Friend, stack overflow was created to help developers do their job. Not help them pass job assessment test. In fact, I get codes that I use for applications fro stack overflow and code project. But I would never think to post a job test on stack overflow.

When I made the post, I made it with a well-premeditated intention to make you fail if this was an attempt to cheat.
I was expecting you to come over and make a defence, but I wasn't expecting you to do it with any bit of politeness. I thought, as is the wont of nairanders, you would cast all manners of insults and aspersions on me. I had made up my mind to not offer you any bit of reply even if you rained down the whole world's insults.

But, after several hours of not seeing any defence from you, I was starting to feel uneasy, I thought I had made a somewhat false accusation. Now all my feeling of uneasiness have vanished. You have made your defence as anticipated. In case you don't know, it is a basic human trait for wrong doers to offer a defence for their wrong doing. Its been going on since the garden of Eden. So, to me, your defence means nothing.One doesn't have to have a PhD in Psychology for him to expect you to offer a defence.

I ask you this questions:

Were you not told by email to ensure you solve the problem alone? If, yes, why did you not follow that instruction?
Were you not told not to make the question public? If, yes, why did you not follow that instruction?
If there was nothing wrong with what you have done , why did you remove the post?
Why, in particular, did you change the title of the thread even when it was no longer useful to you and you had removed the opening post.
If there was nothing wrong with what you had done, why were you bordered by the fact that your profile was reported?(By the way, I did not report your profile. I did not even know for sure if it were an ongoing test or not, but I am glad your profile was reported).

I know for certain that if you posted this on stack overflow or code project, people would have condemned you for cheating. It is stated, expressly, on codeproject that you should not post your school assignment asking for a solution there and that you should expect that your lecturer may view your post. If they can state this much for a school assignment what do you think their response will be if you post a job test.

I put it to you that you attempted to cheat and unfortunately your attempt failed.

They usually send applicants jobs test via email and require the solution be submitted via email.

Those tests are a test of d applicants programming ability and thus situability for the job.

The expect d applicant to be honest.enough to take the test himself and they also do not expect him to make the test because dy hardly change questions.


If d above is indeed a job test given to d op,it means that rather dn solving d problem himself so that his solution will reflect his true programming capability( which is actually the intention), he is tryg to get nairalanders to help him solve the problem so that the solution will be a false reflection of his programming capability.

It means he got help in solvg d problem, he got unfair advantage, he deceived d hr team by giving them false information about his programming capability.It also means he tryg to get the job by use of deceit.

Remember other persons have also applied.So, in effect, it means while other people are busy racking their brains. he is busy getting nairalanders to rack their brains on his behalf.

if you use a strict grammer, all parts of the grammer must be encoded.

But using a notional system,the app is to infer that summary means or belongs to certain classes of MEANING
i.e synonyms, then using that solve the problem.

summary is synonymous with : reduction, - (minus), no fluff, bare essentials, etc

It's harder than it seems.

My last post was the result of a skim over your post. I have carefully read through and this is my well thought out response.


1. You are right, but the you are wrong too: You are right in that it will take a reasonable length of time to come up with a ready made application that can solve the problem you explained above. But it is quite possible to come up with one that will solve the problem incrementally, that is focus on a subset first, update you database for that and update or code for that.

2. The solution above was not meant to be generic . It was designed specifically for solving secondary school level mathematics word problem as found in NGM. It was meant as a guide to show a possible solution pattern. Viewers were meant to use its as a spring board.In short, it meant to get the thinking along the proposed solution line so that the problem become simple, and quite easily solvable, but please, simple and easily solvable in this context does not mean solved in a short time, it means the solution can be easily designed. How long it take s to come up with the design is something else, and how quickly the design is coded, is also a completely different issue else.

In short,my proposed solution was meant to make the problem graspable, and to bring it into the domain on being easily solvable( as explained above).

3.I believe the use of synonyms will make the application much more better, but if you are gong to achieve what you set out above you must your application must also understand grammar. Wat is the use of synonyms and antonyms if the meaning of the root word that the synonym relates to is not know.
The meaning of each word must be known and each meaning must be such that t can be summarized into single words that programs can relate with. A computer program can not understand meaning if it exist in sentence form.But is all meanings are condensable into single words like nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs etc , that it will be possible to come out with a set of rules for processing words that belong to certain grammer groups. Synonyms and antonyms the become tools for carrying out quick codensation of words into group.

Notice that, nouns,and pronoun are equivalent: they pinpoint entities.
Adjectives are related to nouns and pronouns; they identify entities which other wise would have belonged to more general group. There is a difference a boy and a sick boy.

Adverbs are related to adjectives, they give degree to adjectives so that a there is a difference between a sick boy and a very sick boy.

This means that rule can be developed that identify nouns,pinpoint their purpose and also pinpoint the degree of that purpose.

Notice that verbs can be easily translated into mathematical or program equivalent. Summarise, like you mention above can be related to decrementation. Run,travel, swing cab be linked to linear, rotational and possible shear transformation.. And so on and so forth.

Adverbs are related to verbs, they tell us the degree of the action of a verb. Summarise will be quite different from quickly summarise.

Prepositions an be very will linked to mapping.

All these are mathematical concepts.

Any application of such that does not also understand grammar will hardly achieve what you described above.But, then I may be wrong. The best bet it to marry both ideas. Language is about grammar and meaning and not meaning only.

When several clues that can possibly belong to several problem class are encountered, the the application would enforce the the rule of precedence meaning clue that is most relevant, or has, the greatest affinity will decide (or determine) the class the problem in question is classified into. This allow the user to reword however he deems fit , the rule of precedence,hierarchy, relevance or affinity of clues will be used in sorting things out in order to arrive at the final decision or choice of problem class.

True Sir. It's far from being simple.
Anyways, I promised to come up with something before the end of the month. Its an app(android) that can read and provide solutions to word problems. But due of the complexity of the project, I limited the recognition ability of the app to just "linear mechanics" in O'Level physics. Maybe in future updates, other aspects of physics and mathematics may be incorporated.
In essence, this app would solve "any" secondary school linear motion problem with relative ease. I made it flexible enough to ignore minor typographical errors and give the correct results nonetheless. It's just a rough work, plus I'm still a beginner, so don't expect the best of programming skills.

That I said it is simple does not mean , I said it will could be done in a day.

The heart of the application is its parser, you have to sit done and write a parser first. Parsers operate base on rules. They parse according to the rules qiven to them. But someone must sit down and write the rules first, bfore writing the codes. You can base your rules on synonyms and antonyms or any other rule, but you must sit down, study the problem first and come out with relevant rules.The purpose of the parser is to recognise words based on the given rules and discard irrelavant words while also organising the garnered words according to rules of processing of the application. If you can sit down and write a good parser, you job is 70% done.

In you case, since you are writing per school subject, you can write parsers per school subject.

I maintain dt ds problem. is simple.I coughed out ds particular solution in seconds.I never had prior knowledge of it.

It is not every thing I havr in mind dt i posted here.I can.alwas come up.with a more robust and generic version. I will try to find time to sit down to come up with a better version if i can find time.

Angela was the love of my life. I met her about 11 years ago,she had just gotten admission to study pharmacy in the University of Nigeria. She came to our compound to tell her friend, a neighbor’s daughter Ifeoma, that she had just gotten admission to study in the higher institution. At that time,I just finished my youth service and just gotten a job with one of the banks.

Angela had come to see her friend Ifeoma that Saturday morning. I sighted her as she struggled to open our gate. I came downstairs to assist her. I asked her who she came to see. After that, Angela and I became friends.

It was not hard to actually fall in love with her. She was a smart,funny and very beautiful girl. In the middle of her first year at school,Angela’s father lost his job as a Security man and it became very difficult to cater for their family,talk less of taking care of Angela’s educational expenses.

At the time,I was very sure I was in love with Angela. I immediately began to take up her educational responsibilities. I assured her parents that they did not have to worry ,I was willing to do all I could to see this beautiful girl through school.

Last week,I received a very long email from Angela. She was asking me to forgive her that she had finally realized that she was very wicked to me after all I had done for her. She said that she found out that the man she got engaged to was a ritualist who charmed her and perhaps wanted to use her for rituals. I was really surprised to hear from her as I thought she had long gotten married to this fellow.

When I inquired,I was told that after the engagement,the fellow left for Germany with the promise that he would send for Angela later on. Four years went by and the man never came back for her. It was discovered from a lady’s facebook pictures that that the man had gotten married to a white lady in Germany and had moved from Germany to America.

My story sounds very unreal,like could this have happened to someone like me in this generation. But sadly it did. People,especially ladies are very greedy. Even after four years,I find it very hard to trust ladies.

Angela’s mom came to my family’s house I was told yesterday to beg. She kept crying and saying that her daughter was charmed. Somehow,I think my mother believes the story a little. She called me this morning to pray about it and consider. She said that God had revealed to her that Angela was my wife. That was why the plan with the other man didn’t work.

Seriously mum?…I cant believe this,can anyone believe the story by Angela and her family that they were all charmed?
