They should go back in history and see how France welcomed African leaders from the Francophone countries, no different from this reception. They do that to give you a sense if grandor while ripping you. France is simply not a friend to any African country. Certainly he will not want his investments threatened. Mitterand did more than this when IBB visited in the 80s. Even some francophone presidents get this kind of honour. I stopped being moved by this symbolism after Ghaddafi visited Europe and received a royals welcome and then months later got bursted by the same France and Italy that recieved him like a king.

France has this culture of royal hosting African leaders but also has one of the worst brutal histories in Africa. The moment asiwaju realizes that France can't be recognized as a true dependable ally, the better it'd be for him going forward. What was it Mali, Niger, and Burkina and even Senegal saw that made them pivot from France?

I can remember a headmaster of a technical secondary school who told his students to carry almost all the machines and hand tools that was bought for the students by the Federal government to his house.
