The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said this during a live-web chat with journalists in Washington. Our correspondent monitored the web chat in Abuja. Thomas-Greenfield also said that America was not bothered that Chinese companies were fast taking over the African market from their US counterparts. President Goodluck Jonathan had on January 7, 2014 assented to the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill 2013 which criminalises homosexuality in the country. On January 14 when it became public that the President had signed the bill into law, the US, Canada and the European Union openly expressed reservations over the law. Thomas-Greenfield, who said the US had adopted the protection of the rights of same-sex people as part of its foreign policies, vowed that Washington would continue to mount and sustain pressure on Nigeria and other countries to reverse their laws against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community. She said, “As a government, it is one of the highest priorities and strongest values that discrimination against anyone based on their sexual orientation and gender identity is wrong. We believe human rights should be available to everybody. “As a policy, we will continue to press the government of Nigeria as well as other governments who have provided legislation that discriminate against the LGBT community.” Thomas-Greenfiled, who did not agree that pressuring Nigeria to reverse the anti-gay law amounted to interference, said the country and Uganda had the hardest legislation on the gay community. She said, “This is very much a work in progress, but I think you will agree with me that the law in Nigeria really went far in discriminating against this community but also people who associate with them. “So we will continue to press the government, to press the legislature to change these laws and provide human rights for all Nigerian people regardless of their sexual orientation.” She, however, did not disclose if the US would impose sanctions on the countries with anti-gay laws to achieve its objectives. Thomas-Greenfield was optimistic that the U.S would win the fight to protect the LGBT community. She said, “With what is happening in the US, you can determine how far we are willing to go. We strongly believe human rights for all people and we are particularly opposed to legislation that actually targets the gay community for discrimination. So we are prepared to push this as a policy not just in Africa but across the world.” Source http://www.naij.com/59055.html |

I went through this exact problem when i was younger, and believe me it was a very horrific experience...I took all the soft fruits and vegetables you can imagine but all to no avail. I had to carry this baggage for good 2 weeks unable to sit properly during this time. Here was what worked for me, i went to the toilet after several attempts to push it out this time with a strong determination to succeed in my last attempt. I pushed with all the strength in my being and used my hand to get a grab of the tip of the faeces, and then i bagan to pull it out gently that was how it was passed out. |

President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote yesterday said plans have been concluded to construct a gas pipeline to address power supply challenges in Lagos State. He disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the office of the Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode. He said; “We also assured him that we are going to do a Gas Pipeline from Bonny (River State) to pass under the sea (to Lagos.) When it is completed, Lagos state will never ever experience blackout. There will be electricity 24 hours a day.” Addressing newsmen after the meeting with Ambode, Dangote said they also discussed the ongoing construction of the largest fertilizer plant of two to three million tonnes of Uranium and Amonia in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Ibeju-Lekki. He noted that the company is also building ”the largest ever single refinery of 650,000 barrels per day, which is by far more than the consumption of Nigeria and that would satisfy our consumption at least for the next seven to 10 years by the time we finish.” All these projects Dangote said are no small projects. ‘’We will have challenge in getting people to work there, because at the height of it, there will be close to 38,000 people working at the same location, this is something that we have to partner with the state government. ‘’Having 38,000 people on one site, not every one of them will be from the community, others will be from other states, there would be cultural issues and all that, we need to integrate everybody to ensure that the whole thing works out fine.” He stressed that the visit afforded him the opportunity to assure the governor of his commitment to complete these ongoing projects already embarked upon by the company. The business mogul promised to continue to support the state government initiatives geared towards securing lives and properties, adding “I have assured him that we really love doing business here, it’s a friendly state for doing business.” According to him, “There are quite a lot of things that will come along with creating so many jobs. I think Lagos will be one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. ‘’ I can assure you that we would do our own bit in terms of your efforts in policing Lagos, for security and whatever the need is, feel free to call us, we would partner with you and whatever you want us to do to make Lagos a better place”. Responding, Ambode vowed to embark on strategies that would open the state for new investors, aimed at reducing the rate of unemployment in the state. He said “I will just call on other investors that wherever it is that we can assist we are willing and ready to make sure that investors have comfortable life and comfortable business profile in Lagos State.” The governor promised that his administration would open up the state to attract new investors and growth of existing business in the state, adding that the bottom line “is to create jobs for our youths.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/dangote-to-supply-24-hour-power-to-lagos/#sthash.QlrbXT4b.dpuf

We have many football clubs here in Nigeria without cash to pay players. How can the ever grow? Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has said he still wants to buy Arsenal despite failing in a 2010 bid to acquire a stake in the club. The Nigerian billionaire is now worth nearly eight times as much as when he tried to buy into the Gunners, and he has not given up on his dream of getting involved with the popular London club. In his words: “I still hope, one day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team. I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist. I know my strategy." 58yrs old Dangote, who is a passionate Gunner, told Bloomberg, “We have $16b-worth of investments in the next few years. Right now I want to take my own business to a certain level. Once I finish on that trajectory, then maybe [I will go for Arsenal].” Interestingly, Dangote has publicly stated that Arsene Wenger “needs to change his style a bit,” claiming the team “need new direction.” Dangote – valued at over US$15billion – is worth more than both Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke and Uzbek Billionaire Alisher Usmanov, who have been fighting for control at the Emirates. Will the majority owner, Kroenke, be willing to sell Arsenal to Dangote? Time will tell. http://www.naij.com/432617-dangote-declares-interest-in-buying-arsenal.html 1 Like |
