Tecno Mobile has added another variant to the Spark 8-series called Tecno Spark 8C. The handset which is modeled KG5k features a 6.6-inches screen with 720 x 1612 pixels and powered by an 8-core UNISOC CPU with up to 3GB RAM. The screen on the phone has a dewdrop notch on the head, and it supports 90Hz refresh rating.

The chipset powering the Spark 8C was not revealed by the company but according to its GeekBench listing, the phone has an 8-core UNISOC CPU at 1.61GHz, a supposed Tiger T606 SoC. This is the same Chipset on the Moto E20. Memory option on the phone includes 2/3GB RAM and 32/64-Gigs of internal ROM.

As for its optics, the Spark 8C has dual sensor on the rear; a 13-megapixel primary shooter with 77.3˚ FoV and an F/1.8 aperture, along with a secondary AI depth sensor. 4-LED flash are available on the rear, while there is single 8-megapixel selfie shooter on the front, backed by a single LED flash.

The phone also come with a fingerprint scanner on the rear, and supports dual Nano-SIM with 4G LTE network. There is a 5000mAh battery on the inside, while Google Android 11 (Go Edition) is available out of the box. Interestingly, both the RAM and external storage are expandable, thanks to the inclusion of Tecno’s Memory Fusion out of the box.

TCL Flex V is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, which was the most popular processor in mid-range smartphones in 2020. The device has a dual main camera that combines 48-megapixel and 16-megapixel sensors. A 44-megapixel sensor is used as a selfie module. The TCL Flex V is made in the same form factor as the more expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, but when folded, the gap between the halves is not so noticeable, which has a positive effect on aesthetics.

As for the main screen, we only know that the foldable panel has an aspect ratio of 22:9 and a resolution of 1080 × 2400 pixels. The refresh rate has not been disclosed, but you can hardly expect a 120Hz LTPO panel from a foldable smartphone in this price range.

A 3545 mAh battery will be responsible for autonomy. The sample shown at CES 2022 runs Android 11, however the final version will likely ship with Android 12.

Right on schedule, Samsung didn't wait long to announce something in 2022. The Galaxy S21 FE is here and it's just what we've been expecting.

Upfront the Galaxy S21 FE 5G has a 6.4-inch 2340x1080px AMOLED that runs at 120Hz with a touch sampling rate of 240Hz.

Processing is done by a Snapdragon 888, which comes with 5G capabilities.

There are four cameras on the Galaxy S21 FE 5G - a 32MP fixed-focus f/2.2 selfie shooter and a 0.5x-1x-3x combo on the rear. Those are a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide, 12MP 1/1.76-inch f/1.8 main camera with OIS, and an 8MP f/2.4 stabilized 3x tele.

The Galaxy S21 FE 5G is loaded with shooting modes - Night mode takes up to 14 images to combine into a multi-frame single image, there's Multi-camera recording that can combine the front and rear wide cameras in a single video. AI face restoration uses deep learning to enhance textures in the eyebrows and lips. And Object Eraser works just like Magic Eraser on the Pixel 6 series, allowing you to get rid of straggle objects in your images.

The S21 FE 5G is slimmer (7.9mm vs 8.4mm) and lighter (177g vs 190g) than its predecessor and comes in what Samsung calls a Contour Cut Design. What that means is that the camera bump is nicely integrated into the back cover and it's all finished in matte, which should help with fingerprints.

Inside there's a 4,500mAh battery that Samsung promises can keep things running for up to two days.

Finally, arguably the most important bit - the Galaxy S21 FE 5G will go on sale on January 11, priced €749/£699 for the 8/128GB model. It's available in four colors - White, Graphite, Lavender, and this new Olive.

BlackBerry, one of the most popular phone brands of the era before smartphones took over, has just made a new announcement. The company is finally ending its official support for all of its classic smartphone models.

The Canadian phone brand made the announcement earlier this week (Via 9To5Mac). So now, all of the company’s classic smartphones that run BlackBerry OS or BB10 OS will no longer be supported. Furthermore, the brand has even warned its customers that they will no longer receive any patches to ensure that the carrier or WiFi connection remains functional. In other words, BlackBerry smartphone users might lose calling, cellular data, SMS, and emergency service call functionality.

Although, the same does not apply to the company’s smartphone models that run the Android operating system right now, with official support for these models ending on 4th January 2022. For those unaware, the company was one of the largest brands in the market before the entry of iPhones and before Android smartphones took over the world.

Initially, veteran brands like Nokia and BlackBerry didn’t believe that a full touchscreen phone would ever have a great impact on the market. But as we can see now, devices with physical keyboards have more or less been phased out completely. So with the end of the official support for BB smartphones, we can say that this marks an end of an era. Notably, we advise that users of BB devices back up all of their data as well, and also possibly prepare to shift to another brand soon.

HONOR has scheduled an event for later today to announce the HONOR X30. Ahead of that, yet another upcoming smartphone from the brand leaks in detail. This device called HONOR Play 30 Plus 5G could either go official at the launch event today or sometime later.

The forthcoming HONOR Play 30 Plus 5G (CMA-AN00) will be a budget 5G smartphone from the brand. For the sake of a faster mobile data connection, it will come with an inferior set of specs.

The handset will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC. It will arrive in two memory configurations, such as 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB. However, TENAA suggests that there could be variants with 4GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/256GB storage as well.

OnePlus apparently has a new phone in the pipeline, which it might launch as the successor to the Nord CE smartphone. The first traces of the phone have been reportedly spotted on India’s BIS certification with the model number IV2001.

The listing doesn’t divulge details, but a known Indian tipster named Yogesh Brar on Twitter suspects it to be the Nord 2 CE. Later, the tipster managed to share key details of the device to 91Mobiles, including the price and launch timeframe.

As per the tipster, the Nord 2 CE could cost anywhere between Rs. 24,000 and Rs. 28,000 in India. The phone could go official in early 2022, possibly by the end of January or mid-February.

Oppo has teased its first foldable smartphone nearly three years after it unveiled a prototype device. The Find N looks like a device along the lines of Samsung's Galaxy Fold lineup, created after "four years of intense R& and six generations of prototypes," Oppo said in a press release. The launch is set to take place at Oppo Inno Day on December 15th.

Oppo didn't reveal any processor, display or other specs of the Find N, other than showing an image and video. It did promise a "beautiful" device that feels good in the hand, and will be simple to use in both the open and closed positions. It also said that it has solved any screen creasing and durability issues inherent in folding smartphones.

The company best known for folding smartphones is Samsung, with both the Fold and Flip devices. It took Samsung three generations to work out major kinks in the Fold lineup, but the latest Fold 3 model "still needs work," we said in our Engadget review. Oppo has played things differently by waiting to release its first model, presumably until it felt it had ironed out any major issues.

On top of the Find N, Oppo is set to reveal other products, having teased a "cutting-edge" neural processing unit (NPU) and smart glasses. The latter will presumably succeed last year's Oppo AR Glass 2021, developer-only Wayfarer-type glasses with 0.71-inch OLED panels meant to be connected to Android devices via a USB cable. It teased the new model with a "light vs. light" tagline, so they might be lightweight models aimed consumers, not just developers. We'll soon find out, as Oppo Inno Day runs from December 14-15.

Today, Honor officially held a new product launch conference and released a new flagship series – Honor 60.

The series includes two models, namely the Honor 60 and the Honor 60 Pro. Among them, the latter is the world’s first phone powered by the Snapdragon 778G Plus chip. Moreover, in comparison to the vanilla version, this model looks more stylish, has better performance, and takes more quality photos.

The Honor 60 Pro continues using the design style of the previous generation. But there are new design elements as well. It still uses the quad-curved design, which was first introduced last year by the Honor Magic. The corner transition is more rounded.

The screen size of the Honor 60 Pro is 6.78 inches. It boasts a resolution of 2652*1200 pixels, 429PPI pixel density, screen contrast of 500W:1, DCI-P3 100% wide color gamut, HDR10+ certification, 1.07 billion color display, 120Hz screen refresh rate, etc. It is really a good OLED screen.

At the same time, it also supports 4096-level hardware dimming and 1920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. They reduce flicker while ensuring the display effect. Also, the display has passed the Rheinland TUV low blue light certification.

On the opposite side, the Honor 60 Pro continues the previous ring design. But the back shell now has a brand new visual effect. It uses very complex diamond technology and polishing effects to create a unique effect.

The Honor 60 Pro sports the world’s first Snapdragon 778G Plus processor. The latter uses TSMC’s 6nm process technology. It consists of 4 A78 architecture cores, the highest frequency of which is up to 2.5GHz. it supports unique optimizations such as multiple ISPs.

At the same time, the Honor 60 Pro has also created a sub-pixel super-sensing touch experience for FPS games. It improves the direct coordination between touch and screen refresh rates. Every time the finger moves 1/8 pixel, the content of the game screen will be refreshed simultaneously.

Under the hood, the phone also carries a 4800mAh large battery. It comes with an original smart power-saving engine, which can bring a long battery life experience. At the same time, it also supports 66W wired fast charging. In effect, it will charge to 60% in 15 minutes.

The Honor 60 Pro offers two storage versions, including 8GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB. They cost 3699 yuan and 3999 yuan, respectively ($581 and $628).

It is already available for pre-order but the phone will go on sale on December 10.

As said, there was a vanilla version as well. The Honor 60 adopts a 6.67-inch OLED super-curved screen. Both front and rear panels have a symmetrical hyperboloid design with 58° curvature.

The screen of Honor 60 has a resolution of 2400*1080, supports a 120Hz dynamic intelligent refresh rate, DCI-P3 color gamut, 1.07 billion color display, etc.

In terms of photography, it comes with a 100MP ultra-clear main lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth-of-field lens. There is a 32MP AI super-sensing lens on the front.

Like the Pro variant, this one also supports “AI gesture recognition”.

Spacecraft heads off on 6.8m-mile journey to crash into moonlet Dimorphos in test to see if asteroids can be diverted from collision with Earth

A spacecraft that must ultimately crash in order to succeed lifted off late on Tuesday from California on a Nasa mission to demonstrate the world’s first planetary defence system.

Carried aboard a SpaceX-owned Falcon 9 rocket, the Dart (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) spacecraft soared into the sky at 10.21pm Pacific time from the Vandenberg US Space Force Base, about 150 miles (240km) north-west of Los Angeles.

The plan is to crash the robot spacecraft into the moonlet Dimorphos at 15,000mph (24,100km/h) and change its path by a fraction. If the mission is successful, it will mean that Nasa and other space agencies could deflect an asteroid heading towards Earth and avert an Armageddon-style impact.

The Dart payload, about the size of a small car, was released from the booster minutes after launch to begin its 10-month journey into deep space, some 6.8 million miles (11 km) from Earth.

Once there Dart will test its ability to alter an asteroid’s trajectory with sheer kinetic force. Cameras mounted on the impactor and on a briefcase-sized mini-spacecraft to be released from Dart about 10 days beforehand will record the collision and beam images of it back to Earth.

The asteroid being targeted by Dart poses no actual threat and is tiny compared with the cataclysmic Chicxulub asteroid that struck Earth 66m years ago, leading to extinction of the dinosaurs. But scientists say smaller asteroids are far more common and pose a greater theoretical danger in the near term.

The team behind Dart chose the Didymos system because its relative proximity to Earth and dual-asteroid configuration make it ideal for observing the results of the impact.

The blast-off was shown live on Nasa TV and on the SpaceX Twitter account.

It is the latest of several Nasa missions in recent years to explore and interact with asteroids, primordial rocky remnants from the solar system’s formation 4.6bn years ago.

Last month, Nasa launched a probe on a voyage to the Trojan asteroid clusters orbiting near Jupiter, while the grab-and-go spacecraft Osiris-Rex is on its way back to Earth with a sample collected in October last year from the asteroid Bennu.

The Dimorphos moonlet is one of the smallest astronomical objects to receive a permanent name and is one of 27,500 known near-Earth asteroids of all sizes tracked by Nasa.

Nasa has put the entire cost of the Dart project at $330m, well below that of many of the space agency’s most ambitious science missions.

Recently, MediaTek held its annual executive summit where the company announced its latest flagship processor, Dimensity 9000. This processor breaks the limit of smartphone processors in the Android camp. This chip comes with at least ten world’s first including the world’s first 4nm processor. Furthermore, this flagship processor is also the first chip to exceed 1 million points on AnTuTu. In addition to this ultra-high-spec flagship processor, MediaTek has also prepared a sub-flagship processor to further consolidate MediaTek’s mid-range mobile phone SoC market. This chip is the Dimensity 7000 which should launch next year.

According to popular Weibo tech blogger, @DCS, MediaTek will launch a sub-flagship processor that uses TSMC’s 5nm process next year. The engineering model of this processor has a running score of about 750,000 points. This means that the performance of this chip is better than the Snapdragon 870 but lower than the Snapdragon 888. The Snapdragon 870 is widely considered a flagship processor because it is above the mid-range class. However, this chip can be best described as a pseudo flagship processor. The industry expects a lot from the Dimensity 7000 since it claims to be better than the SD870.

Using TSMC technology and the latest ARM architecture, we hope that the Dimensity 7000 can bring good power consumption control. According to reports, this 5nm processor will use the same 8-core architecture as Dimensity 9000. As of now, the details of this processor such as CPU and GPU are not available. However, if its AnTuTu score can hit 750k, then it must be at the flagship level in terms of performance.

Past experiences show that MediaTek’s sub-flagship chips are generally for low-end models of around 2,000 yuan ($313). The positioning of the Dimensity 7000 should reduce the purchase threshold of high-performance mobile phones. There are also expectations that this chip will be a “new generation god chip” in the mid-to-high-end market.

Not long ago, Qualcomm released four low-end SoCs in one go, namely Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G, 695 5G, 480 Plus 5G, and 680 4G. These low-end SoCs will probably be available in the fourth quarter of this year at the earliest. Manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Redmi, and Oppo will be the first to use them. Qualcomm’s move was interpreted as to counter MediaTek and regain its status as the world’s number one mobile phone SoC manufacturer.

In response, the Dimensity 7000 processor launched by MediaTek will also be commercially available in the first quarter of next year. This will undoubtedly further consolidate its position in the low-end mobile phone SoC market.
