About 85 Nigerians were yesterday deported from the United Kingdom (UK) for immigration and related offences, an immigration source at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos confirmed yesterday.

According to the source, the Nigerians comprising 15 females, 13 minors and 59 males were flown in aboard a chartered aircraft with registration number GCO-RJD, which landed at the runway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos about 6.00 am.

The source said shortly on arrival, the deportees were taken through security checks by approriate security agencies at the airport, including Nigerian Immigration Services, the police and other agencies to avoid causing any nuisance around the airport.

It would be recalled that last week, scores of Nigerians were deported from European countries for immigration and related offences.

Last year, over 734 Nigerians were in the last four days deported from the country.

The Nigerians, who had allegedly resided in the North African country without valid travel documents were brought home aboard a chartered aircraft, which arrived the cargo section of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos at odd hours for reasons bordering on security, the source informed.
