Politics › Re: Why Igbos Need To Embrace The Free Trade Zone Idea by Raf4: 9:18am On May 30, 2025 |
mrvitalis: Greetings my Beloved Ndi Igbo
Let me start this by saying we all know the Nigerian state is designed to be against Us as a people, from government policy, to infrastructure, to security agencies , recently even educational bodies. Luckily for us the people piloting and driving this anti Igbo sentiments are not so smart and are limited to what they can actually do because of the strength of Igbo diaspora lobbying block
Let me get down to business months ago Soludo knowing Igbos controlled majority of the pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria decided to build a pharmaceutical village... Where our sons and daughters would bring their pharmaceutical factories , to that effect he called a meeting with all the Igbo pharmaceutical giants and they told him reason they don't manufacture primarily in the east is because All pharmaceutical products must be important through either Lagos airport or Apapa port so he dropped the idea
That got me thinking really how many sector are limited by Nigerian government policies.. I started to research.. Garment industry, cosmetics, metal works/ fabrication, Pharmaceuticals, agricultural industries, and a few others
I started to look for solutions to make this sectors thrive even under the Nigerian useless policies... Then came the idea of Free Trade Zone... This is exactly what China used to thrive even under socialist government All major Chinese cities u know today have massive Free trade zone
So what exactly is a Free trade zone It's a designated geographic area within a country where goods and services can be imported, manufactured, or re-exported without being subject to customs duties or other trade restrictions. It's essentially a special economic zone that offers businesses within it certain advantages in trade and investment. ... Which means in this zones Nigerian economic policies won't work.. 100% free trade
If Soludo had simply converted his pharmaceutical village to a pharmaceutical free trade zone... Those companies would have relocated, imported from every sea port and airport just tag the delivery point to the free trade zome
The reason Aba can't compete with Bangladesh n Pakistan in the garment sector is government policies, the import duty on fabrics makes everything they produce above international average price... So makes it difficult to sale
If Abia can create a garment factory free trade zones, the people their can import fabrics without any single import duty, from any port they choose and can then compete favorably on the global scale
Again we need to do more, Nigerian political elites are not smart ever can always find away around their policies it won't be that hard if we try hard enough
Sorry for the grammatical blunders, English writing has never been my strong point Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and many other states in Nigeria already created FTZ decades ago without beefing anybody, FG/States. But you people with your toxic attitude and bitter mindset must attack everyone for everything about you, even when we are not aware or interested in whatever going on in your enclave. So distasteful!!! |

The COALITION is going to be underestimated but will be a game changer. Political appoitments, bribery, stealing, grabbing, snaching will not save the DRUG LORD and THIEF. As far as we are concerned in the SW, it is a well defined partnership, when necessary. |

AustineE1: Lagos is what it is today by the fact that it was the capital of Nigeria and hence, federal strength was used to fix most infrastructures there and until the federal govt decides to decentralized development, nothing will change. If govt could invest half of what it invested in putting up the different ports in Lagos,in portharcourt and calabar,I bet you most people will relocate, dredge Onitsha port to accommodate huge cargoes and see what is left of Lagos. Abuja used to be a glorified village until it was made the federal capital and now,it is beauty to behold.Would you give it to the gwari people that they built Abuja through their dexterity? We have the pictures, history and many more of Lagos for at least 50yrs before Nigeria ever came to existence. Nigeria, thru her colonial masters, beneficially selected Lagos as her capital because Lagos already had all what it takes to be a capital city, even ahead of some capital cities in Asia and South America. I'm sure many cities in your region today were just farmlands, hunting forest or waste lands as of 1850 when Lagos was already a blooming port-city, transacting with the likes of Liverpool City port etc. |

From Iseyin to Ibadan is 2 hours ( wetin still remain for oyo again?) while from nsukka to Enugu town is 2 hours if not more that’s Enugu state alone, even at that Igbos doesn’t boast about empty size but capacity and capability. Go to Middle East and see how Isreal the size of Enugu state put the entire Middle East in fear , with exception of America and China most of the countries world powers today are not big in size If it takes you 2hrs to travel from Nsuka to Onitsha, a less than 60KM distance, then something is wrong somewhere. The development/infrastructure you want to claim here might not be available afterall. |
Politics › Re: Why The South-east Is Nigeria’s Fastest Growing And Urbanising Region—and Why... by Raf4: 9:58am On May 27, 2025 |
gidgiddy: Let's just assume that the South East is about the size of Oyo State. What they are doing in that South East speaks for its self. Outside Lagos, no other city has the highest number of story buildings than Onitsha
The question South Westerners should ask themselves is why is it that beyond Lagos that was capital of Nigeria for 80 years, and Ibadan that was capital of the old Western Region and now capital of Oyo, they have no cities worthy of note?
Aba, Nnewi and Onitsha are cities, they have never been capital of anywhere. The fact that the South West has so much land should have been a golden opportunity to show their development power. Yet if they are asked were they made a noteworthy place that was never capital, they will tell you Sango-otta Having storied buildings is not totally a sign of development. Ratio of population to land availability may determine it. Southwesterners might use an acre of land to build a bungalow and still be fine with it. Mind you, there's no state in SE that is as industrialised as Oyo state, while Ogun state is more industrialised than the entire SE states combined. I haven't mentioned Lagos yet. |

PHIPEX: Does this explain the decaying cities around you? Anambra's population is equal to Ogun population yet you can't compare the 2 in civil development of their cities. Same applies to others states.
It has little to do with landmass, otherwise we can also argue that Lagos is developed because it has the 2nd smallest landmass in Nigeria Whatever gives you bloated massaged egos....... The same Ogun gives succour and economic asylum to numerous anambrarians. How many indigenes is seeking same from Anambra? |

The only reason this is possible is because the whole of SE, available to about 40million ndigbos, is about the size of Oyo state. Imagine if the whole of Yoruba is confined in Oyo state. All the people, infrastructure, industrial and residential estates in the SW concentrated in Oyo state. Imagine all the old wealth (Da Rocha, Odutolas, Fajemirokuns, Okunowos, Kukus, MKO, Adebisis etc) and current wealth (Adenugas, Alakijas, Tinubus, Kensingtons, Okoyas, Adelekes, Otedolas etc) with all the religious and educational institutions etc are all in Oyo state. SW would have turned to one mega city, and probably the biggest in the world. You will just discover that your living room is in Lagos State while your bedroom falls within Ogun state. Or you and your girlfriend strolling down the street and you just discover that while you're walking on the Osun state side of the road, your girlfriend is on Ekiti state side. |

It's possible at some time there was caretaker king and it could be Obalufon based on artistical archaeological facts seen in Ife. Logically you sef reason am.
