February 1st 2025, I stared this RE jonery after months of following this forum. Although am on lead acid and satchet inverter. Modify sinewave, which I will soon upgrade this month to pure since wave satchet one thou. Since February each time I see this as the investment that comes with peace of mind. I HV since disconnected there so called Grid. Soley on solar. I thank this forum onces again,una no know watin una don do for ppl like me. Like some one here always say "na who get sense the use solar"

Listen to this guy. Am experiencing same. If u use a clone phone or refurbished phone, this is what u will see. I hv two oppo phones that are refurbished they r doing just same. I had to move my Whatsapp back to my odd phn and everything stopped.

What exactly do you wish to learn. I shared some pics of my setup earlier on in the thread. It's simple really.

The dc cable from the cc goes into a dc breaker. The output dc cable from the dc breaker goes into the central connection of the Swiss knife change over. Finally each end of the change over has a dc cable connected to different batteries. So u just switch the change over from one battery to the 9ther depending on which you need to charge with the panels.

How do I now run the inverter side ?

It is possible. Infact I currently use 2 of such similar setups. However ensure you switch off the breaker between the cc and the panels b4 making the switch using regular change over we use for typical switch BTW grid supply and power generator engine.

Pls I really need to learn this connection

Good morning wonderful people.

I stumbled on this thread and its been educative even though i no understand most of the big terms thrown around lol

So i have a small problem or should I say dilema.

My setup:
⁠Battery: Tubular 200Ah, 12V (new) -- Brand is Kartel
Inverter: 1500W, 12V (Sukam Falcon, Pure sine wave)
Solar Panels: 2 × 300W (600W total).

I dont know much about the charge controller but I will attach a picture to help guide whomever is answering.

Load:
Fan - 125 W
TV - 60 W
Laptop - 39W
5 LED bulb lights


I used the battery from Friday evening to Sunday early morning cos our light wasn't good (low voltage). Throughout Saturday from morning till about 5pm i was using TV and the fan whilst charging via solar. At night i used the fan alone till morning.

The battery was low (11.0v) and started charging again via solar around 8am. I plugged a phone and the fan before unplugging everything around 12pm. By 3.30 pm I plugged the fan and lights before unplugging at 5pm. I powered it on by 7pm and within 15 minutes I got a battery low notification to reduce load at 14%. TV and fan plugged. The voltage had dropped from 11.9 to 11.5v too.

I had to switch off the TV and maintained a 003% load to use 11.3v till the morning. On Monday when I got home around 6.30pm I found that it's just 12v on the controller and sure enough, after plugging the TV, it started screaming after 30 minutes.

Now my question is: is there something wrong with the setup?

I got the setup last December and I'm sure of the battery's performance with PHCN for at least 16 hours with average load. Also, my compound borders a storey building that casts a shadwo around 3.30pm so I'm sure that also counts.


Someone suggested i got an mppt controller. Help me guys. I'm fine with normal battery charge but i feel I'm not getting the best out of my solar setup.

From my personal experience bro,get yourself Mppt cc and add more pannels. Bro NEVER EVER USE PWM!!!

How can I utilize N150,000 to get something started. Even if it doesn't go into the night i.e works during day time

It won't be easy but....
Used car battery 75a = 30k or deep cycle battery 65a abt 55-70k
Used pannels 45k to 50k
Inverter of 25k 500w
Cc pwm of 10k
Wire won't be dc wire but single cord copper wire 10k depending on distance.

This is mainly for charging of phones mostly in the afternoon. My personal opinion not professional advice ooo.

Finally got sms 60a mppt charge controller and everything is now smooth,duo this one doesn't show watts coming in it show only (A). So far so good b4 10am my battery don hit 13v ND above. Na now I install solar i swear

I called my installer he said I should add more pannels,which I hv paid him to come install more 2 pannels of same 350 Canadian.

Pls guys what exactly can I do. Will Mppt cc solve this issues.? I wanted to get Mppt cc but my installer said the extra to pannels will help the situation. Pls guys I need una input.

Solar gets very costly mainly when peeps want to use power at night, meaning they have to store it. Batteries are costly. But you can enjoy solar power in day time, without heavy investment in batteries.

So if you can live with mearsly night power, you can have robust daytime power.
You need inverter and solar charge controller 100k, one or two car batteries 40k ( note you can also use a fairly old car battery, as long as it still gives 12 volts) and as many solar panels as you can get. Buy used panels. The more the solar panels, the more the power, from 10 am to 5 pm. The car battery is just to act as base for the inverter and also to even out instantaneous variation in power production due to changes in sun's intensity. It can charge you phone at night, and provide lighting, but that's it for night use.

Also, there are Chinese solar inverters that can work without batteries when the sun is reasonably bright. But they come in 2kw and 5kw capacities and would burn your whole budget.
