The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K Idris NPM, mni wishes to state categorically that at no time did Nigeria Police Force place a ban on peaceful public protest/procession anywhere in Nigeria most particularly Federal Capital Territory.
2. Peaceful Public protest/procession is an integral part of democratic norms in as much as it conforms with the rule of law and public order.
3. The Nigeria Police Force recognises the constitutional rights of every law abiding citizen to express his or her view through public protest/procession and other legitimate means.
4. In order to ensure that public protest/procession is not hijacked by hoodlums and miscreants to unleash mayhem and disturbance of public peace, persons or group of persons undertaking public protest/procession should endeavour to notify the police to enable the police protect and process the public procession through designated routes and destinations.
5. However, the Police will not condone any protest/procession on the public highways and roads inhibiting or disallowing public freedom and right of way.
6. The Inspector General of Police is committed to the principles of democratic policing and adherence to international best practices in public order management. To this end, State Commissioners of Police and Police Commanders are directed to emplace strategies to protect and facilitate lawful public protest/processions as well as protect other members of the public who are not engaged in any form of public protest/procession.

The Imo state police command on Monday, August 22, rescued a 3-day old baby stolen by unknown child thieves barely 48-hours after his birth at the Chukwunonso Maternity in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.
While reuniting the baby with his parents, Mr and Mrs Oluebube Ekwedike from Umuezealaowerre Ehime Mbano LGA, at the command headquarters in Owerri on Monday, the Imo State Police Commissioner, Taiwo Lakanu, said that after the issue was reported to the police, the men of the command swung into action and arrested two suspects who were at the verge of selling off the baby.
The baby’s 21-year-old mother mother Uchechi Ekwedike said she was tricked by the culprits in order to steal her baby. The Commissioner said child stealing and trafficking still persist despite numerous warnings to people to desist from the devious act.
“My team, the entire Imo State Police Command, will not rest on its oars to ensure that criminal offenses are brought to its barest minimum in the state. It is so unfortunate that such barbaric behaviour still exists amongst our people. But the arrest of these ones should serve as a deterrent to other child thieves across the state and to make them realise that no matter how smart they are, the hands of the law will catch up with them.” he said.

World fastest runner, Usain Bolt who celebrated his 30th birthday Sunday was seen dancing with a girl who was grinding on him in a club in the Barra de Tijuca suburb of Rio but it seems he didn’t go with the girl. Another girl, 20 -year-old student from Rio called Jady Duarte apparently spent some time with him.
Duarte has shared photos of what appear to be her with Usain Bolt after a wild night of partying on the final weekend of the Olympics. In one of the photos – which first appeared on several Brazilian websites including El Globo after Duarte shared them with friends – Bolt seems to give Duarte a kiss on the cheek while she looked into the camera.

A statement released today by the advocacy group for the missing Chibok girls, Bring Back Our Girls, states that the group will from Monday August 22nd commence actions that will compel the Federal government and international community to take decisive measures towards the rescue of the kidnapped Chibok school girls. According to the statement, they will be marching to the presidency and also engage in media interactions and others.

We hereby announce our decision to embark on a series of activities to compel decisive action from our government and the global community. Activities will commence on Monday, 22nd August 2016. They will include several marches to the Presidency, media interactions, and engagements with critical stakeholders such as Governments, International Organizations, Statesmen and Influencers. Critical areas to be covered during this period of engagement are our#ChibokGirls, the humanitarian crisis in the North East, corruption in the disbursement of relief materials to IDPs, and the arms deal saga. We call on all citizens, within Nigeria and across the world, to join us on these engagements.

Mohammed Lawan Fugu pictured above, who is a lecturer in the department of Building Engineering, Ramat Polytechnic in Maiduguri, Borno state was murdered by unknown persons at the 1000 housing estate in Maiduguri on Saturday August 6th. The state police command is currently investigating the motive behind his death. May his soul rest in peace Amen.
