CrimeContestant For Ooni Stool In Alleged N400m Fraud, Forgery- EFCC by RawJooh(op): 1:23am On Oct 02, 2015
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has begun investigation into allegations of forgery, fraudulent conversion and obtaining the sum of N400m by false pretence against Mr. Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his firm, Metropole Interproject Limited. Ogunwusi is one of the contestants for the vacant stool of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Osun State. In a petition written by the chambers of Rotimi Jacobs & Co. dated September 7, 2015, Messrs Sijuwade Holdings Limited stated that in 1993, it purchased a parcel of land measuring 30,000 square metres from the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family at the Lekki peninsula, Lagos, and duly obtained the Governor’s Consent to the transaction.

Thereafter, SHL claimed it entered into an agreement with Metropole Interproject Limited for the latter to sand-fill the entire parcel of land, and that upon completion of the sand filling, Metropole would be given 7,500 square metres from the land “to serve as the company’s fees.” The petition stated that after the completion of the sand-filling, Metropole offered to develop the remaining portion of land for SHL, adding that the offer was accepted on the condition that the development would be in phases.

The responsibilities of Metropole as stated in the Development Mandate Agreement included the funding of the development and procurement of all necessary permits from the federal and Lagos State governments; as well as the funding/construction of 24 duplex units on the 7,500 square metres and this was to form the basis of Metropole’s equity in the project entitling the developer to 16 units out of the 24.

PoliticsMilitary Action Alone Can’t Win Terror War- Buhari by RawJooh(op): 9:26am On Sep 30, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said military action alone could never be enough to end the menace of terrorism and extremism currently eating deep into global polity. He said adherence to good governance, transparency, accountability and rule of law, were some of the best ways to start the process of ridding the world of terrorism. Buhari made his position known in a statement he delivered at a Global Leaders’ Summit on Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism organized by President Barack Obama on the sideline of the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He said while military action was not enough, it was however capable of stemming the tide and reversing the process of recruitment, movement and effective operation of foreign terrorists’ fighters and their associated radical elements. He said while Nigeria noted the efforts being made by the UN and the international community to tackle ISIL, a lot more needed to be done.

Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday, gave what he termed as genuine reasons the United Nations should allow Biafra to be separated from Nigeria.

One of the reasons, he stated, was that the population of the former Eastern state, now South East and part of South South that make up Biafra land can currently boast of over 10 million people, adding that the Biafran people naturally do not share similar culture and tradition with Hausa-Fulani of the North and Yoruba of the South West as to continue to remain together under one country called Nigeria.

PoliticsSenators Set For Stormy Session Tomorrow- Saraki by RawJooh(op): 12:43pm On Sep 28, 2015
There are indications that Senators that are opposed to Dr. Bukola Saraki’s leadership of the Senate are poised to ask for his resignation when the upper federal legislative chamber re-opens on Tuesday (tomorrow). The anti-Saraki Senators are citing the trial of the Senate president by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration as a reason for Saraki to go while his supporters are saying the man should not be proclaimed guilty before he goes through the judicial process. The Senate will resume plenary on Tuesday. The lawmakers have been on break since August 13.

Investigations by our correspondents in Abuja on Sunday indicated that both anti-Saraki Senators and those supporting the Senate president are poised for a showdown when they return to the chambers. While the anti-Saraki Senators are said to be resolute in their plot to end his leadership of the Senate, the pro-Saraki members are said to have vowed to ensure that the man is not forced out of office.

PoliticsSaraki’s Trial Purely A Judicial Process •senate President Appeals Against Arres by RawJooh(op): 11:17am On Sep 21, 2015
THE PRESIDENCY said on Sunday that the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration was purely a judicial process. President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement, caution against linking the President with the Saraki’s trial, saying Buhari had no hand in the trial. Shehu said there was no provision in the law for the Code of Conduct Bureau and the CCT to take instructions from any quarters, describing as uninformed the views that the CCT, which he said was equal to any superior court of record, could only act upon external instigation. “As an independent institution equal to any superior court of record, the tribunal is set up by the Constitution to determine the issue of default, false declaration or forgery in assets declaration. This therefore is purely a judicial process and has nothing to do with the Presidency,” the statement noted.
