Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been crowned the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year. The Egyptian forward beat off competition from Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Manchester United’s David de Gea and Manchester City duo Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva to scoop the prestigious award in a vote by his fellow players. Sane won the young player of the year award. The award tops a stellar first year for the Egyptian, who joined Liverpool for £34m from Roma in the summer. Salah has scored an incredible 31 goals in 33 league games in his first year for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side and currently leads the race for the Golden Boot. His goals and dynamic forward play have also propelled Liverpool to the last four of the Champions League. Salah’s 31st league goal against West Brom on Saturday took him level with Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez, equalling the record for a 38-game season with three games remaining. Salah earned the praise of Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp, whose congratulatory message appeared on a big screen at the ceremony. “Congratulations. Really rare in football that you win as an individual, but this team lifts from personality, players and I am really happy to be “your manager over the past year,” said Klopp. “This award is an unbelievable honour for you and your family to be proud of. “We have had a great ride so far, but we have few more yards to go. “Now please, grab the trophy and come home… we play on Tuesday!”

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly scored a last-gasp goal to keep his side’s title hopes alive as they earned a vital a 1-0 win at Juventus to close the gap to just one point at the top of Serie A. Senegal star Koulibaly headed the winner from a Jose Callejon corner in the final minute to give Napoli a first ever win at the Allianz Stadium. Six-time defending champions Juventus’ lead at the top of the table has been cut to just one point with four games left. The closest Juve came to a goal was in the first half when Miralem Pjanic hit the woodwork with a deflected free-kick. It was a third defeat of the season for Juve and their first since November. Napoli are looking for a third ever league title and their first since 1989-90 when Diego Maradona was in their side.

English Premier League champions Manchester City were once again in imperious mood as they routed struggling Swansea City 5-0 in Sunday's Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City 5 Swansea City 0 David Silva gets first Sterling adds second De Bruyne smashes home third Bernardo Silva nets fourth and Jesus gets number five Match report The Citizens were 2-0 up inside 20 minutes through David Silva and Raheem Sterling as they completely dominated the first half. In the second stanza Kevin De Bruyne scored a rocket before Bernardo Silva scored from a rebound after Gabriel Jesus saw his penalty saved by Lukasz Fabianski. Jesus then added a late fifth with his head. Match report Manchester City took full control of the game from the first whistle and it appeared it would only be a matter of time before the first goal arrived. It duly did in the 12th minute after more brilliant link-up play from the English Premier League champions. Bruyne fed Sterling inside the box, and he pulled it back to the onrushing Silva. The Spain wizard took a touch before volleying superbly into the corner beyond Fabianski. It appeared it may turn into a rout for the Citizens should they feel up for the challenge four minutes later. When left-back Fabian Delph played a sharp one-two with Silva to beat the offside trap and get clear down the flank, his accurate cross meant Sterling had the easiest of finishes with a tap-in to score his 18th league goal. The visitors to the Etihad were offering very little in attack and could barely get on the ball to make anything happen. As such, in the 33rd minute it was nearly 3-0 as De Bruyne showed quick feet to switch the ball to his left-foot, before unleashing a powerful drive which Fabianski saved well. The rebound from Sterling was again saved by the goalkeeper though it would not have counted anyway due to offside. Alfie Mawson did force Ederson into a save but it was a tame effort from distance just before the break. After the interval, the demolition continued as De Bruyne added another stunning strike from distance to his catalogue of long-range goals. In the 54th minute he found space from just outside the area before crashing home a shot which gave the keeper no chance. Mawson nearly pulled one back but missed a free header at the far post which he sent over the crossbar. Nonetheless, the relentless assault led to a fourth goal for City after Sterling was hauled down in the box by Federico Fernández. Jesus saw his penalty saved by Fabianski, though Silva tapped in the rebound. In the closing stages teenage substitute Phil Foden set up Jesus, though the Brazil striker missed a sitter as he sent a header straight at the keeper. Captain Vincent Kompany also nodded just wide though Jesus got a late fifth as he headed home from a stunning Yaya Toure assist.

It is fast becoming a norm for National Youth Service Corp members to romantically get involved with themselves with the one year period. This happened in Ibadan, Oyo State while Nigerian tertiary institution graduates assembled to mark the end of their NYSC programme tagged Passing Out Parade, POP. A young man seized the opportunity to propose marriage to his lover who accepted in the midst of her colleagues. This caused a massive attention with colleagues flipping out their phones to snap them.

Big Brother Naija housemates have unanimously chosen Nina as the new Head of House for the final week. There was a twist on Monday in the Head of House challenge. Unlike going into the arena and playing a game of chance, Big Brother asked the housemates to choose from either a housemate who has either had the least opportunity or the most experience in leading the House. Miracle had put Cee-C’s name up, trying to be fair towards everyone, Alex disputed it and suggested it be put to a vote. Cee-C, who has never had the opportunity to be Head of House, missed out on the opportunity when they decided to vote on it. The housemates voted and Nina emerged Head of House for the final week.

The Red Devils look likely to secure a top-four finish but couldn't run champions City close. Who are the top three stars of their 2017-18 campaign? Manchester City claimed the Premier League title on Sunday, but perhaps it said much about Manchester United's campaign that it was the Red Devils' defeat to West Bromwich Albion which clinched the trophy for Pep Guardiola's side. United's season has been a case of nearlies. They have beaten every other team in the league, and had seemingly thrown a late curveball in City's title procession by coming from two down to win 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium last week only to then undo their good work against the Baggies. Jose Mourinho has cut a bemused manager at times, but he was identified by many as the reason for his side's exit from the Champions League to Sevilla in the round of 16 in March. On the pitch, there may have been a number of players that have frustrated but there have also been some stand-out stars. Paul Pogba might have gone off the boil lately, but before the New Year he was fantastic. His performances against the likes of Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal were among the individual highlights of United's 2017-18, while Nemanja Matic's impact in the early part of the campaign gave United a new dimension. Ashley Young has surprisingly made the left-back spot his own with his consistency, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have gone through phases of excellence too. However, Goal has selected United's top three performers of the 2017-18 season and, given there were some incredibly close calls, feel free to join the debate in the comment box at the bottom of the page! 3. JESSE LINGARD "He could have played in my era... In my Man Utd team," said Rio Ferdinand of Jesse Lingard recently. "He's that good, he would have been a player so involved in that team." Lingard has taken his game to another level at times this term, and has been United's best No.10 for long spells. Having become a figure of fun in some parts since his promotion to the first team, his performances in 2017-18 have made him one of United's most irreplaceable players. Doubles against Swansea City, Arsenal and Burnley came during a spell towards the turn of the year which exemplified his staggering rise. Such were his performances at that time that the writing was on the wall for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who had started the season as the first choice in the 10 position behind Romelu Lukaku before he was shipped off to Arsenal. Although Lingard saw his regular spot in the side threatened by the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, the Warrington native has continued to play a major part in Mourinho's thinking, and his 13 goals so far outnumber every player other than Lukaku in the United squad. Far from being a Pogba sidekick, Lingard has truly broken out as his own man in a marvellous individual campaign. 2. ROMELU LUKAKU There were few people doubting his ability to score goals when he arrived at Old Trafford, but many wondered whether Lukaku would be able to refine his game to a point where he could be considered a complete striker for Manchester United. However, he has been a runaway success for the majority of the campaign, with his all-round game showing significant improvement since the turn of the year. He started like a house on fire, scoring 11 times in his first 10 games for the club, but a lull through the autumn had many worried about his long-term viability. Yet he has added a real work rate in the channels and improved his performances with his back to goal, and his goal return has also shown a consistency in recent months. Crucial goals against Chelsea and Crystal Palace, as well as the FA Cup wins against Huddersfield and Brighton, have come during a spell of 11 in 15 games at the crunch time of United's run-in. As a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he has ticked every single box and only looks likely to improve even more after taking his United tally to 26 goals thus far. 1. DAVID DE GEA Mourinho was perturbed to say the least about David de Gea's three successive Player of the Year awards between 2013 and 2016, saying last season: "When, season after season, the goalkeeper is Player of the Season, it means that something is wrong. Hopefully he's not Player of the Season this season but hopefully he keeps making important saves." The manager got his wish last term, with De Gea's lack of involvement in the successful Europa League run helping to ensure that he wouldn't grab the highlights in the same way in 2016-17. However, it has been a reversion to type this time around, with the Spaniard producing some phenomenal performances at crucial times in a season which has proved that United still have plenty to do to stem the flow of opportunities being offered up in their own box. His stunning display at Arsenal in December saw him make a total of 14 saves including an incredible double stop to keep out Alexandre Lacazette with a lightning-fast right-handed save and then Alexis with an outstretched boot from the loose ball. A pair of wonderful reflex saves away to Sevilla also helped to keep United alive for longer than they perhaps deserved in their Champions League tie in February. Even in the 3-2 comeback wins at Crystal Palace and Manchester City in February and March, there might have been no victory at the end of the game but for sensational stops by De Gea, with Christian Benteke denied by a particularly stunning effort at Selhurst Park and Sergio Aguero's header being no match for the 27-year-old. Like most summers, United's biggest bit of transfer business might well be in keeping De Gea at the club. His 16 clean sheets top the Premier League ranks, and his reputation as the world's very best goalkeeper has only increased over the course of 2017-18. http://www.goal.com/en/news/who-is-man-utds-player-of-the-season/1c64aarpkrzh71igqxic9as3zn

1) They did a global launch here in Nigeria, bringing people from all over the world to see the beauty of our country. I don't think any brand has ever done that. Come to think of it, it is a foreign company but was least bothered with the insecurities in Nigeria. 2) They didn't do an event that had just Chinese people in it. Everybody was represented. Our own Minister of Information, Mr Shittu Adebayo was there, the meme king, Odunlade Adesola was there, beautiful Adunni Ade (Nollywood Actress). The Press was fully represented 3) They always make sure their devices are not way out of the reach of the average Nigerian, even with all the great qualities. I'm not saying they have the most superb quality, don't get me wrong ohh. The devices are good enough for everything you want to do with a smartphone. Though when it comes to Camera, I will say they are leading. With the Launch of the Camon X, which has a 24Mp front Camera, It is the first in this Market. 4) Shebi you people know that most companies do fake giveaways and promos... lol... I can remember when Jiji did a giveaway on Instagram and refused to give me the smart phone I won. I have noticed thata TECNO's giveaways are 100% genuine. They are always doing giveaways everyweek as if it is Christmas... lol.. (me, I won a goody bag) 5) TECNO is not all about the money too!... have yo been to Carlcare?... That place is awesome! . If your phone has a factory fault, like your screen start touching or pressing itself, or something weird starts happening to it, they will fix it free for you!. Most brands don't have this kind of customer service. https://www.nairaland.com/4441215/5-reasons-why-agree-tecno#66524790 |
