Politics / Osun 2018: The Choice Before Us by Princekobby: 9:12am On Sep 19, 2018
Election to decide which individual, cum political party, will pilot affairs of Osun state for the next four years comes in a matter of days. Since governance commences immediately winners are pronounced, it is important that we painstakingly consider the choices before us so that we do not have cause for regrets during the four year journey. Governance must be perceived as a business and must be undertaken with all sense of seriousness if we are to attain giant heights. We must reiterate the fact that charlatans and unserious elements must be kept farther from seats of power. Individuals or political entities who have no clear agendas only seem to make mockery of our government.

Although section 131 of the 1999 constitution of federal Republic of Nigeria allows aspirants who possess school certificate to vie for elective positions, limiting ourselves to this low will only confine us within the grasp of mediocrities. It is worrisome that a leading political party can present as flagbearer an individual with questionable secondary school certification.

The dancing senator as he popularly is called, senator Ademola Adeleke is not being scolded for finding solace in dancing alone. He has failed to itemise his developmental agenda for osun state in the simplest manners.

This reeks of gross incompetence. As a senator, he has failed to bring any meaningful development to his constituents apart from occasional monetary inducements.

The outgoing governor, ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has surpassed all expectations in terms of the giant strides he has accomplished during his 8year administration which is about to end.

This unprecedented level of development which osun currently witnesses under Ogbeni can only be sustained if the next governor is a mix of intellect and administrative experience.

As stakeholders in the osun project, now is time to rally together and make decisions for that can positively transform our dear state.
