrival of officials and materials at several polling units he monitored. “We discovered that in some of the polling units I monitored today, officials and materials arrived as early as 6am and 6:30am,” he said. “When you look at the system of INEC today, it is a fresh and brand new chairman, and I believe he will do his best, because the starting has shown that he is ready for the work.” While expressing optimism that the peaceful atmosphere would be sustained through the end of the exercise, Adamu emphasised the importance of calm and orderly conduct by voters. “There is nothing that peace cannot give,” he added. “By the time the atmosphere is peaceful, everything will be successful. I pray the way the voting is going on, let it end as such.” Moreover, some of the party agents who spoke with our Correspondent lauded the Commission and security agencies for the peaceful and credible conduct of the election so far. Glory Victor Onuoha, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Supervising Agent, observed that the election has been peaceful and credible. "The election has been peaceful and credible so far and I pray it continues this way", she said. In his remarks, the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) agent, Ilesanmi Adegoke commended the INEC officials for arriving early to the polling unit. "Here at the Katampe Village Square (Chief's Palace) election has been peaceful and calm, and the election is on going and we hope to have a successful election today", he concluded. The FCT Area Council elections are being closely monitored by stakeholders, with voters turning out across polling units in the six area councils to elect their representatives.
