I knew about this PART 18 late.

I got my VISA APPROVED on June 24th. Myself, Wife and 2 kids.

Thanks to everybody here that gave me one advice or the other. Shoutout to @OyotunjiUSA for his prompt answers and criticism. And also to @fearlessfang & @debieee for encouraging me to go with my 3F2s.

I'll recommend this thread to everyone who need firsthand information about F1 Visa. The information here is unquantifiable and organic.

Hello, APAwarlord and every other person searching for a date.

I understand that there have been warnings here against joining any external group in order to avoid being scammed. Therefore, I don’t want to play the devil’s advocate but let me say this just ONCE

1. I was initially given an October date whereas my resumption date on I-20 is September 15

2. I sent a mail requesting for emergency appointment immediately I saw the date. The request was denied a few days later. (A consultant later told me I should have waited till about 40-60 days to resumption before sending that emergency request mail)

3. I just gently sent a mail to my school asking for the information on how to defer till next year January

4. A few days later, somebody posted on the WhatsApp group that there would be new dates for F1, Lagos very soon according to a mail she received and that we should all log in to our portals to check

5. In less than two hours after that update, I logged in to my portal and saw a date for June 22 available with several slots…I was not the only one…everyone who was online on the group that day and saw the message early enough also benefited from that information. I was able to reschedule from October to June and I sent a mail back to my school that I wasn’t deferring anymore.

6. Don’t ask me for the group link pls, but if you go back about 10 pages you should get information on how to join.

7. Please and Please and Please, this group is only to share information on availability of dates and share interview transcripts also, not for selling of dates or any thing that has to do with money.

At this point, it's better to close this thread to avoid continuing a charade. No one is posting transcripts as before. All we have now is moving from one problem to another. The original purpose of this thread has been lost and abused.

You really said my mind. The WhatsApp group that we were warned about served purpose these days than NL. Date searching, Transcript, encouragements and all are what we need.

I know people from here that have interviewed but rather shared their transcript elsewhere.

I’ve decided to interview together with my family
: Wife and 2 kids.

Since I’ll be traveling alone first and they plan to join in January next year.

Is it okay to indicate that I’ll be traveling alone in my DS160 or indicate I have companions?? I indicate I’m traveling alone and fill for them as traveling as a group.

Should I put different date of departure in my DS160 or I should input we are leaving together same date. Please advise 🙏🏽

Is it a PLUS to mention to the VO that I have a paper in pipeline awaiting publication in conjunction with my Prospective PI?? Or it’s a red flag??

Had my F-1 visa interview yesterday for my phd and I got it. Fully funded too. However, I told the consulate that I am single and not married and the VO probably wrote that down right there. However, the possibility of me getting married before I leave for the program is high. Won’t this be an issue for my woman if she starts appearing for a F-2 visa interview in few years to come by God grace?

Well, to add.. I saw family people getting denied yesterday. I don’t know their visa purpose but then going to an F-1 interview with your wife and kid look somehow

1. Follow @MrSoftlife 's advice . I support everything she stated.

2. By the way , you did not win Visa Lottery , why would you want to quickly go with your family ? F1 visa in all levels ( Bsc, Msc, Phd) are usually being denied as a result of inability to prove ties as well as inability to prove availability of funds. Why do you want to quickly go with your greatest tie ( your wife and kids) ?

3. If you secure this F1 visa as a PhD applicant , then you are on your way to becoming a permanent resident in the USA (all through citizenship if you desire to do so) , now let anyone come out to say that the USA vos won't give your nuclear family visas to come and join or visit you after some years . Impatient is what i am deducing here .

4. Quoting @MrSoftlife again. If you however desire to go with your family at a go it is still very possible and it has happened before , but i personally will focus on getting myself in America first . I know my family will certainly join me no matter how long.

1. I’m not planning on going with them immediately, they’ll need to come at a later date as my wife is working and currently running her MBA here in Nigeria.

2. Your suggestions were the original plan till 2 of my mentors who contributed immensely in this journey raised the issue of going together citing what they went through before their wives could join them.

I would appreciate if we can connect personally via DMs and if there’s a way I can run my story because it will hurt my wife to think she jeopardize my chance if it didnt work hence my post here

Hello house, please I need honest and critical input on this issue:

I have a fully funded PhD Admission into a R1 US School. I have a wife and 2 kids (2yrs and infant(few weeks))….is it advisable to apply together with them? What are the Pros and Cons??

I heard it’s almost impossible for F2 to secure visa if they went later and alone.

A PhD without funding is not advisable. Huge financial implications.

I am asking because I want to go with my family and would have to proof 17k for them.

I’ve been following this thread for a while. I got a PhD. Admission into a school in the US and awaiting a funding decision.

My question is how long must a required deposit sit in my Account before I print the statement and send to the school as proof. I have an investment I can liquidate, I’d like to know so I can withdraw it earlier so the days can start counting.
