Sometimes, what we see as nonsense turns out to be a blessing for us.
Certain wisdom comes with age . . . .No matter how enlightened or intelligent You think You are, unless You attain that particular age, You cannot understand what that elder is talking about. Nollywood made it simpler - ''What an elder sees sitting, a child would not see, even if he stood on the tallest tree''.

If Your parents say NO . . . .regardless of how dumb You think their excuse is, just don't throw it in the air immediately, cerebrate on it severely and maybe, just maybe You will find sense in that seeming nonsense.
hmmmmm

lets assume it dosen't have anything to do with their so called family status. . .

so are you saying that Parents Know your Partner/Boyfriend/Girlfriend more than YOU?

parents influence on their children's choice of spouse has ruined many people's chance of real happiness,

Marriage is hard enuff when u r in it with the right person talk less of with the wrong person,

A lady i know decided NOT to marry her long time boyfriend because her mum 'didn't like him'.

She later met another guy who her mum believed 'matched' the family's' status & they had a big society wedding thereafter.

6 years later after 2 kids, they are divorced.

Old boyfriend also married to later divorce after 1 kid.

Now, they are back together again & are engaged getting ready to marry

Why would u let your parent(s) decide who u marry?

*87-man LOC join Eagles
*Lulu’s wives, four kids in South Africa
CHARACTERISTIC of the rat which would rather spill a bowl of fried meat than be prevented from sinking its teeth into the irresistible delicacy, the goons at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), who accessed hefty funds courtesy Super Eagles' participation in the 2010 World Cup, would prefer to go on a spending spree than bequeath the surplus to the new Board of the Federation.

The tenure of the current Board of the NFF expires in August 2010, and there are indications that bulk of the members- who are not sure of being re-elected- are desperate to make the most of the opportunity afforded by the World Cup project.

National Daily’s investigations revealed that not less than N2.25billion was credited to the accounts of the Nigerian football authorities in the aftermath of Nigeria's qualification for the World Cup. The world soccer ruling body, FIFA, gave the NFF $1million for the preparation of the Super Eagles for the mundial and $8million paid upfront for playing all three first round matches of the competition. The sum totalling $9million (N1.35billion), National Daily gathered, is exclusive of the N900million grant received by the NFF from the Federal Government for the preparation and participation of the national team in the World Cup.

With an eye-popping N2.3 billion in the kitty, hints that the Sani Lulu-led Executive Board may not put the funds to judicious use first emerged when officials of the Federation went to South Africa to book hotel accommodations for the Eagles at an outrageous amount. Sports Minister, Isa Bio, later cancelled the arrangement when he discovered that the accommodation facility fell short of what was required, and the NFF had to pay $125,000 to the hotel for breach of contract.

For the World Cup proper, sources, who keep tabs on events in the Glass House secretariat of the NFF in Abuja, revealed that no fewer than 87
Adamumen and women, excluding all executive board members, were ferried on an all-expense paid trip to South Africa for the World Cup by the NFF.

"The 87 people are made up of all the 37 Football Association chairmen in the 36 states of the Federation and Abuja; 30 men and women whose roles in Nigeria football could not be immediately ascertained; including two wives and four children of Alhaji Sani Lulu, who you know is the NFF President," said the source who pleaded for anonymity.

The source explained: "The idea behind taking all the FA chairmen to South Africa was informed by the fact that the current NFF board members will need the support of these states chairmen when the elections come up in August because they (states chairmen) form a sizeable percentage of the expected delegates.

"To give a sense of legitimacy to the large entourage, they set up different committees just as if they wanted to organise a tournament of their own and divided the 87 people into the committees like Protocol, Logistics, Medical, Accommodation, and Media. You would be surprised to know that Ademola Olajire, the Public Relations Officer of the NFF did not go to South Africa as a member of the media committee but that of medical."
However, speaking in a telephone interview with National Daily from his hotel room at the Nigerian camp in South Africa, the NFF President, Lulu, did not deny that the Federation had sponsored scores of people to South Africa, just as he asserted that there was nothing wrong if he decided to take his entire family to watch the World Cup.

"Like I told some people before we left for South Africa, the World Cup gives us an opportunity to expose our people to big tournaments.
"All the people we have taken to South Africa are stakeholders in Nigerian football and it is good for them to come and learn what it takes to organise a tournament like the World Cup because we may decide to host it in the nearest future.

"And as far as my wives and children are concerned, who says I cannot take my family to anywhere? If they are in South Africa, who told them it's on the bill of the NFF?", snapped the NFF boss, who demanded that the interaction be brief because he was at a meeting with federation officials.
Indeed, with the astronomic rise in the cost of return ticket to South Africa and the ripple effect hosting the World Cup has had on cost of accommodation (a decent hotel room reportedly attracts $350 a night), feeding, transport and match tickets in South Africa, the NFF is definitely spending a fortune on the welfare of its “pilgrims.” This development, observers averred, is tantamount to diverting funds meant for the development of Nigeria football to frivolous ventures.

The jamboree to South Africa, critics observed, is yet another episode in the regime of heist unleashed on Nigerian athletes and the country's youths in general by sports administrators. Just a few months to the 2010 World Cup, the sum of $230,000 was discovered missing from the safe of the NFF in its secretariat in Abuja.

Nigeria has been involved in several international sporting events either as host or participant in the past, however, most ending in controversies bordered on abuse of budgeted funds. The most recent list included the 1999 FIFA Under-20 World Football Championship, 2003 8th All Africa Games, 2008, 29th Olympiad in Beijing, China, and 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Football Championship.

For the 2003 8th All Africa Games, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) headed by Dr. Amos
Ojo-ObaAdamu squandered $300million (N4.5 trillion) on infrastructure and event proper. Aside the public outcry, the World Bank was forced to raise concerns about the amount of money spent on the construction of the new National Stadium Complex for the 2003 All African Games, saying the amount is exorbitant and should have been used to address massive poverty and other social crises in the country. Sadly too, hundreds of contractors are still being owed huge sums of money, five years after the games. It is still a point of controversy if Nigeria really got value for the huge resources put into hosting the games.

The first FIFA event in Nigeria was the World Youth Championship held in 1999. With the desperation of the then military administration to shut the mouths of critics, nothing was spared in terms of the deployment of funds to make the tournament a success. Under the haze of military secrecy, it would be almost impossible to know how much was exactly spent on that tournament.

There were certainly no proper records on how much had been expended in hosting the several editions of the Africa Women Championship, both by the Federal and State Governments.
The 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Football Championship equally heated up the polity, when it became difficult to reconcile the N35 billion initially earmarked for the event by the LOC and the eventual N9 billion found adequate.

The Local Organising Committee for the Under-17 tournament had submitted a huge budget of N35billion; spending so much for a lowly fancied event in the FIFA calendar, was described as the most irrational.

It immediately drew flaks from the media and well meaning Nigerians. The President, Late Umaru Yar’Adua, reacted impulsively with a decision to withdraw from hosting the tournament and immediately communicated it to FIFA Headquarters. Reactions and counter-reactions came from all sides. But more of the criticisms by Nigerians were centered on the N35billion budget proposal.

The then figure tumbled down- from N35.4billion to N16billion. The Presidency started a rethink, rescinded its earlier decision and approved N9billion for the tournament.

Appearing before the Senate Committee on Sports, the first Vice-Chairman of the LOC, Mr. Mainasara Ilo, in his presentation before the committee revealed that Yar’Adua was mislead into taking the earlier decision to cancel the tournament.

His arguments were that only N11billion was actually earmarked for the organisation of the games. The rest were padded in to provide facilities for Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the upgrading of facilities. According to the breakdown submitted to the Senate, N12.2billion would be expended on broadcast facilities, while N4billion would go in for the rehabilitation of Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna; the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi; the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu and the National Stadia in Abuja and Lagos. The LOC had revenue projection of N5billion.

But sources close to the National Sports Commission indicated that the budget somersault was a conspiracy against the former Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Gimba, who was at the time of his stewardship, at daggers drawn with Dr. Amos Adamu, the sacked Director General (DG) of the commission.

With Gimba removed as minister, the LOC delegation led by Adamu himself alleged before the Senate Committee on Sports that the President was deceived or better put, misled on the content of the budget.

Although there was no mention that Gimba was the “deceiver,” he was, no doubt, the only one along the line that had access to the President and was the one who took the withdrawal letter to FIFA in Zurich. This was also curious because the budget was actually made by the LOC and passed on to the President through the Minister.

However, the sacking of Dr. Adamu as DG of the Commission laid credence to insinuations that he was culpable of the confusion that followed the N35.4billion tournament budget.

Nigeria’s lousy performance in the 2008, 29th Olympiad in Beijing, China, adequately underlines the import of ample preparation in sporting events. It was, therefore, not surprising that the nation’s contingent to the game returned home with one silver medal in U-23 soccer, three bronze medals – one each in Taekwondo, women’s long jump and women’s 4x100m relay. Nigeria’s outing at the event was lacklustre and fell below Late President Yar’Adua’s bogey directive to the contingent to win eight gold medals. The reasons for the lack-lustre outing included poor preparation and official dishonesty; while the Federal Government was blamed for the late release of funds, the administrators have been accused of placing personal interests above national interest in the course of the game.

Critics dismissed the Federal Government budget of N1.7billion for the preparation and even Games proper. The country’s lack of proper sports policy tailored towards talent grooming and sports development was also cited as the team’s albatross.

Remarkably, the same set of persons had always been behind the idea of Nigeria playing host to or participating in international sporting events. "Through these avenues they readily position themselves to make a kill because as usual they come up with ridiculous budgets and even go as far as requesting for supplementary funds, and of course they succeed because the government is a willing accomplice," said a veteran sports journalist who sought for confidentiality.

Interestingly though, proper investigation into the shady deals and scams that surrounded the misspent fund released for any international competition hosted or participated in by the country has never been initiated or conducted.

All eyes are on the Presidency to instil sanity in the NFF and kill the now habitual appetite for waste of the much–needed funds that would have been channelled into the development of the all-import sector.

I truly understand the pain and disappointment Nigerians feel at the moment but why do we all forget we prepared badly for this competition. We sacked the man who qualified us to appoint Lagerback (who i believe is a good coach) with weeks to the world cup. Is it possible that we were simply not good enuff? Very simple. Not the boys' fault. Once we get the structure working, we'll improve. Chikena!
