It was solely Mourinhos decision not to overhaul the team. You cannot say you want to overhaul the team yet be giving them extensions.
While Pep cut out Sagna Clichy, Yaya, Zabaleta, etc, Mourinho and Man Utd were negotiating extensions for Smalling Young, Darmian Rojo etc and giving Alexis a fat contract. OGS who is a rookie just sent 4 unproductive players out. Smalling Darmian, Sanchez and sky did not fall. You cannot be piling up foolish players and still complain about not being backed

As at end of last season Man utd had Smalling Jones, Lindelof Rojo and Bailly for central defence alone Add Darmian, Young Dalot to it. How many of these are actually useful for a serious team

If Martial led the line, that wouldn't have happened because truth be told, he's more intelligent than Rashford and doesn't engage in cooking beans or doing bff with Lingard.
