Business / One Quality That Will Silence Criticism by PrimeAfricans: 10:44am On Apr 29, 2017
Criticism has undoubtedly played a major role in keeping much potential locked and hidden, it has kept the ideas of bright minds which are capable of causing industrial revolution from seeing the light of day.

-Did you ever plan to carry out an action only to withdraw because of what people might think?

-Have you held back pursuing your goals just because you were previously laughed at?

–Have you ever shared your plans with someone only to receive an unpleasant response?

Criticism can be constructive such that it could lead to improvement or destructive such that it deters it, but only the educated may understand the former and use it as a tool for improvement.
However, to those who might not know how to handle it, criticism is a bane that must be silenced in order to achieve your dreams and visions.

Wale Adenuga who was a Nigerian former cartoonist/publisher, and currently a series producer studied business administration at the University of Lagos in 1971, and worked for the cartoon section of the campus’ magazine where he was soon made chief cartoonist. In 1975 after graduation and youth service in Bendel, his comic Ikebe Super was launched followed by other magazines like Super Story and Binta, a children’s publication.

The Recession and Adenuga’s Response

In the late eighties, Nigerian publications were affected by the economic depression which caused a major devaluation of the Nigerian naira, an as such the cost of producing his comics and magazines sky-rocketed since the materials were mostly imported. But amazingly, instead of “throwing in the towel’ and giving up, he devised a means to outwit the economic recession and his actions later proved to be a major turning point in their operations.

“I could say what inspired me to leap from prints as Ikebe Super magazine, Super Story magazine to Papa Ajasco in television was 50% inspiration, 50% necessity. We were enjoying publishing, our readership were enjoying what we were publishing until the economy took a very very deep slump. Naira was devalued, everything shot up, cost of production went haywire and it affected publishing more than it did to the electronic so we swerved from publishing to television”

Romance / Tips For Boosting Your Confidence And Self-esteem by PrimeAfricans: 7:44pm On Apr 04, 2017
Low self-esteem is a destructive trait and it is found mostly among individuals with unpleasant past, poor background or upbringing and for some, it might be because they’re not comfortable with their looks or are haunted by the mistakes they’ve made initially. These and many other reasons inhibit their confidence and consequently suppress their potentials.

For some reason, there are people who are naturally reserved, shy and possess inferiority complex. Have you seen people who are awfully quiet in every conversation? Who are always passive and indifferent in every activity?

If you’re among this category of people, then tryout these steps I’ve outlined below. I’m confident you’ll experience positive results. Imagine how much you could achieve if you were confident about everything in your life.

Common practices that will boost your confidence and self-esteem.

1. ALWAYS INTRODUCE YOURSELF NICELY:

Have a strong positive opinion about yourself and be proud to declare it. You must not believe it just yet. Keep saying until you believe it and keep believing until you become it.

Hey! Try this activity for the next 30days and it will change your life for good

Career / The Fundamental Truth About Turning Your Passion Into Your Career by PrimeAfricans: 10:08pm On Mar 28, 2017
Passion and Career:

“If you turn your passion into your career, you’ll never have to work a day in your life”

-Suli Breaks

Our nation, continent and the world in general is filled with individuals living below their dreams and expectations. It is unfortunate to say that these minds which all have or at one time had brilliant ideas that can cause an industrial revolutions have their lives moving in circles , working tirelessly but also aimlessly; living on paychecks.

Some who are high up the ladder think their situation is better compared to the massive number of people who spend their lives working for others but like Suli Breaks says

“You might win the rat race but at the end you’re still just a rat”

He said

“You might say you’re making an honest living but let’s face the fact, are you honestly living?”

The point I’m trying to make in this article is that there’s no replacement for the sense of satisfaction you get by being you own boss. This does not necessarily mean that you should quit your present job. But you can still setup your own private venture even while working for someone else or the government, thereby establishing multiple streams of income. And then when you’re fully established you can quit your previous job and give your maximum attention to your own business or establishment that is based on what you love.

Now, having established that it is more profitable and satisfactory to make what you love your minefield, I’ll now go on to outline how you can make that happen.

Career / Two Very Important Tools For Effective Leadership Everyone Must Posses. by PrimeAfricans: 2:29pm On Mar 21, 2017
According to John .C. Maxwell:

“Everything rises and falls on leadership”

–John .C. Maxwell

Too many people neglect this subject because they think it is only concerned with those in authority; people occupying political or religious offices.

While this thought may have some elements of truth in it, it is however absolutely vital to note that leadership goes beyond that even down to how you’re able to manage your day to day activities, your relationship with people and your response to situations around you.

This article just gives a brief exposition on what leadership entails as it applies to our lives and endeavors. I’m certain you will learn a lesson from this.

Some points to consider in displaying effective leadership are:

1.Doing the right thing: Effective leaders don’t only do things right, they do the right things. An understanding of this statement is what determines your productivity level otherwise you’ll be beating the air or ‘pouring water into a basket’.

2. Having the right mindset: it is not just enough to know and do the right things; you have to actually believe in what you’re doing. The mind is a powerful tool, which when channeled properly would produce amazing results.

3. Acting accordingly: this is the most important part, because having a vast measure of knowledge, wealth of experience and diversity of skills without action is utterly useless.

Some people have brilliant ideas but are afraid to act (this is a major impediment to achieving anything useful in life)

I’ve personally realized from study and experience that:

“If you keep waiting for things to be perfect before you act, you’ll never achieve anything”.

-Igwe Kelechi

So, go out there and try and fail and when you do, don’t give up try again until you get it, you’ll be happy you did.

A great man once said:

“When you fall, don’t be too quick to stand, kneel first, then you can stand”

-Bon Osita

This means that there is always a lesson to learn from each failure, at least you’ll take note of what made you fall and stay as far away from it as possible.

Two major keys or tools for effective leadership are:

1. Personal development: Developing the leader in you is all about developing yourself and what is personal development?
It is consciously taking a decision to become a better person daily and acting on it.

It also entails a conscious process of activities you engage in that leads to personal change, advancement, growth, progress and improvement.

The latter statement above is very important because

“God will not give to you by MIRACLE what He has designed for you to get by MATURITY and PRINCIPLE”

-Simeon Afolabi (RCCG)

“You can never climb beyond the limits of your character”.

-John .C. Maxwell

Action point: Decide that you’re going to be a better version of yourself and make conscious effort towards that.

2. Passion: if people can’t mention a word or a problem/need and remember you or your service(i.e. your expertise or ability to solve it), then you’re passionate about nothing. Specialize on your niche and develop your skills until you’re the best in that field.

Best of luck!!!

Career / One Thing You Must Do To Be Successful: Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija Shares Insights by PrimeAfricans: 11:55am On Mar 14, 2017
One thing you must do to be successful in any task you wish to accomplish lies in your understanding and implementation of the statement below:

It’s essential to draw up a “things to do” list on a daily basis and set priorities in executing them, making sure that any unfinished task get posted to the next day’s list. – Folorunsho Alakija.

One of the most difficult things we find very hard to do is to make a daily plan and follow it through.

This is why I’m particularly excited with this quote because it points out an essential factor to achieving maximum productivity in all areas of life including academics, entrepreneurship, religion career and any other goal one may intend to achieve.

This quote was stated by Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija whose life and career proves the unbeatable truth that stating your plans clearly and visibly is essential to achieving success.

WHO IS FOLORUNSHO ALAKIJA?

Folorunsho Alakija is one of the richest African women and also one of the richest black women in the world with Net worth of US$2.1 billion according to Forbes as of 2015.She is a Nigerian business tycoon involved in the fashion, oil and printing industries. She is the group managing director of The Rose of Sharon Group comprising of The Rose of Sharon Prints & Promotions Limited and Digital Reality Prints Limited and the executive vice-chairman of Famfa Oil Limited.

She is the first female Chancellor (Osun State University) in Nigeria and currently, she serves as the Chief Matron of Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs.

ACHIEVEMENTS

She was:

As of 2014, the 96th most powerful woman in the world according to Forbes.
The richest woman of African descent in the world, unseating Oprah Winfrey who held that position as of then.
In May 2015 87th on the list among the world’s 100 most powerful women according to Forbes.
As of 2015, she was listed as the second most powerful woman in Africa, after Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

PHILANTHROPY

As evidence of her patriotism and generosity, this dynamic lady established a foundation called the Rose of Sharon Foundation that helps widows and orphans by empowering them through scholarships and business grants.
It is also interesting to note that one of the most reliable scholarship scheme in Nigeria with over a thousand people yearly as beneficiaries; the Agbami medical and engineering scholarship scheme is majorly sponsored by her company.

Having read her biography, you may be tempted to conclude that she made all these achievements because she was from a successful background.

Oh! How wrong that would be. I can’t even begin to enumerate the numerous billionaires who had very poor backgrounds.

The rules of wealth and success answer to ANYONE who respects and applies it and ‘GOAL SETTING’ is one of those rules.

Whether short term goals or long term, goal setting is very important because:

A dream written down with a date becomes a GOAL.

A goal broken down into steps becomes a PLAN.

A plan backed up by ACTION makes your dreams come true.

Career / How To Build A Strong Business Venture: 4 Tools Used By Mrs Ibukun Awosika by PrimeAfricans: 9:44am On Mar 06, 2017
Learn some Useful business strategy tips from the life and experiences of Mrs. Ibukun Awosika
Brief Profile
Mrs. IbukunOluwa Awosika, currently the chairman, First Bank Nigeria Limited and Afterschool Graduate Development Centre (AGDC) graduated from University of Ife,Nigeria with a degree in Chemistry. She also did a Chief Executive Programme in Lagos Business School, the Global Executive MBA in IESE Business School, Barcelona-Spain; and Global CEO Programme of Wharton, IESE and C.E.I.B.S Business Schools.

She founded and presides over The Chair Centre Group- a group of companies comprising The Chair Centre Limited, Sokoa Chair Centre Limited, Furniture Manufacturers Mart Limited, and TCC Systems and Services Limited and are involved in furniture manufacturing, retail and bank-way security systems services.

4 Significant Virtues she demonstrated in her early days

1.Excellence: Mrs. Awosika has always attracted attention and appreciation by her undeniable display of excellence. Beginning from her early days in school where she finished with a Grade 1 and won the Dotun Okubanjo prize for the most outstanding student. She also delivered valedictory message for her set in Church after achieving these excellent academic results.
This excellence was duplicated in The Chair Centre Group, her furniture group of companies where she ensured that all her products and services are of high standard quality.

2.Integrity: She demonstrated integrity in accordance with her faith when she declined using bribery as a means of clearing her furniture shipment at a lower cost than legally required, even when suggested by her agent.
She also proposed not to engage in smuggling when importation of furniture was banned, thereby shutting down about 80% of her company.
It is also intriguing to know that she refused to partner with money launders who loot funds from projects. Therefore, she rejected contract bids that usually require bribe to procure. This made her lose a lot of bids but helped her maintain her Christian faith and earned her respect and trust and also inspired her employees.

3.Intelligence/Creativity: After her Company was shut down due to the ban placed on furniture importation, Mrs. Awosika didn’t ‘throw her hands in the air’ and give up. Instead she devised a strategy to localize production of the same furniture by making a proposal and striking a partnership with the manufacturing company and succeeded in opening a branch here in Nigeria. This was largely dependent on her previous relationship with the company and the aid of external investors.

4.Faith: Lastly and most importantly, this woman had her faith to back up her actions. Having been born into a Muslim family and embraced Christianity after her graduation, she defended this faith when she refused to give bribe to customs or import goods illegally.
She demonstrated faith when she decided to approach the manufacturing company for partnership and also exhibited great leadership capacity when she successfully retained all her employees even when the ban placed on importation shut down her company, thereby making them jobless. I can only imagine what value and impact that action must have made in the lives of her employees.

What’s more? She embraced this faith and having been ordained a Pastor, founded the Christian Missionary Fund; and through this faith-based organization, she works with hundreds of missionaries spread across Nigeria to change lives through provision of medical, educational, and other supplies.
She is happily married to Abiodun Awosika and they are blessed with three wonderful sons. She’s a model to many and I personally think that we as mothers, wives, entrepreneurs, pastors and general leaders should take a cue from Mrs. Ibukun Awosika and attain our highest peak in life.
