CHOOSE-YOUR-PROJECT PROGRAM: ONITSHA GETS DOUBLE, AS OBIANO DOLES OUT N40m By Kingsley Ezekwelu The Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano has specially doubled the fund for the choose-your-project program for Onitsha community to forty million (N40m) Naira, for obvious reasons. This was announced by the governor during the 2016 Ofala Festival of the traditional ruler and Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Achebe at the Imeobi Palace ground, Onitsha. The governor had noted that Onitsha Metropolitan city comprises two local governments with large land mass and human population, and explained that the additional amount was due to the commercial city's strategic role in the socio-economic development of the state. That it was therefore proper that the community be given additional funds in the spirit of equity and fairness. He described Ofala Festival as an ancient tradition which Ndigbo are proud of and urged the community to sustain and enrich it for posterity. He harped on the need for the people to support Igwe Achebe in the onerous task of administering the affairs of the big commercial community, describing him as a man of integrity. In his Ofala message, Igwe Achebe x-rayed the state of the nation and happenings globally, and urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to cushion the heavy burden of the present economic recession on the people and to be more focused in its fight against corruption. He commended Gov Obiano for leading the state with tact and vision even in the face of daunting economic challenges and prayed for a prosperous years ahead for people of the State and the community. The governor also later attended the "Iwa Ji" Festival of Obosi Kingdom in Idemili North Council Area where he equally announced additional #20 million for the community under the Choose-your-project initiative. He called on youths in the community to support the ongoing peace initiative in the town to ensure that they remain on the path of growth and advancement. http:///forum/general-discussion/choose-your-project-program-onitsha-gets-double-obiano-doles-out-n40m

The Anambra State Government has ordered principals of public secondary schools in the state to immediately refund all illegal levies collected from students or face sanctions. The Chairman of the state Post Primary Schools Services Commission, Mrs. Joy Ulasi, announced this in a joint management meeting with principals of schools held at the commission’s headquarters in Awka Monday. It was gathered that this might not be unconnected with the abolition of some taxes and levies in the state as measures to cushion the effect of the economic downtown in the country on the people by Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano. A statement by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Felix Uzor, warned that “henceforth any principal whose act would constitute sabotage to Obiano’s recession relief package would be removed as a school principal.” The statement said: “She directed the principals of all secondary schools in the state to refund to the students any levy collected without approval letter on or before October, 12. The statement read in part, “The chairman of Anambra State Post Primary Service Commission, Lady Joy Ulasi has announced ban on collection of machetes and hoes from any student in public secondary schools in the state for the next three years, as well as other items not expressly approved. “Schools should make judicious use of the matches and hoes collected from students in previous years to do manual labour in schools. The President of Association of Principals of Secondary schools in the state, Victor, had in his remarks warned those he called “bad eggs” among principals to desist from soiling the names of majority of the principals who had worked so hard to place Anambra tops on the academic map. http:///forum/general-discussion/tax-waiver-obiano-orders-principals-refund-all-illegal-levies |
Olorunmaiye Joshua Oluwabusola ESQ an NYSC corps member serving in the Attorney General’s Chambers, Ministry of Justice, Awka with state code AN/15B/3825 from kogi state scheduled to pass out alongside my Stream 2 colleagues on November 4, 2016 have recently completed his fourth and final community development project, which is sited at the Jerome Udorji Civil Service Secretariat Headquarters, Awka. He had this to say.. “I am Olorunmaiye Joshua Oluwabusola ESQ., an outgoing Batch B corps member from Kogi State serving at the Attorney General’s Chambers, Ministry of Justice, Awka with state code AN/15B/3825. I am scheduled to pass out alongside my Stream 2 colleagues on November 4, 2016. I recently completed my fourth and final community development project, which is sited at the Jerome Udorji Civil Service Secretariat Headquarters, Awka, and I am happy to share it with you. It is my hope that this story would be an inspiration to youths in Nigeria tobmake a difference, and also bring hope to the citizens of Anambra State and Awka in particular. I had previously contributed to the Awka community through the follwing projects; 1. Organized free seminars in secondary schools in Awka South on Child Abuse. 2. Organized a free seminar for adults in Awka South on ‘The Importance of Writing a Property Will.’ 3. Human Rights Sentisization at the Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABC) tagged ‘Know Your Rights’. As a lawyer, I was still eager to leave something behind that can always be seen and appreciated. Hence my decision to engage in one final act of mass literacy in the form of human rights enlightenment. This has been actualized by my construction of a 6feet high concrete book, outlining the 12 Fundamental Rights as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended ). The motive for me was to inspire hope and empower the Awka people with knowledge of their non-derogable rights. Rights that the Constitution guarantees to all and sundry irrespective of whether a person is rich or poor. The message is that we must yet still hope and believe that we are all important…by virtue of these rights, we are all human and should be so treated.” http://www.awkacity.com/2016/10/see-what-a-corps-member-did-for-awka/

Abagworo:name the areas you're uploading. These pictures have been circulated in nairaland many times and it's not awka. It's a community that took those pictures of the road that has already been scrapped but was not tarred because of excessive rain. Look closely and you'll notice the pile of sands by the side. |
