WWE Smackdown reviews recaps and reactions Roman just called Drew his favorite shit. Legend. Roman’s absolutely killing, no, murdering… no - slaughtering every promo he cuts on television. And it feels like every single one is better than the next. Roman told Adam Pearce to step aside so that he could sit at the head of the contract signing table. What a nice touch. That is extreme attention to detail I am here for. Drew said that he hopes Reigns underestimates him, because he should now prepare for war. Then Roman led the sermon. Roman gave the brutal truth, that Drew is nothing but a secondary champion, a prop, a stand-in. Roman said he’s THE champion, the face of WWE, your tribal chief, and the head of the table. One day, years from now, McIntyre will finally get a chance to be the man, and when he does, he’s gonna look back on these nights and thank him “You’re the guy they send in when I’m busy.” Ooof. He signed the contract and told Drew he’ll always be his favorite #2. (His favorite shit.) Shooter McReigns huh? That was a really great wrinkle into the story. I mean it would have been absolutely epic if it ended up being Drew picked to face Goldberg at WrestleMania instead of Braun. Calling Drew the secondary champion was disrespectful, and I loved it. Also, isn’t it quite interesting that the match I’m most looking forward to involving Drew since Lesnar is Roman this Sunday - both Heyman guys? Well, I think this time around it’s Paul Heyman who’s a Roman Reigns guy. All of this is brilliant. Roman is winning on Sunday, but man I’m still so incredibly excited for this match. Logic and catchphrases This is gonna be a quick one. The promo was atrocious. Asuka quoting superstars of the past and Sasha making Michael Cole say “it’s boss time!” Cringe. Bad. And then - logic! Carmella attacked Sasha from behind while she was trying to get a fight out of Asuka before the pay-per-view, and Asuka just… stood there. That made sense! Why would Asuka help her after everything Sasha and Bayley did to both her and her best friend Kairi Sane over the summer? Totally on Asuka’s side here as much as I love Sasha. Sasha needs the win on Sunday but I have a feeling the win is going to Asuka. The Rest Daniel Bryan def. Jey Uso - I really, really appreciated the aggression from both men. Before the match, Bryan said that his daughter was crying when he was in the hospital and he understands there’s an angel and a devil on Uso’s shoulder. The match ruled, with Bryan trying to stomp Jey’s head into the mat and Jey nearly got the win. Bryan got his knees up and blocked Jey’s splash and won with a small package. Really well done from these two. No Roman presence, and I wonder how this loss is going to play out for Jey. Not to put a damper on things, but Jey is in the men’s Bragging Rights team on Sunday. And he lost. That was a trend on this show. Murphy def. Seth Rollins - Very well done match between these two as well, and I liked how they showed us that they knew each other and could anticipate what the other would do. We saw that both when Murphy went to superkick Seth on the turnbuckle and Seth kicked him first, and when Seth went for the curb stomp and Murphy moved out of the way and delivered sick sounding knees to Seth’s face. The Mysterio clan were out for this match and Seth took his aggression out on the men, which made me worry a bit that it would continue what is supposed to be finished with them. I think we’ll be okay. Team tag team champions def. Corbin, Zayn, Ziggler, and Roode - SmackDown before Survivor Series - the one night a year Raw’s and SmackDown’s tag team champions face a group of SmackDown wrestlers and tease dissension! We didn’t need that. There was a bunch of stupidity here. The Raw tag team champions were about to give a title match to a SmackDown tag team. Very... creative and… sensical. (Sarcasm!) However when the tables were turned on New Day, Street Profits came to make the save. Um, where was Big E to make the save for his boys? He was just in the same room with the two men that came down to save them! That’s because we wouldn’t have gotten a nonsensical 8 man tag team match if E showed up. Sami got pinned by a flying Montez after just being in the match for 12 seconds. Please tell me why this happened when Roode or Ziggler, which neither are on Bragging Rights, could have eaten the pin? Sami is in a Bragging Rights match on Sunday. Corbin is also on the men’s SmackDown team and was a loser here. Losers make up most of the SmackDown side of this upcoming show. Which is Bragging Rights, of course. Natalya def. Tamina - The Captain and the BOAT are on Team SmackDown. Bayley decided to take the Captain role as Adam Pearce selected her to be on the team, while shoving Natalya and Tamina in a match to qualify. Unfair! Poor Tamina didn’t stand a chance here, because Natalya’s win was heavily telegraphed. So we have Bayley, Bianca, Liv, Ruby, and Natalya vs. Nia, Shayna, Lacey, Peyton, and Lana for Bragging Rights. I’d like to see the SmackDown women take it, but regardless of whether they win or lose, Lana will be the sole survivor for Raw. I would bet my house on it.(I don't have a house) Otis is on the men’s team - So, Otis who has done pretty much nothing as of late since losing the Money in the Bank briefcase, was selected to be on the men’s Bragging Rights team this Sunday by Adam Pearce. His new… manager?... Chad Gable tried to take credit for it. Don’t take credit for stupid ideas, Chad. Uh... okay! Sure. I mean, Big E was hanging around. I don’t know where after the first three minutes of the show but I’d have rather picked him. Well, we have our pay-per-view this Sunday and there are a couple of things that are obvious - Survivor Series sucks now and WWE can’t book shit to make it exciting. That’s not exclusively for Survivor Series, though. WWE has the tendency to not book well. While it’s not exclusively for this show, it’s the reason why this show now sucks. BRAND SUPREMACY and all. Bragging rights. Not very compelling. We have the Undertaker’s farewell, but like, is it really a farewell? Only time will tell. I’m only looking forward to Roman and |

WWE NXT Reviews recaps and reactions The Boys are Back in Town Undisputed ERA is back. Finn Bálor is back. (Probably.) And it looks like we have ourselves a WarGames match. Finn Bálor closed the show, following the killer women’s title match. He cut a promo that put himself over for being the badass he is for fighting Kyle O’Reilly with a broken jaw. But soon he was cut off by Pat McAfee and his posse. Pat Mac showed off his gift of gab again this week, informing the champ what happened while he was out “sipping steak through a straw.” (Seriously, McAfee has such a way with words.) About how they took out Drake Maverick & Killian Dain. How they took out Breezango. How they took out Undisputed ERA. But the champ didn’t care. These are mice who got to play while the cat was away. But now Finn is back, and he didn’t come alone. That was the cue for Adam Cole and company to join the party and give the Kings of NXT what they have coming. It was a satisfying moment given the weeks we’ve endured Pat running his mouth and his boys injuring our faves. The one mystery that’s left is the status of Finn Bálor. Sure he said “The cat is back” but he never said he’s ready to wrestler. Nor did he fight in the brawl. He very well could be back, but I’m going to need to see something a little more concrete before I’m convinced. I mean he said he has three plates in his face. Can he wrestle with that? Even if he can’t wrestle just yet, just his presence on the show is important. And it’s great to have Undisputed back in a new role, as the babyfaces instead of the dickhead heels. This Is Awesome (Clap, Clap, Clapclapclap) The Women’s title match this week was friggin’ awesome. That shouldn’t be too surprising given Io Shirai is one of the best in the world. And Rhea is really good in her own right. She was rough around the edges when she came into NXT, but she has grown very fast and consistently puts on great matches. (And not just with established talent. Her match with Raquel González at Halloween Havoc lived up to the hype.) Even though we shouldn’t have been surprised, this still exceeded expectations. It was physical, but simple. There was a portion where Io was just working over the challenger’s left arm. But it was still wildly entertaining. It wasn’t a bunch of holds in the middle of the ring. It was using that arm to drop Ripley hard onto the apron. Io dished it out and Rhea sold it all. These women did not hold back. Because there is no holding back in a title match. This was a war. Rhea even used her own blood as war paint at one point. (Very badass.) In the end, Shirai was able to powerbomb Ripley through the announce table. The Nightmare beat the count but the champ was waiting with her patented moonsault to get the job done. The women shared a hug after the match. That could have just been because they’re both babyfaces and had themselves an excellent match. But I think that Ripley is destined for the main roster soon. That would explain why they kind of rushed getting to this match, ending with a very clean loss. If they had more plans for Rhea, I don’t think this would have been as cut and dry. If that is the case and she is headed to Mondays or Fridays, she had herself quite the NXT career. Leon has Entered the Feud The Cinderella Story continues. Johnny Gargano, absolutely besides himself after losing the North American title to Leon Ruff last week, demanded his rematch this week. And he was set on taking back his gold. He attacked Ruff before the bell, showing his determination, and the fact he’s a jerk. But Leon was able to find his moment to land a flurry of offense and try to shock Johnny again. This time, it didn’t work. This time, Leon Ruff needed Damian Priest to retain the title. Unlike last week, when Priest offered a slight distraction but Ruff really just caught Johnny sleeping, Damian handed the title to Leon this week. When Johnny Gargano delivered One Final Beat, Priest dragged Ruff out of the ring and hit him in the face, forcing referee Drake Wuertz to disqualify Johnny Gargano. So not only did Gargano fail to win his title back, but it’s his second loss in as many weeks to Ruff. That was all well and good, but it was actually the backstage segment involving William Regal, Damian Priest, and Leon Ruff where this really heat up. The General Manager wasn’t pleased with Priest, and Damian admitted that maybe he took the joke too far. That’s when Ruff interrupted, incensed that this is a joke to the Archer of Infamy. The champ claimed if he can’t defend the title, he shouldn’t be the champ. Priest apologized, but Ruff slapped him in the face and left. That response from Leon was pretty much perfect. He knows last week may have been a fluke. But he respects the title too much to be a paper champ. If he’s going to lose, so be it. The slap showed passion and ensured Priest would get the message. They picked this up later. Priest was headed to the ring for a match again... someone. But Johnny attacked him prior and those two fought. Then Leon inserted himself, again to prove this is as much about him as it is about the two of them. He may have pushed the other two a bit too far and needed to hightail when it looked like they were going to team up against him. All of this ensures that Ruff isn’t just a tool to tell the story of Priest vs. Gargano. He’s part of this. He’s the champ and he’s getting a chance to show what he’s about. In fact, he told William Regal confidently that he’ll fight both of them. Suddenly, Leon Ruff a player in all this. WARGAMES TakeOver: WarGames was officially announced for Dec. 6. We know Shotzi Blackheart will lead a team against Candice LeRae. Given how pissed Blackheart was after LeRae ran over her tank, there’s plenty of bad blood between these two to warrant both anchoring a team. Candice, who defeated Kayden Carter with a slight assist from Indie Hartwell earlier in the night, didn’t have a tough time filling the rest of her team. Hartwell was always a given. Dakota Kai and Raquel González appear to have joined the cause as well. After Dakota & Raquel lost to Toni Storm & Ember Moon in a fun tag bout, Kai and González joined in on a post-match beat down led by Candice LeRae and Indie Hartwell. That attack likely stems from Candice taking exception to Storm supporting Shotzi after the tank incident. Last week, LeRae cheated to beat Toni and then beat her up, so there’s bad blood in the other direction as well, even prior to this attack. There are enough issues between the women involved to ensure the pairing doesn’t seem random. Shotzi will still need one more person. Perhaps Io Shirai, who has a long standing feud with Candice LeRae. This will be a fun WarGames match. Blindfolded Cameron Grimes faced Dexter Lumis in a blindfold match this week. During the bout, I realized I’m getting tired of this feud. This had been a really fun comedy bit with the Haunted House of Terror and the subsequent weeks of Grimes trying to cope with all the zombie trauma. But it feels like this has run its course. This blindfold match didn’t hit and works to prolong something that probably should have ended already. Grimes stumbled around, accidentally beat up the referee, then both men eventually unmasked and Lumis chased Cameron until the Carolina Caveman escaped through the crowd. It wasn’t outwardly bad or anything, but this didn’t add anything to the what they’ve been doing and the antics are getting a bit tired. It may be time to transition these men into different feuds. All The Rest: - Kushida defeated former Raw Underground star Arturo Ruas in an exhibition. The Kushida push continues and it feels like this was just to keep him winning before the next big thing. Maybe an NXT title shot? - It looks like rather sudden babyface Tommaso Ciampa’s issue with the conduct of the locker room has led him to Timothy Thatcher. Thatch defeated his ex-student August Grey and was about to beat him up more after the match when the Psycho Killer walked to the ring to stare down Tim. Thatcher retreated, telling the former NXT champ that he has no problem with him. - Boa told William Regal, who went to his house looking for answers, that “She is coming.” Some more intrigue from this angle. Who is she? This was a good show, with an incredible main event match followed by a strong closing angle. |

WWE Raw Reviews recaps and reactions Sigh. What a boring opening to this show. I’m really starting to get fed up with this nonsense. Miz and Morrison are mute worthy, Drew is now cutting generic “talk about how the upcoming U.S. holiday is special to you” promos, and Randy is back to calling himself the “greatest wrestler ever” and I did not need to be reminded of it. As much as Miz and Morrison are mute worthy, Mix had an excellent point when he said that Drew was giving title shots to anyone with a face. That’s something I had been talking about everytime a new and unworthy person popped up to get a WWE title shot, and Drew would just happily give it to them. Something I don’t think I’ve been mentioning is that the past 2 weeks, Sheamus had been running into Drew backstage, and he was being a cool dude and really friendly to Drew, as they are actually friends. Sheamus ran into him again, and presented him with a trunk. In that trunk, was Drew’s Scottish attire and it was a great moment. Sheamus also gave Drew a sword. While it was a cool moment, it could also be telegraphing Drew’s next feud. So the match happened, and it wasn’t too bad, but we’ve seen it so many times in the past 3 months. There were some nasty table spots, where the announce desk did not collapse for Orton. Poor guy. But the best thing is that we’re getting exactly what I, and a lot of others, want. Drew and Roman is going to be a banger at Bragging Rights. Now the question on everyone’s mind - why did they switch the WWE title at Hell in a Cell? It did give us this great moment here, but WWE definitely did the wrong thing last month. Chalk that up to Vince being a week to week booker and doing whatever his heart desires. What a great way to do business! A friendship that will never, ever end We had a Firefly Fun House episode here that really didn’t do much, but the best part of it was Alexa telling Bray to spell jackass and Bray said M-I-Z. That got a laugh out of me. Before the match, Alexa Bliss came out to a new Fiend-ified mix to her usual entrance music, which sounded great. But right before Bray came out, Nikki Cross tried to shake some sense into her bestie. It looked like it worked for a moment, but Alexa baited Nikki and attacked her. Then Bray’s cheery Fun House music hit and she flipped into a smile and escorted Bray down the ramp. The creepy ass staredown between Bray and Nikki Cross was also excellent. Morrison tried to interfere twice, stupidly, and the second time he did it, Alexa dove off the steps and they both were sent into the ThunderDome crowd. Bray won the match, and then the happy friends walked up the ramp and were met by the Fiend on the tron. Very interesting. Both of them had scared looks on their faces. I’m trying to figure out what this means. Is The Fiend jealous? Are we going to have some sort of a love triangle here? Also, I had a thought that maybe we finally get the brothers united and Bo Dallas plays The Fiend in a future segment with Bray in the ring. Whatever is happening, I’m in. It’s an interesting layer to this saga that I didn’t think of. The Rest New Day def. Hurt Business - This was the best match of the night. Holy shit. The last few minutes were fast paced and had a couple of scary dives from Cedric that could have ended badly. New Day and Street Profits is the right way to go and I’m glad they didn’t pivot to change the match at Bragging Rights. Xavier Woods is a fantastic wrestler and I love this dude. Asuka, Mandy, and Dana def. Lana, Nia, and Shayna - So, what was the point of this match? Everything about this was dumb. Let’s start here - WWE officials putting Lana and Nia anywhere near each other was dumb. Randy put his hands on Adam Pearce and got an incredibly large unannounced fine, but Lana has been put through the announce desk NINE TIMES! Does Pearce and other officials truly not give one shit about Lana? They also put two other team members on the opposing side and threw Asuka in. Those same people decided not to get involved to help Lana again this time. I am so happy we’ll be done with this soon. Well, then Dana got attacked by Reckoning (Mia Yim) backstage, and it was announced that both Dana and Mandy are out of Bragging Rights. Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce will be replacing them. Bleh. RETRIBUTION def. Team Raw - So, what was the point of this match? More obviously, it was to show all of the dissension we already knew existed on Team Raw heading into Bragging Rights. I thought maybe we’d see a minute of T-Bar and Keith Lee but we didn’t get that. Slapjack was tossed all around and Ali got a kick ass pin on Riddle (really hate that they dropped Matt) for the win. Ali made sure he held that position and I liked that touch. A lot of pins should look more like that. Jeff Hardy is mad at flyers - Jeff was backstage ripping down a bunch of flyers showing pictures of the accident he was not involved in back in June that injured Elias. As angry as he was, he made a point to show the full flyer on television and read the number people should call, too. Totally what one does when they don’t want a flyer to be seen by anyone. He then confronted Elias about it backstage and said he’d really hurt Elias and wouldn’t be responsible for it or something like that. It was dumb. Never mind the fact that, ya know, the actual guy who framed Jeff and hit Elias with Jeff’s car is ON THE SAME SHOW AS THESE TWO! But he gets to pal around with Drew McIntyre and do the Team Raw nonsense. No one has even mentioned Sheamus and my intelligence is being insulted, which is common for a lot of WWE programming. The wrestling on this show helped a lot, because the opening was a complete dud. Thankfully, it did not harm the show where it mattered. New Day and Hurt Business was the best match, Drew and Randy did well, and even Bray and Miz wasn’t bad. Hopefully the good stuff carries into Bragging Rights. Yeah. Bragging Rights. I mean, that’s what Survivor Series is now anyway. Why not just call it that |
