I know this info i posted below would help someone and also lay to rest the question on how to get your baby's passport and visa. Ngwa were ya(take it):

STAGES OF PROCESSING OF YANKEE PASSPORT (FOR ELPASO MUMS ONLY)
1. GIVE BIRTH TO YOUR LOVELY BABY
2. FILL THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE FORM PROPERLY WHEN IN HOSPITAL (FINE IS $10,000 OOO)
3. CHECK WEBSITE AFTER WEEK TO CHECK IF THE BC IS READY FOR PICK UP. (www. epcounty.com) Click on Public Relations, then birth records, then input your baby’s names has given in the hospital, then follow the instructions.
4. GO TO WALGREENS AT FOUNTAINS (or any walgreens of your choice) FOR BABY’S PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH. The price is $12.98, wait to collect receipt.
5. FILL THE DS11 FORM AND PREPARE DUMMY TICKET FOR EXPEDITED PROCESS.
6. WHEN YOU CONFIRM NO3 IS READY FOR PICK UP, THEN GO TO NO7.
7. CALL TO BOOK APPOINTMENT FOR AMERICAN PASSPORT ON (18774872778) AUTOMATED JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION AND GET PEN AND PAPER BEFORE CALLING. Select South for region when requested.
8. PURCHASE MONEY ORDER AT WALMART FOR THE PASSPORT FEES $165 (Pls don’t pay more than 25cents as commission)
9. GO COLLECT YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE ON THE DAY OF YOUR PASSPORT APPOINTMENT AND STRAIGHT TO PASSPORT OFFICE (Note: go to (www.travel.state.gov) for passport requirement.) Call Jamine the cab driver for smooth journey to the BC office. You will walk to the Passport office after collecting the BC. Cost of BC is $23. You can request for more than 1 BC if you wish.
10. PASSPORT OFFICE ADDRESS IS 303 N OREGON, DOWNTOWN 7TH FLOOR. TX 79901. ( The passport office is a walking distance from the BC office)
11. NIGERIAN VISA APPLICATION. CONTACT EDWIN ON (7703696509)

Twizzie I paid for 1month o n it's non-refundable! E don bizzle on me big time! I neva imagined i'll be all alone o! This crossland people do me strong thing! Anyway God dey. D place is actually very nice, I just walk into d malls for all d shopping. They av Burlington baby depot, walmart, target, Ross, Costco etc just a walk-in distance n d hospital is about 7min with cab. I like it, just loneliness datzall. Let's see aw it goes.

Abeg how much does it cost and how far from the hospital is it?

Blogerina did you pay a surgical assistant fee. It's listed in Dr Hyunh's package.

You would only need a consent form if one parent os absent. If both are with the baby they can apply with no wahala.

Is it possible to process and obtain the baby's US passport within two days in downtown Houston like the Tucson passport office.

If both hubby nd wife will be present, they won't need d consent form.

I remember a few threada back some one saying a notarised consent from the embassy is needed. You cant even do it before the pikin comes cos d embassy official will stamp the date on it.

Hello Raii,
Phema has answered your questions precisely. Those are the things I wanted to tell you too. However, when it all comes down to making your decision, pls be sure that the "family" you have in houston will really be available to assist you when you deliver. Also, you will most likely have to give them some money while you are there for groceries, utility etc. Some "family members" have been known to bcom crancky and uncomfortable when you stay with them for long because your presence in their house will cost them money one way or the other. US pple are not as accomodating as we are in Naija, especially for long stays like childbirth (10-12weeks).
In then end, like Phema said, use WHMC for your visa interview (because you'll have doctor's correspondence to present) but maybe you should just go to MIHS when you are ready, rent your own accomodation and live comfortably without inconveniencing anyone and be in control of your spending& bills. Hope you get my drift?

For flight ticket costs, it varies per airline, you'll have to check online and do that homework yourself. It all depends on the airline, period of travel, sale/promo times etc.

Thanks Blogerina. You have opened my eyes. Id be going with my mom n Plan to stay with her brother. The thought of being in the same US and her not seeing him na war o that is why i was looking at WHMC. So if I decide on MIHS. Id prob stop over at Houston then onward Phoenix.

Is the spread sheet for interview purposes? If yes, please go with WHMC. Truth is, MIHS does not have good correspondence and Dr's appointment. These two are very important for interview. Some people may have been granted visas with the MIHS documentation, but the chances are not fantastic.

As for where you really want to go; it's totally up to you. If you have close family in Houston, you may as well stick with WHMC. Cos the accommodation cost, feeding, transportation and flight to Phoenix will make up the difference for the higher hospital bill at WHMC. And you have the advantage of having family around which is invaluable.

The flight fares to both destinations depend on your itinerary. Houston is usually about #40-50k cheaper though.

Na for interview o. I plan to use WHMC for the interview. Thanks for the breakdown.

I am a tad confused. I tried preparing two spreadsheets for whmc and mihs(based on the old price) each. With whmc, id be staying with family while mihs id be renting.

Can some one please help me with the average flight costs+accommodation for houston and phoenix please? To me, whmc seems a better option.

Don't mind me, some days can be very boring. I don't really understand the question about DS160 but if it's like you updated your record on DS160 you don't need to edit anything on your appointment. Print the new DS160 confirmation and present it at the interview. We await your testimony.

If you are using dr huynh at whmc, if you send her ordinary medical report, she will respond saying the info is not enough (because the medical report is like a summary). Just print that email and show your gynae at your next Antenatal appointment. Ofcourse he will say they can't give you your file etc, just say thank you sir. Then take the same email to records dept, ask for their supervisor, talk to them sweetly and politely that you don't want your file, you just need scanned copies of everyth in your file since you got pregnant. Then send them a mail saying so. The manager will work on your email request. You can follow up with phone calls.
Talk to them nicely. Smile and be pleasant. They will give you what you want without you spending a dime

I think it depends on you but most mamas jst used a doctor's appointment but u can show tge VO a document showing the bills you would be paying and your acct statement showing enough funds.

St Nicholas does not charge anything for medical report & fitness to fly. I can attest to that. Just tell your gynae what you want so he's aware coz he has to sign it and the send an email to their records departement. Its free. They will even scan your entire file for you and send you soft copy if you specifically ask for that. You don't need a printout of your ultrasounds for dr huynh, a scanned copy will do

Blogerina St Nichs refused to copy my file. They insisted I see my gynae who agreed to a medical report. He also said he would attach some tests. Id pick it up next week and see what is in it.

anonymousmum: With regard to the medical records, the contents of your records is your property, however the actual documentation i.e your case file, and the test results is the property of the hospital and they can charge any amount for copies to be made.

Medical report (a one-pager ) from LUTH / other general hospitals is 15k.

Like Tvegas said, ur leaving them is a loss of income for them.

I use St Nicholas and I am just waiting for a hefty bill when I want to request for all these docs, wetin man go do.

They treat the records as if it were something sacred. Maybe they want to avoid a lawsuit incase of misdiagnosis.

For newbies who want info, you could do a nairaland Google search on the thread. Makes it easier but be prepared to read a lot still so u can be fully informed.

sessibasi: Hi dearie. I went to Tucson for my baby's passport cuz I dint av time at hand again. Luckily d cab guy dat took me to vitals office advised I cud take a bus to and fro tucson cuz cab to tucson is like $300 if u get a good bargain. I booked my trip to tucson with greyhound express bus service. It's d same time to get to tucson as a cab also. And my ticket to tucson and back was just $15 including tax. Den I took a cab from their station to d passport agency. My appointment was for 11am, got there 10am, passport was ready by 2pm I waited there till pp was ready and went back to tempe on d last bus to phoenix. Simple. I stayed in tempe but greyhound also has a station in phoenix. Just Google greyhound express u'l see and book ur ticket. I paid online. I hope dis helps u. Will advise u take ur baby along in a baby carrier cuz dey will check in ur stroller and carseat as luggage. I dint know so I carried my baby on my laps to and fro during d bus ride. And d buses are very comfortable with Internet and charging points

That was super fast. So its possible to get all docs within 3wks.

Also, on the document processing, does it mean one has to go all the way to Tucson before you can apply for passport? Thought one could do via the post office? Also, the notarized letter of consent, can I take along now before baby is born since hubby won't be around or it has to be after baby is born?
