#EndSARS Curfew: NECO reschedules Oct 22, 23, 24 examinations till November

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has rescheduled its examinations scheduled for Oct. 22, 23 and 24 to November, owing to insecurity and curfew imposed by some states. Mr Azeez Sani, Head, Information and Public Relations Division (NECO) said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday. Sani said that the affected papers were now scheduled for Nov. 17, 18 and 19.

"This is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been constrained by circumstances beyond its control, to reschedule the papers meant for Thursday, Oct. 22, Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24. The affected papers are now scheduled for 17th, 18th and 19th November 2020.

"The examination time table for these papers will be made available subsequently. These changes were due to the security challenges, which led to the imposition of curfew and closure of schools by some state governments in order to safeguard lives and properties,’’ he said. Sani said that the development made it difficult for the council to move examination materials across the country.

"The Council prays that the examinations will continue on Tuesday, Oct. 27, all things being equal, with the papers as originally scheduled in the examination time table,’’ he said.

SportsAmazing! 74-year-old Egyptian Grandpa Becomes World’s Oldest Footballer by prof2007(op):
The Guinness World Records have recognised Egyptian grandfather Ezzeldin Bahader as the world’s oldest professional footballer. The 74-year-old launched his bid to break the record earlier this year, but his efforts had been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic which brought to a halt domestic football in Egypt.

In playing for local side October 6 against El Ayat Sports club in the Egyptian 3rd tier on Saturday, the veteran met the criteria required by the Guinness World Records in order to be named officially as the world’s oldest player. The septuagenarian had been required to feature in 2 professional matches in order to clinch the honour, and he originally should have broken the world record on March 21, when he would have played his 2nd match, but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented him from following up on his debut.

He missed a penalty in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat, as the record finally fell, but his performance was nonetheless cheered on enthusiastically by his extended family and grandchildren. "I dream of being able to break my own record one more time, just to make the competition a little harder," Bahader told journalists after knocking 73-year-old Israeli player Isaak Hayik off top spot.

Bahader, who turns 75 on November 5, could yet extend his record, although he’ll have to find a new employer after reportedly leaving his contract with October 6 following the match. The father of 4 joined the club in January, and made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Genius in a 3rd-division match back in March, despite picking up an injury during the contest.

"I became the oldest professional footballer scoring a goal in an official game," Bahader was quoted as saying by BBC Sport in the aftermath of the match. "This is something that was achieved in the last minute of the game that I thought I wouldn't achieve. I was injured and all what I hoped for was to continue for the full 90 minutes and play the next game."

Egypt also boasts the record of the oldest player to feature in the World Cup, with legendary goalkeeper Essam El Hadary having pipped former-record holder - Colombia’s Faryd Mondragon - when he featured for the Pharaohs at the 2018 tournament in Russia, aged 45.

InvestmentInspiration For The Week: The Man Behind Techno & Infinix In Nigeria by prof2007(op): 1:26pm On Oct 18, 2020
Founder and CEO of SLOT systems limited, Nnamdi Ezeigbo, is also the brain behind TECNO and INFINIX, the fastest selling phone brands in Nigeria. His success story is a very remarkable one. Many people may not be aware that these popular phone brands are the brainchild of a Nigerian.

Nnamdi studied Electrical Electronics Engineering at the Yaba College of Technology in 1988, and got a Higher National Diploma (HND), before doing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year at Guinness Nigeria PLC, in 1996. After completing his youth service year, Nnamdi Ezeigbo tried to no avail to secure a job with a company.

With no promising signs of any potential employment, he went to work as an apprentice learning how to repair computers. After which he launched out on his own to repair computers for individuals. Since he didn’t have any cash at the time, he had to squat with a friend of his at Ikeja, who owned a book store. His customer base grew, largely because of his honesty and the premium he placed on customer service.

The mutual trust and good relationship with his customers, was what gave him his first break in business. One day, an old customer he knew from his days as an apprentice, came to his little shop to see him. He told him he would love him to continue fixing his computers, but would prefer he operated from a larger and more serene environment. To help him out, the customer brought some printers for Nnamdi to sell, from which he used the proceeds to setup a new shop for himself. He rented the store at a then price of 180,000 Naira (He later bought that same store many years later for 100 million Naira).

From his new store, he began to sell computers. As his business grew, a lot of customers started to demand for SLOT stores in areas close to their vicinities, and to ask if they sold mobile phones. With a keen eye to spot opportunity when it presents itself, Nnamdi Ezeigbo immediately expanded his business to also cover the sale of mobile phones.

With no real knowledge on how to manage a growing business, Nnamdi decided to enrol for an MBA program at the prestigious Lagos Business School. He also began to attend many workshops on entrepreneurship, and that helped sharpen his business acumen and develop his legendary entrepreneurial prowess. During this process, he and his team decided to take a 5 year route to build a strong reputation for their brand. By the time the projection had elapsed, the SLOT brand name was the most reputable mobile phone retailer in the whole country.

The rise of telecom networks created many opportunities in the Nigerian market. Poor services caused many Nigerians to purchase more than one mobile phone, so they could try a different network when the other was bad. Nnamdi realised this problem early on, and approached Nokia in a bid to convince them to manufacture dual SIM phones for Nigerians, so they would carry only one mobile phone at a time instead of two. They refused to listen because people carrying more phones meant more sales for them.

According to his interview with Nairametrics, Nnamdi said;
"So I went to China and got a guy who had worked with a company called Bird then. Bird was into phones but got choked and lost market share. I met with the guy and asked him to let us do something. I came with the name Techno and registered it here and brought the guy to Nigeria. And that was the high point of our business. We came together and I designed the first Tecno phone, Tecno T101.

We started it but the market did not accept it and we also had problem with the dual SIM not working together and we had to make corrections and we came with Tecno 201 and that was a bit accepted by the market. But we were basically giving marketers on credit to sell the phones and then pay us later. And I was funding it all alone.

"Since I was funding it alone, we were finding it difficult to get the right quantity to sell until the market started accepting us. What I did was to make them pay in advance, I mean the dealers. So we started using their money to order the products. This was around 2007. The introduction of Tecno brand was the turning point of our business.

"Like I said, Tecno is my baby and we kept improving. I knew a day would come when the middle class would accept Tecno. Initially, it was a phone for low income people but based on improvement and upping our game, the middle class accepted it and when the economy went down in 2008 that helped Tecno to move to the top.

"Since purchasing power had dropped, people had to go for something that had same capabilities but cheaper. So with N15,000, you could buy a Smartphone and thank God for 3G network. The advent of 3G network actually helped Tecno to move up. So students who could not afford to buy phones in the range of N30,000 could buy one for N15,000 and enjoy features of Smartphone like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and so on".

Today, Nnamdi Ezeigbo is a phenomenal success story in Nigeria and indeed Africa. From a humble repair man, he has built a MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR company and one of the most recognizable brand in Nigeria.

THERE ARE MANY LESSONS IN THIS STORY:
1. Pay attention to your business. No matter how small it is today, it can be the seed of a global company tomorrow.
2. Integrity in business is extremely important; it will open doors for you and speak for you, even when you are not present.
3. When you see opportunity, grab it and run with it. Nokia refused Nnamdi’s idea, Nokia was mighty and Nnamdi was nobody, but today because Nnamdi believed in his idea and grabbed the opportunity, Tecno is everywhere, and Nokia is dead. How are the mighty fallen? Run with your idea, and this too will be your story.
4. Keep improving your products and services every day. Nnamdi Ezeigbo kept improving Tecno steadily until it became an accepted brand in Nigeria.
5. Most importantly, the greatest investment you will make is in yourself. As a business man, if you can afford a business school, enroll.
6. Don’t waste your time crying over the economy of the nation, there is nothing you can do about it, but there is a lot you can do about yourself.
7. Think positive.

Like Nnamdi you can change your world. So get up and rule your world!

InvestmentEFCC Nabs Forex Trader For Failing To Fulfil 35% Monthly ROI by prof2007(op): 8:44am On Oct 18, 2020
A foreign exchange (forex) trader based in Kano State, Mr Abubakar Ibrahim, has landed in a bowl of hot soup over his failure to keep to his words. Mr Ibrahim had promised to deliver a 30-35% monthly return on investment (ROI) to an investor, who eventually gave him N7.6 million for a try.

It was gathered that the money was given to the suspect through one of his agents, Mr Umar Kabir, and after the investment, the 30 to 35% ROI was never delivered as promised. This prompted the investor to approach the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to help him recover his hard-earned money.

According to the EFCC, which arraigned Mr Ibrahim before Justice Lewis Allagoa of the Federal High Court, sitting in Kano, on Friday, October 16, 2020, on a five-count charge of money laundering, the suspect allegedly engaged in forex trading through his Flexus Global Investment without duly registering with SCUML (acronym for Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, issued by the EFCC).

SCUML was established by the federal government in September 2005 as part of measures for implementation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations on Anti- Money Laundering/Combating the Financing. It is charged with responsibility of monitoring, supervising and regulating activities of Designated Non-Financial Institutions (DNFIs).

At the court, the EFCC informed the judge that efforts to make the suspect refund the sum invested to the complainant were futile and when the charges were read to him, he pleaded “not guilty.”

“That you, Abubakar Ibrahim (being the Managing Director of Flexus Global Investment Ltd) while acting in such capacity, sometimes in 2019 in Kano, Kano State within the jurisdiction of this court, did fail to declare the existence of your company with Special Control Unit Against Money Laundry (SCUML) before commencing business under the name Flexus Global Investment Limited and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 5(1) (a) (i) and punishable under Section 5(6) (a) & (b) of Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (As Amended),” one of the counts read.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Mr Michael Ojo, asked the court for a date to commence trial and that the accused person be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service. However, the defence counsel, H.A Hamza, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail. This bail application was granted by Justice Allagoa in the sum of N50 million with one surety in like sum.

The surety must be the owner of a landed property within Kano metropolis, which shall be verified by the registry of the court, the judge held and adjourned the case to November 19, 2020, for trial.

Government should order a proper investigation. It is possible the bridge was not appropriately designed.

Environmental topography, road gradient, visibility, poor surfacing etc might be contributory factors in the relatively frequent accidents on that bridge.

A professional evaluation/ investigation will enable the government to find a lasting solution.
