Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Prinxcharles(m): 6:44am On Aug 17, 2022
Hello, my sister got a full tuition scholarship in the USA, however, she is required to show proof of funds of 14k USD to cover living expenses. I have my friend ready to provide an affidavit of sponsorship as well as a bank statement. There's also the option of getting POF in her naira account. She works at Access bank, with reasonable pay.

Which funding source would be best for her chances of securing a visa? A US Sponsor (Brother) or Self Sponsorship. And how many months bank statement is typically required by the US Embassy, for F1?

Hello House,
Please give me honest insights.

I started my Ph.D. this January in the US and I was hopeful my fiancee would be getting a Ph.D. admission for August, however, she was unlucky and now I'm searching for ways for her to come spend some time with me to keep the bond active.

She is currently on her Masters and also works in Lagos. But she's never traveled out of Nigeria. I would like to know what her chances are of securing a B1/B2 visa. What her *key strengths* may be in convincing the VO to accept her VISA, if she should mention or not that she intends to pursue a Ph.D. in the USA after completing her masters. I see that it's hard to get early appointment dates, but I'm willing to do it right by the first try.

In the same vein, I don't know if anyone here can provide a suggestion on quite affordable places she and I can rendezvous maybe in the summer, that would not require visa uncertainties and flights to and fro for both of us would cheap enough for me to cover.

Thank you!

So... I was lowkey hoping I got the mail. But I missed out afterall, after monitoring this thread for months since the CBT. However, I might have turned it down because I got a straight PhD (without MSc) in Chemistry in the USA, fully funded. I also believe there are several others that received and would turn it down, if only NNPC can replace them fairly, a couple of people that merit this would take the position.

To the ones left with no option, you are still champs! Never joke with self development. Take online courses, there are a handful of scholarships for the taking!

I might have missed out on the sweet NNPC oyel money but I'm definitely not missing out in receiving dollars as stipend.

My advice: When it becomes very obvious that NNPC ain't sending any more mails, MOVE ON! Remember, There's "hope" and there's "obsession/depression". Don't allow yourself to face latter.

Cheers!
