Politics2 More Lawmakers Withdraw Support For Fubara's Impeachment by 377(op): 2:08pm On Jan 14
The impeachment move against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, has suffered another setback as two more members of the State House of Assembly have withdrawn their support for the process.

They called for a peaceful resolution of the political crisis in the state.

Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made their positions known barely 48 hours after two other lawmakers announced a similar decision.

Although the legislators maintained that the Governor and his deputy may have breached constitutional provisions, they said their change of stance followed interventions by respected leaders and stakeholders who appealed for restraint in the interest of peace and stability in the State.

With the latest development, four of the 26 lawmakers who initially endorsed the notice of alleged gross misconduct have now distanced themselves from the impeachment move, signalling growing calls within the Assembly for dialogue rather than confrontation.

The Rivers State House of Assembly is expected to reconvene plenary on January 15, 2026, as attention shifts to how the leadership of the House will navigate the deepening divisions.

Earlier, the Minority Leader of the House, Sylvanus Nwankwo, representing Omuma Constituency, and Peter Abbey of Degema Constituency had announced their withdrawal from the impeachment process during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.

PoliticsHow Did Judge Nweke Lodge In Transcorp Abuja- Edison Ehie COS To Fubara by 377(op): 9:31am On Apr 01, 2025
George Nweke's Basic Salary Was Less Than 500,000, So How Did He Lodge In Transcorp Hilton? -Ehie

The Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Edison Ehie, has raised concerns over how the recently resigned Head of Service, George Nweke, could afford to stay at the high-end Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja without financial assistance from political opponents.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Ehie suggested that Nweke’s decision to turn against the governor was driven by fear of losing his position. “The real issue is contentment. George Nweke is not a contented man. He simply panicked, thinking, ‘Now that I’ve left office, what will I do? Who will support me? How will I survive?’”

Ehie questioned the financial feasibility of Nweke’s hotel stay, noting that his basic salary was under ₦500,000. “How did he afford lodging at Transcorp Hilton? These are individuals who lack integrity,” he stated.

Providing further insight into Nweke’s resignation, Ehie emphasized that the governor did not provide him with any financial support after he stepped down. “According to his messages, he resigned voluntarily. He told everyone he could not serve in a government where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was not in charge.”

Ehie concluded with a sharp critique of Nweke’s actions, stating that his lack of contentment led him to accept offers from political opponents. “Because he was complaining about financial struggles, they reached out to him. In the process, he betrayed his conscience, his family, and even his children,” he remarked.

PoliticsAmaewule Speak On Supreme Court Judgement by 377(op): 6:05am On Mar 01, 2025
"WE BELIEVE THAT GOVERNOR FUBARA WILL REPENT FROM HIS LEGION OF SINS, NOW THAT THE SUPREME COURT HAS SPOKEN" --- RIVERS ASSEMBLY SPEAKER

Basking in the euphoria of the Judgement of the Supreme Court on the protracted political crisis in the State, the Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday, at its 129th Legislative Sitting of the Second Session, applauded the Justices of the Supreme Court for their well considered judgement, which affirmed Rt. Hon Martin Chike Amaewhule as the Speaker, and other members of the Assembly as the properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.

Riding on the back of Statement by the House Leader, Hon. Major Jack, informed the House of the Judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which affirmed their legitimacy and ordered the House to resume Sitting immediately. He stated that the Supreme Court also ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant-General of the Federation to stop forthwith the release of Funds to the Rivers State Government from the Federation Account until an Appropriation Bill is presented to the Properly constituted House; adding that the purported Local Government Elections conducted in the State in October, 2024 also fell under the hammer of the Supreme Court, as the elections have been nullified.

Commenting on the development, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Martin Amaewhule described the judgement as victory for democracy and the rule of law, maintaining that the Supreme Court has proved him and other Members right when the House asserted that Governor Siminialayi Fubara was running a criminal government with persons not screened by the House, and without an Appropriation Law

"We believe that now that the Supreme Court has spoken, Governor Siminialayi Fubara would repent from his legion of sins, and those criminals, those impostors who are parading themselves as appointees of this government without the constitutional imprimatur of this House would desist forthwith", Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule enthused.

The Speaker thanked the Justices of the Supreme, Court, the political leader of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Members of the Assembly and all those who contributed in fighting for the entrenchment of democratic principles and ethos in the State.

PoliticsVatsa Wife Comments On IBB by 377(op): 5:57am On Mar 01, 2025
"When we got married, I thought IBB and my husband were of the same family.

The two wore the same size of dress and pair of shoes.

IBB would drop his dirty wear in our house and put on my husband’s. When IBB travelled out, for further military training my husband took care of Mariam and her children.

General Vatsa, apart from mounting the horse when IBB married Mariam, bought their first set of furniture from Leventis on hire purchase.

IBB was also my husband’s best man during our wedding.

We were close.” All these, to Babangida, did not count in the field of realpolitik.

PoliticsPolicemen From IGP Office Arrest Peace Corps Commandant, Akoh In Abuja, Destroy by 377(op): 12:14pm On Oct 26, 2024
SaharaReporters gathered that armed policemen invaded the Peace Corps Head Office located near Jabi Lake at about 3pm on Friday in a commando style, broke into his office and arrested him alongside 16 officers.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the arrest of the National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Dickson Akoh over dispute arising from tenancy disagreement between Akoh and his landlord.

SaharaReporters gathered that armed policemen invaded the Peace Corps Head Office located near Jabi Lake at about 3pm on Friday in a commando style, broke into his office and arrested him alongside 16 officers.

The gun trotting officers were alleged to have forcefully gained access into the premises of the building with the help of thugs and hoodlums who accompanied them, vandalised the doors, and ransacked all the offices before taking Akoh away.

SaharaReporters learnt that the officers

were sent by the Inspector-General of Police office but could not produce a warrant of arrest or detention order.

A source who spoke to SaharaReporters said Akoh was arrested at about 3pm and has been detained incommunicado since Friday over the tenancy agreement of the property located at No.57, Iya Abubakar Crescent off Alex Ekwueme Way, Abuja.

A Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) High Court sitting in Gudu had in a judgement ruled in favour of the Peace Corps when it held that the rent for the property would expire in 2025 but the landlord claimed and insisted that the rent had expired this year 2024.

Justice M.M Adamu while ruling on the case with suit No. FCT/HC/CV/913/2023.

on 27th June 2024 held that “Upon hearing the application of the learned counsel for the possession and writ of attachment executed against the Applicant on the 16th of February, 2024 is here hereby set aside.“

The policemen were accused of ordering the hoodlums to destroy any properties at site and attack officers on duty while the operation lasted.

Meanwhile the police have refused Akoh access to his family members and lawyers, the situation that has created concerns among the officers of the Corps.

A group, Youth Advancement Initiative (YAI) condemned Akoh's arrest and detention describing it as "unacceptable, illegal and unlawful."

The group therefore called for the immediate release of the Akoh adding that he had not committed any offence.

On his part, human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, while reacting to the arrest on his Facebook posts and other social media handles lambasted the Inspector General of Police for resorting to "arrest" in a landlord, tenancy civil case.

“It’s absolutely unbelievable that police officers from IGP’s office arrested Dickson Akoh over landlord and tenant dispute and have kept him incommunicado since 4pm today. Crazy things are truly happening," he said.

PoliticsPDP Faction Seeks Court Order To Hold NEC Meeting Amid Crisis With Acting Chairm by 377(op): 4:05pm On Oct 22, 2024
The move comes in direct defiance of a Federal High Court Abuja order that bars the PDP from removing its acting national chairman, Umar Damagum.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed, has initiated a legal action at the Zamfara High Court, seeking an ex-parte order to convene the party's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

The move comes in direct defiance of a Federal High Court Abuja order that bars the PDP from removing its acting national chairman, Umar Damagum.

The application, brought pursuant to various rules of the Federal High Court and the inherent jurisdiction of the court, aims to prevent any postponement of the NEC meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, 24th October 2024, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The plaintiffs are requesting an interlocutory injunction to restrain the first defendant, the PDP, and its officials from delaying the meeting pending the final resolution of the substantive suit.

In the legal motion on Tuesday, the faction insists on the exclusivity of the upcoming meeting, seeking to ensure that no other NEC meeting held on different dates is recognized as the 99th NEC Meeting of the PDP.

Additionally, they are pushing to prevent the PDP’s National Working Committee and other bodies from acknowledging the suspended National Vice Chairman for the South East Zone, Ali Odefa, as a member or officer of the party during the ongoing proceedings.

The plaintiffs emphasized that they are legitimate members of the PDP and highlighted the National Working Committee's role in the day-to-day administration of the party.

They argued that the constitution of the PDP does not grant the National Secretary the authority to exercise disciplinary control over National Officers.

The court is set to hear the motion on a date yet to be announced, which could significantly impact the internal structure of the PDP as it navigates this legal challenge.

It added, “an order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the 1st Defendant, its officers, agents, privies and/or any person or persons claiming through or under it from postponing its National Executive Committee Meeting already scheduled to hold on Thursday 24th October, 2024 at its National Secretariat, Abuja pending the final hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

“An order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the Defendants jointly and severally, their servants, agents, privies and/or any person or persons.

“An order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the National Working Committee and all other Organs of the 1st Defendant from recognizing the suspended National Vice Chairman (South East Zone), Mr. Ali Odefa as a member or National Officer of the 1st Defendant pending the final hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”
