I have listen to Peter Obi - and he understands what Nigeria need economically. Nigeria if they elect old Tinubu will be remain where it is - under capture of few Dangotes - who have impoverished millions - with failed import substitutions - over-valued Naira (freely float it) with crazy arbitrage windows for the rich - and stupid fuel subsidy benefitting a tiny car owning middle class. Then of course finally dealing with electricity crisis. Then invest billions in security. Nigeria should not be spending 2B dollars on army of 300,000 soldiers.

Precisely things I have been talking about here in Nairaland for years.
1) End import substitution - allow free trade - dont enrich few manufacturers. Remove stupid import ban list/dollar support for xyz.
2) Freely float Naira - let Naira slide if it must - but have only one window for everyone. There are now four windows including black market rate double the official rate. Dangotes buy at 400 - normal Nigeria at backstreet for 800.
3) Fix electricity - by raising electricity prices and by metering to stop electricity theft - so the disco and generators get money to keep turbines turning - and fix electricity grids.
4) Fix security - by investing in police and army - welfare, and arms
5) Start investing in education & healthcare - esp in the north - make it free and complusory to go school.

4 and 5 - the money will come from ending fuel subsidy - that is 12b dollars - to be invested in security & education. Let the tiny car owning middle class cry - the gov owes the poor more in support - than middle and upper class who can stomach higher petrol prices by reducing a beer a day.

Nigeria will then emerge from the Zoo it's dug itself.
