MrGerald:
Don't forget it's same OUK that fought OBJ to standstill? You can't buy Igbo with money.

Education › Re: University Of Gambia Renames Faculty After Akinwumi Adesina by prophetwis: 10:22am On Jan 05
You pay implicit tax rate as a result of the failure of the government to provide the basics,if you go further on where he emphasized on the issue of African countries re -basing their the GDPs and the nature services that were brought in,juxtapose with his arguments with the implicit tax rates, you will understand that was was talking about includes what you refer as conventional tax rates.
nairalanda1:
Okay, let's break what he said down

Okay, here is where you are right..

In other words, conventional, or proper taxation, which is what I am referring to, is low.

.

“

The above is largely because we don't pay enough conventional tax, AND also, in the case of electricity, because most of us underpay and don't pay for power, so the electric companies don't have enough cash to pay for good enough power supply.

The rest is due to low conventional tax rates(only ten million nigerians overall pay conventional tax...), low revenues from oil(oil money, even if we remove corruption , has never been enough, even if we reach tinubu's promised 4million bpd..we need somehting like 20-30million bpd), massive corruption(which this government hasn't dealt with, and before you accuse me of defending corruption...and again, it makes our funding worse), and bad government. ANd decisions like ending tolling of roads...which reduced governemt income there for road funding...and so forth.

Our tax to gdp is 13%. We need it to be as high as 25% before we can talk. We also need to diversify our income sources and so forth.

This is not excusing any government, just showing even that government under tinubu is not very good at raising money,...even the tax they are doing doesn't go far enough, and is being done because oil revneues have bene chronically low for over 10 years, and IMF won't lend us more money again.

But your comment mixes up conventional tax with implicit tax. DIfferent things entirely.
Education › Re: University Of Gambia Renames Faculty After Akinwumi Adesina by prophetwis: 9:54am On Jan 05
Maybe you need to go and listen to Adeshina's speach before leaving office, one of the things he harped on,was that Africa pays the highest implicit tax rate in the world(85%) and need not to tax their people further ,rather improve Government efficiency.
nairalanda1:
If they appointed Adesina as president, he would do more than remove subsides on petrol, even subsidies on electiricty would go AND there would be massive cuts in the civil service and an even wider ranging tax law , more wide ranging than tinubu's own, and also cashless policy would be ruthlessly ensured. And nothing like cheap universites again...and absolute meritrocracy would be introduced...and it won't just be hausas affected by the way.

Something you should realize about Adeshina and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is that they are proper economists, not politicans. And proper economists take hard decisions most people don't like. If GEJ had followed Adeshina, NOI and SLS to the letter in 2012, by now you would be calling them wicked and evil people.
Politics › Re: Presidency Clarifies Controversy Over Alleged Discrepancies In Tax Laws by prophetwis: 10:34am On Dec 22, 2025
They have already rubbished it.Think of the Sup cop Kyari and what the politicians did to him, and you will understand the trajectory Taiwo is on.
Focusmind:
Chei, Taiwo fall hand, big time - He should not allow politicians to rubbish his professional career. undecided

I believe that the insertion of that 20% deposit on disputed assessment was done on purpose. FIRS have been looking for ways to make their decisions final and conclusive in any assessment without the opportunity of the tax payer making recourse to the court for adjudication. How can you tell me or my company to deposit 20% of assessment you did on my income, first, before I begin to challenge it?

This is highly commendable of UNN to still have records even in a non digital age. The Minister should apologise and resign from his office and face prosecution for forgery and perjury.

Obviously his political career is over.
