Just discovered that it has previously been used by Puyol, Iniesta, Yaya Toure and Mathieu. Seems Mathieu is the only curse on that number.

Thanks Bartomeu..... This squad will rip La liga....
I say a big no to Paulinho. That guy will be completely anonymous in the midfield. He will abandon his midfield duty and rush forward plus he is not good defensively. Rakitic will be farbetter in that role except you don't want us to defend at all.

cheesy Dembele, Coutinho, and Paulinho all brought by
Barcelona to replace Neymar.
What does Paulinho and Coutinho has to do with Neymar? Dembele alone was the replacement for Neymar. Coutinho and Paulinho are clearly midfield reinforcement which has been needed for a while although I don't like the Paulinho purchase.

You are calling Suarez that Was single handedly carrying Liverpool to win league, won golden boot and European golded boot. weh done sir. Countinho is not world class ha beg. He has done nothing of note in England.
But did Liverpool eventually win the league? Besides, Coutinho was also crucial to their charge though not as crucial as Suarez definitely. Tell me, how many midfielders have all Coutinho skillset? Debruyne has great as he is has the outside shot, free kick ability and passing ability but lack his dribbling ability. Or, is Debruyne not worldclass? Just as Kane is now a world class striker and far better than many strikers today but has no trophies to show for it. No worries, Coutinho will make you eat your words soon.

Sell gomes and Arda, buy an average defender, coutinho and ozil....after this no signing again...we should develop our youths and slowly i repeat slowly integrate them into the first team...we will win d UCL twice in 4 years
Lol. And you want youth development by buying two players for the same position? Coutinho is enough. I can't stomach seeing that lazy Ozil disappearing in big matches which is his trademark plus in a squad that Messi doesn't press regularly, can't afford to make them two by bringing in Ozil. But I agree with trusting our youths starting with recalling Samper and moving Roberto to midfield permanently.

Countinho proven world class player..... bros how. How many trophies or awards does he have. una ehnnnn nor be only world class Na world glass
Being worldclass has nothing to do with number of titles won. After all, its a team sport and the best teams usually win. You can't say that about Liverpool. By your logic, Suarez was not worldclass when we bought him since he too won nothing in Liverpool. Right? And yes, Coutinho is worldclass. His football speaks for him and he is clearly ahead of all our current midfielders at their best except for Iniesta and Busquet.

I kinda love the squad we are building up.

The future is most definitely bright.

Youngstars everywhere I look.

All below 25.

Yeri Mina. Dembele. Umtiti. Semedo. Roberto. Dennis Suarez. Digne. Deulofeu. COUTINHO.

And of course Lionel Messi who is 30 but still 25 in his heart and in his legs.

It is we who have got the future that madrid think they have.
I don't see a future for Denis, Deulofeu and Digne here.

Looks like Yerry Mina to Barca is done. I hope he proves me wrong cause I'm skeptical due to some of his weakness. All in all, I hope he succeeds. Thank heavens he is cheap unlike expensive flops like Gomes and Arda.

Then he surely wants something, because I don't see why a player should be fighting to go to China in a Worldcup year. Yes he might want to go there because he would get more play time, but.....

Is there anything like a 6 months contract? grin let them just give him an improved 6 months contract, with increased play time. Besides now that Umtiti is injured, he is supposed to be the one taking his spot, but he also got injured after Iwobi worked on his waist grin
Its about play time and not been able to give everything like before due to age while still wanting to play regularly. Just had timing.

Özil available for 20million or less.
Ozil, another short term fix. Will probably last 2-3 seasons. Lets not forget how he tends to disappear in big matches plus his irritating laziness, never pressing or tracking back. Sorry, I will pick Coutinho over Ozil any day.

Who was deulofeu going to bench at the time Neymar? Messi? If we had left him here his development will have been severely stalled and he will have pushed for a move.
Deulofeu was never a model player since his last masia days, always arrogant, a ball hog, not willing to track back and always making shitty decisions but was a super dribbler then, not the kick and run he does now. Deulofeu, like any other forwards knew they couldn't bench MSN so, that's not an excuse. Besides, he is not snagged to stay if he is not happy. He should have been loaned to a technical team but he himself insisted on Everton so, he started his downfall. Munir had a great preseason and it was so obvious he had improved but what did the board do? They spent like 40m on Alcacer. Tell me, is Alcacer 40m better than Munir? And what exactly has he done to justify his price tag? Adama Traore could have been kept and trained and today, could have been the master on the right wing. Just like Deulofeu, he is a ball hog and has poor decision making but is more hardworking, a far better dribble and a lot faster plus he isnt arrogant like Deulofeu. We could have made him a better player. Lets not forget how Lucho treated Grimaldi too.
So you see, many opportunities, talents and money wasted all because we couldn't keep trusting our academy.

Don't be so sure his preferred position may not necessarily be his best.
IIRC we played something close to counter attacking football durinh LE's tenure busquets thrived then.

Remember Bojan touted to be better than messi where is he now? His development was stalled because he was pushed to the first team to early.

Tell me if samper was here after he has been trained under busquets like you said will he still be here he is 22 now busquets is 29(he still has about 5 years left in him) will samper still stay and play second fiddle? Not all players are as loyal as roberto
True, not all top youngster go on to reach their potential. G. dos santos is a good example but
that doesn't mean they can't turn out decent. In a club with an academy like ours, we should only be buying for positions our youths can't fill. Our squad players should be made up of academy products. Not expensive flops like Arda, Gomes or expensive oldies like Paulinho or people like Alcacer who couldn't even challenge Suarez during his slump. Most of our youngsters that go on loan flop because they are in a team playing strangely compared to what they had played all their lives. Samper bossed Valencia last night playing as the controller cause their new coach loves possession football and used him unlike his former coaches. And yes, Samper rejected Arsenal at a time that Bellerin jumped ship and has always maintained that he wants to succeed with Barca so, he won't have mind been a backup to Busquet plus he may have been converted to a controller cause he has all the traits.

Nobody is saying anything about Mascherano to China stories here. I feel it's disrespectful to let such a player leave during the winter market. At least they should persuade him to stay till the end of the season and give him a proper send-off.
He is the one pushing to leave. And he is disrupting the clubs plans in the process cause the plan was to replace him in the summer. So, their is nothing disrespectful on the part of the club.

How many of our graduates have lived up to their hype? Deulofeu? Tello? Cuenca? Halilovic? Samper? The sooner we realize that xavi, iniesta, messi, puyol, busquets are once in a generation players and we have to keep buying to be able to compete the better for us.
You are forgetting that Xavi and Iniesta did not become instant hit. It took them years with the first team before they became whov they are today. We are not giving our quality youths enough chances. We want other clubs to develop them for us instead of training them our own way. Many complained when Pep benched Yaya for unknown Busquet, Sergi Roberto was almost sold after 2 seasons of constant insults and claims of "he is not good enough". Samper could have deputized for Busquet and learned but we keep loaning him to relegation battling counter attacking teams. Tell me if almighty Busquet will thrive in such set up. Hallilovic too was a very technical player and should have been allowed to train and develop here. Instead, we fill the team with average buys and have no room for homegrown players again. If not, Roberto should be in midfield and we shouldn't have Arda or Gomes, both are clearly below Roberto in terms of quality but we have to play Roberto outside his best position just to accomodate some average players.

But, instead of disturbing ourselves with this coutinho issue can't we just go 4 thiago instead, i think he's a better option 4 our midfield. If rafinha comes back and turns out to be as good, it will be very nice to c d alcantara brothers bossing the midfield....
Thiago has said repeatedly that he is not coming back. Besides, he is too injury prone.

Newbie to this Barca thread. First and foremost, wish you all a happy new year.
*On Coutinho, when the saga initially started last season, i was against it not because he is not good, far from it cause he will be among our best 3 midfielders along with Busquet and Iniesta, all worldclass. What i wanted was a controlling midfielder like Verratti then, someone to bench Rakitic for good. But seeing as we have been signing shit midfielders over the years (Turan, Gomes and to some extent Paulinho, yes, he is not worldclass but atleast useful unlike the previous two), i decided i will be alright with Coutinho been worldclass and will help with creativity which has disappeared in our midfield except through Iniesta sometimes. Besides, we can just make Iniesta our controller and Coutinho AM. Latest reports has his cost at 120 + 40m which is excessive but not bad. Time to pay good morning for quality instead of overpaying for average players which are now too much in our squad.
*On Mina, have seen many of his clips and each time ended up disappointed. His only real positives are height, good aerially and passing. He is very slow (slower than Pique) and lets recall we play a highline at the back and we know what speedsters do to Pique regularly. Mina also gets beaten regularly. He may be cheap but still has to adapt and we know how long that can take in a team like ours. It may affect us in the champions league. Why not just recall Marlon from loan? He has been with us for sometime, did well whenever used last season, has good qualities and has been a starter in Nice since he joined. Vermalean become 3rd choice and Marlon 4th. That way, when Vermalean leaves in the summer, we can just go for Ajax's De Ligt.
*Lastly on Arthur; I think 50m is too much for him. Sincerely speaking, i dont see what he does that someone like Samper can't be trained to do. Some players skillsets fits possession teams like ours alone. Guardiola, Xavi, Busquet and Samper are all similar types of footballers. Pep and Xavi were nearly sold if not that Cruyff, Van Gaal and Pep discovered them and stuck to them. Had Pep been our coach when Samper came of age, he would have promoted and developed him by now. Arthur is nothing exceptional. He has no super vision, Fabregaslike passing. Everything he does can be done by Samper. Imagine someone like Busquet been our controlling midfielder? Samper plays like Busquet. Just need some finetuning and directions. We need to start trusting our youths again. Alena should also be given a chance.

I think Iniesta will be playing as a controlling midfielder this coming season.
I hope so too cause only Iniesta and Busquet and maybe Samper can play as a controller. Besides, for the amount being quoted for Coutinho, he has to be playing regularly which may relegate Iniesta to the bench.

Yes, it's the 4th signing for the spanish champion and it's another 22-year old. And this time, his name is Andre Gomes of Valencia & Portugal for €35m plus Martin Montoya. Report has it that Real Madrid had the deal done around 10.30pm but Barcelona hijacked the deal by 11pm with the player making a U-turn. The versatile midfielder played a crucial role in Portugal's shocking victorious campaign at the Euros.
Expect one more signing from Barca as they are still in search of a forward.

Sports / BREAKING: Barca Make Their 3rd Summer Signing by Psalmueldo(m): 5:22pm On Jul 12, 2016
FC Barcelona has signed another player in the ongoing transfer window in the person of 22-year old Lucas Digne from PSG for a fee in the region of €20m. The French international is a left back by trade but is also comfortable in midfield. Great in aerial duel, shortpassing & attacking with a key weakness being his crossing. This transfer is Barca's 3rd after the successful capture of Denis Suarez & Samuel Umtiti. More information will follow.

Sports / La Liga Or EPL- Which Is The Best League? by Psalmueldo(m): 1:23pm On May 20, 2016
If there was a subject with unending debate among supporters apart from Messi-Ronaldo debate, it is definately this one. EPL is the oldest league in the world as it started in 1888 while La Liga started in 1929. There were times in the past when the Brazilian league & Serie A were said to be the best league. But, we are now in an era dominated by EPL & La Liga. Both leagues have grown over the years and have become the best two leagues in the world. But, which is better?
La Liga stands in 1st place on the IFFS league ranking whth 7842 points with EPL in 2nd with 6020 points & Bundesliga in 3rd with 4320 points. But, EPL faithfuls refuse to accept that La Liga is the best. Their default claim is that EPL is the most competitive forgetting that Manchester United have dominated the league since the 90s until two seasons ago. Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher said in 2014 that the press has brainwashed people into believing that EPL is the best league whereas, it is actually the best brand. NPFL is competitive but is definately not the best in Africa. If you define better as being most competitive then, between 2004 & 2016, only Man U, Man City, Chelsea & Arsenal have won the league with Leicester joining them this season while Real, Atletico, Barca & Valencia have the La Liga in the same time frame. Also, if better means performing better, btw that same period, La Liga has won 14 titles in Europe (including this season's Champions league & Europa) compared to EPL's 4 titles.
The dominance of the two superteams in Spain has overshadowed absolutely incredible dominance of the league. Sevilla, Atletico, Valencia, Athletic & Villareal are having amazing records in Europe. La Liga's dominance also coincided with Spain's unprecedented run internationally be it senior or youth tournaments.
Most of EPL's best are La Liga rejects and/or fringe players like Aguerro, Sanchez, Ozil, Silva, Mata, Costa, Otamendi, Arteta, Torres at Liverpool, Yaya, Fabregas, De gea, etc. Ofcourse, some ex EPL players are shining in La Liga but, they were the best in England before they left. Modric, Ronaldo, Suarez & Bale. Others have been useless.
In summary, EPL has more popularity, money & intra-competitiveness while La Liga provides better quality of football, higher quality of players, more European success, better youth setup, intra & inter competitiveness. Upon all the talk about how strong Barca & Real are, they have never won the league unbeaten whereas, Arsenal has done it in the supposed stronger league. Who is kidding who? Are the smaller EPL teams catching up or the big teams are dwindling?
There is more to football than just physical play or playing kick and run or having unlimited money. Relegated Newcastle & Norwich earn more than Sevilla but what is the result? Only Southampton, Arsenal & Tottenham to a lesser extent give chance to youths consistently. Others are more interested in buying foreigners which is improving EPL's brand but affecting the national team.
In the end, it's about preference. If you want quality & technical football then, La Liga is for you but if you want physical & aggressive football with low quality, Epl is for you. I'm hoping for a Sevilla-Leceister match in the champions league next season to tweet ''And right there Coke demostrated why you should not Drinkwater''
