AZeD1: I know Customs aren't telling the whole truth, neither is Reno. They are both playing politics.
My grouse with Reno is for calling them liars which isn't entirely true. End of story. Only the gullible will take the govt side hook, line and sinker without probing further. |

AZeD1: Revenue increased but value decreased we agree on that.
Customs said revenue increased not value increased so saying that they lied is wrong because they didn't.
Data doesn't lie, but it doesn't mean its telling the truth.
I am against RENO for calling customs liars because they didn't lie. Reno is playing politics with the issue and he should bold enough to tell his followers that. The government too is playing propaganda politics. It's not enough to tell us they've increased the revenue, they should go a step further to tell us how they achieved such. |

jjman2322: So many variables.. If you spend in dollars then no,
If you spend in Naira, you are collecting less Naira for your dollar, but it also depends, what can you buy for the same 3k? Is your purchasing power the same? Inflation makes a big difference...
In 1980 you could buy a ticket to america for N2000. Now its N300,000.. Inflation/exchange rate makes a difference..
I dont know why this is so difficult for you to grasp.. Its propaganda.. There is way less cargo passing through our ports now due to the economy.. Customs is reporting more money because the people who are bringing in cargo are now paying MORE MONEY for duty... Duty that was 5m is now 8m.. So customs shouldnt be proud.. they havent done anything..
What we are all saying is customs published an increase in revenue to fool the masses.. They wrote it as a pride article, like they have accomplished something, meanwhile they should be ashamed that there's way less goods flowing through our ports.. They are just collecting more money from less people..
Its like bragging about your company making N1bn extra revenue, meanwhile your profit went down 50%.. thats stupid.. Thank you, the money spent on your education is justified, |

Data doesn't lie, but it doesn't mean its telling the truth. Good that you agreed now that they are not telling the whole truth, also if you place things in proper and actual perceptive, you will agree that the figures they quoted didn't tell the whole story in regard to the exchange rate they applied to generate the revenue. |

AZeD1: I live in Nigeria but work for a foreign company, my salary a month is 3k USD, when the exchange was above N400 i was making about 2M monthly, now that the exchange rate has dropped to N360 i make less than 2M monthly, would you say my salary was reduced? If tomorrow, the exchange rate goes up to 600/USD (God forbids) and the Naira value of your salary jumped to N6M, would you claim you have an increased salary? |
Business › Re: Customs Is Dishonest About N486bn Revenue - Omokri by ProWalker: 2:27pm On Jul 27, 2017 |
AZeD1: You can say the value did not increase and you will be right but in Naira terms the revenue for this was greater than what customs have ever generated. We are still saying the same thing. Assuming the Exchange rate stands at the N199/USD as it was previously pre-Buhari government, it will have resulted in a decrease in Naira term also. We should learn to look beyond what the politicians tell us, it's just like Okonjo re-basing the economy and then telling us how Nigeria economy was now the biggest in Africa which was a clear lie. |

AZeD1: Mr Reno the official currency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is Naira why are you converting to Dollars? You don't know what you are talking about. Most imports are denominated in Dollars. They are converted to Naira using a rate of USD/Naira. It is this increase rate from 201/USD to 315/USD that have increased this revenue claimed by NCS. In actual terms, there is simply no increase but a decrease. Reno just echoed the same thing I said in the first thread about this phantom increased revenue. ProWalker: There is no magic to what led to the increase.
I will explain what occurred. They were initially assessing FOB using the CBN rate of N200/USD but then changed to the inter bank rate that floats between 305/USD to 315/USD, an increase of over 50%.
In practical terms 385B to 486b, is just a 26% increase. What this means is that there is a huge reduction in cargo incoming due to forex restrictions on some 41 items.
So they have done nothing really for the increase except to increase the assessment rate of Naira/USD of FOB and freight.
Truth is if you look at the two periods in USD term, there would have been a reduction rather that increase they are talking about. |

Warship: [s]It is a common knowledge that the lands of the following ethnic groups;
Ijaws Urhobos Ishekiris Ogonis Annangs Ibibios Orons Efiks Isokos And Igbos
Are rich in oil and gas which generates the dollars that enable Nigerians to acquire foreign products and sustain the affluence of Nigerians including Dangote who is able to build factories all over Africa because of these oil dollars.
I think it will be good to know what resources is exported from Yoruba land that generate dollars for Nigeria.
This will help to eradicate the fear some have about Restructuring rendering their regions poor.
I will like this topic to be devoid of tribalism and hate
The aim is of this thread is to help each ethnic group realize that they are blessed with something that can sustain them if Nigeria becomes a Confederal or True Federal State that has a weak center and strong ethnic economical units.
I will like this topic to be devoid of tribalism and hate[/s] The problem with you is that you can't think beyond our oyel level You are nothing but an illiterate . |

A whopping 100 billion was made within 6 months, that is why they don't want the man to succeed , half of the money would have gone to individuals pocket. The best way to silence critics is performance , if he likes he should put on Boxers and Tee shirt to work. Nigeria is blessed with opportunities and resources but corruption is the other of the day. Even with the drop in Volume of importation they could achieve this feat is something to be proud of. i hope the excess money can be put to good use. There is no magic to what led to the increase. APCLyingBastard: Tinubu has already sold the VP to El Rufai.
I knew this when I saw el Rufai appear in person in court in a civil suit he instigated against an online news outfit. El Rufai just used his appearance at a lagos High Court as a smokescreen to go meet and negotiate the VP vacancy with Tinubu.
But what the useless Tinubu doesn't know is that El Rufai will deal mercilessly with him when he gets to be appointed VP in order to pave way for his own presidential ambition come 2019.
As for El Rufai, his jihadist dream of becoming president will never be fulfilled even if the idiocrats of the waste land obey their frog master vagabond to vote him in, the middle belt, SS, SE and Northern Christians will never vote that midget.
But all these are conjectures as I know the Senate under Saraki will not fold their hands and watch El Rufai ascend to such high position. Osunbade will be rightly removed before he dares allow Tinubu impose El Rufai as his VP. Bishopjuice, you are a typical coward that only come to annonymous forum like NL to write nothing but trash. I don't see your kind or Twitter or any forum where identity can easliy be verified Coward Bishop |
