The young man in this case should just conclude the cultural requirement of paying bride price on the late wife. In Igbo culture, you don't claim a child unless you pay the pride price of the mother. The custom and culture of Igbo people will be strange to the magistrate. It is not something that should be subjected to legal rigmarole.

if i may ask in a situation were in the man died even without paying the complete bride price and the girl's family is not in support of the engagement what do you thing happens to the child?

i know and have witnessed such situations of wife or husband's death but the families have no right to take custody of the child restricting association to the other party.whether married or not he owns the child and should have access to the baby unless the grandfather has other hidden agenda as regards to having no male child of his own.

also meditate on the fact that if the man has denied been responsible for the pregnancy, the same man(father-in law) would taunt and torment his daughter to provide the father of her son. He should be grateful that the man accepted both mother and child saving him from the shame he would have gone through especially as a Chief, his daughter who would have been rename as a second hand/ ashawo who can't keep her legs closed and the baby who would have been called a bastard.
