Being doing some research on prices in Nigerian online stores for a blogpost on a website and discovered some things. In the last couple of days there has been in Vanguard, Guardian, Business Day newspapers, price comparison website TopCheck and many others the comparisons of prices amongst retail stores with all pointing to Jumia as the retailer that takes the crown. This was received with a consequent massive buzz on social media by customers with the hashtag #bestpriceonjumia which for that period trended as number 1 on social media. NOW we see competition reactively decreasing prices; all hail Jumia the fairy-tale Robin Hood of retail. According to Jonah Nwokopku, Vanguard Newspapers, “An investigation into some of the prices Jumia offers for some products showed a consistent competitive pricing with even international online retailers like Bestbuy and Amazon. Take for instance the Samsung Galaxy S5, this goes for about N119,000 on Amazon and on Jumia for N95,230”. He also said when talking about the Jumia Fashion category that “More so, in categories like fashion, their prices also beat that of their competition by at least 2 per cent. For instance, a pair of Vanessa’s secret’s shoes which cannot be found anywhere below N9,000 in other online stores is available at N6,495 on ”. Also Daniel Obi, Business Day also corroborated these facts about best prices found on Jumia not compromising on quality, “The low prices also apply not only to electronics but other products. Jumia customers attest to this. Jumia products are cheaper compared to other online stores without compromise to quality”. When it began, one would think it was another cheesy trend. But after 5 whole days of that relentless #BestPriceOnJumia twitter trend one can’t help but pause and double check. Indeed! Jumia’s price hype does measure up to reality. And going by the crazy engagement level of social fans, who aggressively tweeted favourite products they found at better prices on Jumia, it is obvious this was more than one of those calculated social campaigns, but a testament to Jumia’s commitment to actually offering highly competitive pricing. When it comes to the reasons how Jumia is able to offer best prices, these publications name different reasons. One very interesting fact is that online retailers have lower fixed costs so they can offer cheaper products to its customers. Also Jumia has been able to forge lasting and favorable partnerships with the biggest brands who are able to offer Jumia their products at reduced tariffs and sometimes even exclusively. These brands are happy and always willing to work with Jumia due to a proven track record of service delivery, customer satisfaction and guaranteed volume of sales. This leaves no doubt that the Jumia team has the best negotiators within the industry. In an exciting twist, there was a sudden drop in prices from other competing retail stores and it brings the question, is it really so easy to drop prices over-night just to compete? Did these retailers make money off the back of customers? Maybe these prices are a long-term strategy or only a quick fix reaction to Jumia’s consistent best offerings? Either way we know one thing for sure Jumia is the ‘Robin Hood’ for Nigerian customers.

…’After Goodluck Jonathan, Konga.com becomes the first verified business page in Nigeria”. Konga.com, Nigeria’s Largest Online Mall has just become the first African e-commerce and first Nigerian company to get verified by FACEBOOK. Verification of pages was introduced by Facebook in May, 2013 to help ensure brand authenticity and in a statement from Facebook on verification; “The Verified Pages are being rolled out to just a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences”. The Official Page of President Goodluck Jonathan is the only other page that is currently verified by FACEBOOK in Nigeria and Konga.com has just joined the elite list. Shopkonga, the official Facebook page of konga.com currently has over 400,000 likes and according to Social Bakers has the highest number of Nigerian fans in e-commerce across Africa. This has been achieved by exceptional user engagement, social media excellence and online customer service. Konga recently became the first ecommerce platform in Nigeria to become verified on Twitter.

ahhh..i feel bad to hear this, because i am a regular customer of konga.com and i never have problems with them, i have also introduced a couple of my friends and they haven't had any problems at all, i regularly tweet at them(@shopkonga) when i have any issues. We as Nigerians should always support our own things, and especially a company that represents excellence like konga.com. georgee: Can u imagine these KONGA guys, i ordered an Icegate washing machine and an HP Pavilion G6 laptop on wednesday(8th May). I filled out some form on their website asking when i want it delivered i chose thurs bw 3-6pm(9th May). On that Thursday, called gave dem ma order number and askn dem aw far, they said *ehn, those items ar pick-up items blah blah blah(watever dat means), that i cant get it on thursday. I can only get it sat.* I said no problem. I checked my order page and noticed my delivery date has bn shifted to sat 11th May between 12-3pm. Now today is saturday, called dem just now to knw aw far. They said *ehn, i cant get dem today, i can only get dem 2morrw sunday*. At this point, i got so pissed off and told dem to cancel my order. NaijaPlayboy: There are actually several amazing online stores in Nigeria, an example is konga.com where I regularly frequent, they are even having a special discount sale for Workers day----Yeah, Konga.com is actually a very nice store, i wonder why people dont really know it, i recently bought a shirt and belt for a party from them and got it delivered in two days, apparently they have a way to bring things sharp sharp |
I just saw this in Guardian this morning, and the prices of the goods are very cheap. This is like Amazon's textbuyit where we can buy things by sending a text message and they deliver it! Nigeria is really moving up, and this Konga guys are pioneering things similar to the telcos, MTN, GLO, ETISALAT trying to innovate to keep their customers and woo new customers No need for internet, just look at the newspaper and send the code. Now to my fellow Nairalanders Would you use the SMS2ORDER Platform?

So I love shopping online, and as I was recently shopping for groceries on konga.com, I suddenly started thinking about what would happen when I finally get married; would I still be able to shop online, or will my wife prefer to do all our shopping offline while driving down from work. I decided that this would actually be a valid question to be considered by online marketers; Who makes the shopping decisions? Or who does the actual shopping? Who do we want to make the shopping decisions? Original Post can be found HERE: http:///Znr64r Let's discuss this |

To me the number one trait i look for in a mechanic is honesty, once i find out that a mechanic has been dishonest with me even once, I ditch him! I don't really care about the cost of his services as much as i care about his level of honesty and service |
