@ Larwin Hope I did justice to your question? |

Yes. The Geotechnical report recommended a depth of 14m,....this report is always forwarded to the Structural Engineer for Structural analysis and design of the building. So ultimately the Structural Engineer will design based on the recommendations from the Geotechnical report. Let me further break it down: After soil investigation the key data to be provided by the Geotechnical engineer is as follows: 1) proposed depth of pile 2) proposed diameter of pile 3) proposed service load on pile In our own case a trial pile was done based on those recommendations, loaded,.. and result compared with the proposed service load to ascertain if there's any difference in theoretical service load provided by the Geotec and actual pile carrying capacity. Results were ok and therefore the Structural engineer proceeded to design with proposed service load. This is a very important process. Subsequently after pile installation confirmatory PLT is done on selected piles. |

Excavation and pile cropping contd...
|
More updates for this project coming tomorrow......stay tunned. Also new thread for block 2 coming |
This Project follows a standard construction ssequence and methodology. Next operation: 1) Excavation to required level 2) Blinding 3) Pile cropping preparatory to pile cap reinforcements arrangements. Pictures

Now to the PLT summary: Design servce load on pile = N340KN Geotechnical Engr tested using ultimate limit state as per the standard. A factor of 1.5 of service load. That will come to 510KN. ( as engrs we are concerned with applying factor of safety, this superceeds serviceability limit state). In a layman's terms we opt for the worst case scenario. The loading system is applied in increments of 25% at every Loading and Unloading Cycle over a period of 12hrs. Outcome : ** After PLT procedure, settlement on trial pile was far less than 10% of the nominal pile diameter. Verdit: Pile ok ** A confirmatory PLT was equally conducted which came to the same outcome. What this implies is that we have APPROVAL from the Geotechnical engr to proceed with laying of pile caps and other foundation operations. |

Pile Load Test on Block 3 trial Pile Cap In Pictures:
|
Based on the result from the PIT 2 piles was recommended for Pile Load Test. I will break down the Pile load test procedure subsequently,... let's have a look at pictures for the PLT |
Pile Integrity Test; At the completion of pile installation, PIT was conducted on all installed piles to ascertain: 1) Continuity 2) Defects such as cracks, necking and soil inclusion 3) Change in cross section 4 ) Approximate pile length
|
Pilling operation in pictures: ** Diameter of Pile = 450mm ** Depth of Pile = 14m ** Total number of piles in Block 3 = 124 2 percussion rigs was employed for block 3 averaging 4 to 6 piles daily. Duration of pilling was approximately 30days from date of commencement.

chelseamann:Thank you sir,... stay tuned. |
Design was received and approved 3 months ago Now to the action We decided to use PERCUSSION MACHINE for the PILLING operation.
