Good if you start learning the basis.
I’m already doing classes but will like to have a flat form where I can be using it for communication. Especially on social media

1. Learning it live, probably in a French class (teacher or tutor required)

2. Downloading the French learning app (free or paid)

3. After you have learnt something (amateur), change your language from English to French in phone settings.

4. Watch movies in French subtitles

5. Take a simple online French language test (free)

6. Read, comment and like posts of some of your favorite French organisation (sport clubs, restaurant etc) e.g. if you are a Ligue one fan, check up their post on Facebook or other media. Try to read up without translation.

7. Take your time and don't rush. Use a translator if you're confused a bit.

8. Buy s special book for learning French, create your own sentence even with grammatical errors, you'll learn from mistakes written down (corrected).

Nice. I hv been searching for chat rooms that could also help

French is pretty easy. You can reach proficiency quickly. Stick with your classes and you should be fine.

Also, use these (download them):
The Penguin French Phrasebook

Long post alert!

Hello fam, it's been a while here but first of all, my special appreciations goes to @Frankrobben1 @mcobex and @justwise, thanks alot for everything and am highly sorry i have not been so regular to contribute my quota on this great platform. Funny enough, i wanted to drop this post few weeks earlier but it has not been easy balancing work, personal life and family, it has been draining and exhausting at the same time but all the same, i thank God. @Osemigho, longest time to you bro grin.

An important info: If you are currently in Canada and interested in a Work from home Customer Service Representative/Technical Support position, i know of a company that is currently hiring for multiple positions across Canada and they are 90% responsive employer, if interested please send me a PM stating your province and state.

Secondly, please guys brace up and start improving your skills. Studying in Canada is nothing compared to the big struggle which is the labour market, anyone that says getting a professional job is easy is just deceiving you, Canadian employers value skill sets more than your qualifications infact 0.1/1000 would ask for your certificate before hiring you, what they are after is what you have to offer the company in terms of skill sets. I am not trying to scare anyone here but i want you all to think beyond just coming to Canada to study but what lies ahead of you after study. This is a topic that no one talks about and as you are waiting for your approval response from CIC or preparing to travel, start improving both your soft, interview and technical skills.

Before you graduate, start networking with experienced professionals in your field, i cant emphasize this enough, ask questions and dont get tired of doing so, information is power in Canada and a person who doesn't seek for it will be left in the dark. Know the required certifications in your field, begin the journey before you graduate and make sure you get the most out of it. Let me sight an example. My younger brother just graduated in April, he did his masters in cyber security (am sure some people know him on this platform), this guy had studied his field and labour market to know the hot cake certifications he needed to get although they are quite expensive but he was working per time just to raise money to write those exams, he now has the following certifications before grad. for the benefit of anyone who might be interested: Security+ over $450CAD, CCNA over $450CAD, ITILA4 Over $400CAD, AWS SAA over $200CAD. (Although i have no idea of what all this means cos its not my field lol) This guy in question got multiple offers 2 months to his graduation (last feb) and all these companies were ready to wait till he graduate, he picked one and declined the other offers and the pay is crazy. Anyone who knows the trend would testify to the fact that Medical line and IT are hot cake field in Canada. He is currently working on another certification which is targeting a bigger position in IT banking sector and he recently got a new offer with TD bank with mouth watering pay and benefits.

The morale of this story is, he looked beyond just studying and prepared for life after school, he took the pain to invest in himself now he is reaping the reward. And one of the issues i noticed among we Nigerians is we dont always want to spend money to invest in ourselves if you are bringing that mentality of course, you are totally wrong. Do not wait till the last minutes as a student before you start moulding your life, the struggles start immediate you resume school, open your eyes and ears wide please and dont dull yourself.

Remember you are coming to compete with millions of Canadians and intelligent immigrants in the job market, even to get a minimum wage job, you must be sound, intelligent and outspoken, qualifications is garbage in Canada in fact the minimum educational requirements for most managerial/top positions is college degree and at most Bsc. This was why i stated in one of my previous post that pHD degree is a disadvantage in Canada. Dont misquote me please, am not discouraging anyone not to pursue your pHD dream, the choice is yours and it is totally fine if you are using pHD stream to migrate to Canada. if you have passion for pHD, please go for it but if you are in the category of people who has a Naija mentality thinking getting a pHD degree would increase their chances of getting a field job, sorry would be your case because you will end up been overqualified for most positions. Before completing my masters degree, there were 3 pHD students and 2 masters students that were wrapping up in my research group, my supervisor recommended them for some job positions in the industry but unfortunately the masters students were hired while the PHD students were not hired, they were told they are overqualified for the position. Few years back, i applied for my current job with my masters degree appearing on my resume and i didn't even get a green light, the following year, the same company posted the same job, i deleted my masters degree and reapplied and got an interview request the following day and BAM! i landed the job. That is just to give you an idea of how things are running here so if you are planning to stay and work permanently in Canada, don't be too carried away by acquiring degrees because it will end up been useless but your skill sets + Certifications can take you to places.

I have a lot of hints to share but let me drop my pen here smiley

It will surely end in praise grin
Sister, thank you for this piece. I hv an IT background too with some of th e certifications you mentioned. I ll be coming to Canada next year, I ll appreciate if you can link me up with ur IT brother for some enquiries.

Lekiboboe:

Well, you might need to have a cogent reason to justify why u are going for a PGD instead of a masters (Purpose of Study),

Cos a VISA Officer can make a decision at his/her own discretion.

Have you tried applying for a thesis-based masters program and get a Supervisor, you might be lucky to get a fully -funded or Partially funded thesis program

U can Check page 112 for more info on that

Visit the link below for Schools offering Masters in Agric. Econs & Related programs
https://www.universitystudy.ca/search-programs/?k=Agricultural+Economics&program_level_merged=Master%27s+degree&program_language=ENGLISH

U can research about the Professors in that department in their respective schools and send a contextualized e-mail to them

Let him give a chance but the challenge he may face is convincing those professors to accept him or consider him for funding because they like people who have proven to have passion or research along the line of study already

Hi! I'm also in the process of learning a new language. I started with French but now, I am learning Swahili. For the past 150 days, I have been consistently learning every single day and I think I am at intermediate level now. Learning a new language can be difficult. It requires time, patience, consistency and lots of practice. Here are a few tips:

The Basics

Get familiar with the most commonly used words: There are several online resources to help you do this. At an average, it takes about 1,500 words to go from being a novice to an intermediate speaker. Commit to learning the most common 1,500-2,000 words of French.

Download a Language Learning App: I use Duolingo and I like it. However, there are several other apps you could try. Please note that you cannot attain fluency by using a language app. It is only good enough to help you get started. Again, you have to be committed. (Here's my experience using Duolingo for 100 days+ to learn Swahili: http://www.travelwithapen.com/learning-a-new-language-for-travel/)

Visual and Audio Guides: Listen to French podcasts, songs, radio stations etc. The more you listen, the more you learn. Also, watch a lot of French movies. Have you heard people say "I learnt English by watching American movies?" Yep, it works!

Start Speaking from Day 1: The only way to attain fluency fast is to start speaking. You will be frustrated in the beginning but you have to persevere. If you don't have anyone to speak to because you live in an English speaking country, for example; try finding groups to join. I believe Duolingo French has a lot of those

Lastly, where possible, go live in a French-speaking country and truly immerse yourself in the experience.

Some people learn to speak a new language in 3 months! (See this website: Fluentin3months). It is possible. You just have to be seriously dedicated to it. I gave up social media for the first 3 months of learning Swahili. I'm hoping to be able to speak fluently by year end.

Good luck!
Wow. I like ur commitment

Hello house. Please I’m in a dilemma.

I got admitted for the Masters in Medical Biotechnology program at University of Windsor, for Fall 2020. Because the admission came in late, I decided to defer until Fall 2021 (so I can gather the right documents for my SP application). Here’s my profile:

21 years old.
Just completed Nysc.
Bsc in Cell Biology and Genetics (2’1).
No travel history (never applied for or been denied a visa either).
Currently Working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.
I plan on taking a few online courses in Biotechnology before December/January when I submit my study permit application.
Total Tuition for the 2year program is CAD 28,350... Other fees for the 2 years sums up to CAD 6,200. when I divided this, my cost of attendance for a year is around 17,000, plus the 10,000 living expenses = 27,000 (Approximately 8million naira).
I’m trying to build up my sponsors bank statement from now but here’s my challenge:

My mother is my main sponsor. She’s a civil servant, has a bank statement of about 9 or 10m naira, 3 buildings in Lagos, and a store. But her current balance would only be sufficient for 1 year of study. Would it be ok to use just her as my sponsor? Can I list the worth of the properties alongside her bank statement, and say that she plans on selling one of them?
I have 2 siblings but they’re not heavily dependent on her (one had a masters degree already and is working and one is still in secondary school).

Just Incase, Her friend agreed to be my Co sponsor. But we are not related in any way. Different surname too. But he has a bank statement of almost 20m. Would it have any effect if I list him as my Godfather? Would I have to show any proof ? Or just a sponsorship letter from him would do?
Nice question, I wish you all best. You can t get uncles that can borrow ur mum additional millions just for you as proof of funds?

jayrouce:
Hello House. Good afternoon.

I applied for my study permit on 30th of June. Status is: reviewing eligibility and background.
I did upfront medical and also submitted my police report certificate. I have already paid full academic fees and submitted evidence. My LOE and SOP explained everything and SOP too.
I have letters and documents to back up my application.
No feedback from IRCC yet. Did anyone here apply the same date (30th of June) and what is their status please?

I also do not need biometrics as I did 2017, i was rejected then because I did not submit enough documents to prove funds and no SOP and LOE( I have corrected that in this application) and it stated on my profile my biometric ID and validity is till May 23, 2027. This means I do not need biometrics for this application.

My tuition is $21,000 CAD and I provided $41,000 CAD in my application and attached statement of account to back it up. I also have a registered IT company and I attached letter from my HR and my CAC document showing me as a director and CEO with sample projects.

I am a programmer by profession and studied Electrical Engineering as first degree. I am going to Canada to study Petroleum Engineering and I explained the reason why I applied for it because my projects and software development combines both software development, electrical engineering and petroleum engineering. I have detailed list of projects that shows the connection and all. Would this be enough to get an approval?

I need an expert advise. I just checked status and it's still on Reviewing eligibility and background checks. I have also attached the status from my IRCC profile.

Thank you.
