PoliticsBoss Mustapha Breaks Silence On Being Reappointed SGF by Raydommy(op): 4:32am On Jul 08, 2019
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has described his reappointment as a humbling experience and a call for rededication.

The SGF, who spoke to newsmen on Sunday at the Yola International Airport on his way back to Abuja after a weekend visit to Adamawa State, said he found his reappointment to be both thrilling and challenging.

“I’m overwhelmed by the level of confidence in me by the president and the entire nation to handle the affairs of state from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. In the last couple of days, I have been weighed down by the enormity of the responsibility of my office and the trust placed on me,” he said.

Mustapha added that he feels he must take his responsibilities seriously because they impact greatly on the destinies of the many people that make up Nigeria.

“Generally, I am thrilled , I am excited because of the responsibilities, but I am also conscious of the fact that this is a trust and I must not take it lightly,” he said.

The SGF added that he felt he owed it to God and man to do his work diligently. “I must do everything to honour God and to justify the trust in me by Mr President,” he said.

Responding to a question on the level of unemployment in the country, Mustapha said no Nigerian leader had ever pledged to take a hundred million people out of poverty as President Muhammadu Buhari has promised.

HealthAfter 11-year Coma, Doctors Remove Man’s Life Support, Dad Says It’s ‘murder’ by Raydommy(op):
The father of Vincent Lambert, a severely brain-damaged patient at the heart of a bitter right-to-die case, on Sunday denounced his son’s “murder” after a French hospital began removing him from life support.

“It’s murder in disguise, it’s euthanasia,” 90-year-old Pierre Lambert told journalists at Sebastopol hospital in the northeastern city of Reims, where his son has been in a vegetative state since a car accident in 2008.

The crash left him a quadriplegic with severe brain damage that doctors say is irreversible. But the question of whether to continue keeping him alive artificially has divided his family and the nation.

On Tuesday, doctors began taking him off life support just days after a final ruling by France’s highest appeals court on a case which has taken the warring Lambert family to France and Europe’s top courts over the past six years.

Lambert’s deeply-Catholic parents, Pierre and Vivianne, have both fought passionately to keep him alive along with two of his siblings, while his wife Rachel and six other brothers and sisters believe he should have the right to die with dignity.

Both parents were at his bedside on Sunday just days after doctors began removing his water and feeding tubes while ensuring a “profound and continuous sedation”.

Denouncing the court decision as “madness”, the pair believe their son is merely handicapped and have fought to have him moved to a specialist treatment unit.

Backing them is a Facebook group called “I support Vincent” which pledged to hold a demonstration in Paris on Monday which will be attended by the parents’ lawyers.

PoliticsOkorocha: Oshiomhole And Magu Met Secretly On How To Jail Me by Raydommy(op): 10:34am On Jul 07, 2019
Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State says he got information from a top detective at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, were holding secret meetings on how to send him to jail.

“The arrowhead of this plot is Adams Oshiomhole. He has vowed that he will block you from realising your ambition and the first step towards achieving this was to make sure your preferred successor did not emerge. He has been having secret meetings with our Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, over your matter.

“One of my colleagues, Abdullahi, has been given the task to liaise with INEC and meet with one Aminu in the legal department of INEC and two powerful women in the department as well as some national commissioners over your matter.”

In his originating motion with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/475/19, the former governor said he had come under serious attack from Oshiomhole because he worked against the latter’s bid to become the chairman of the APC.

In a supporting affidavit, Okorocha said Oshiomhole also blamed him for his detention by the Department of State Services during the build-up to the 2019 general elections.

The Imo-West senator said his wife, children and in-laws were already being targeted for arrest.

It stated further, “The plan has now reached a crescendo and desperation in view of the failure of the respondents to find anything incriminating against me and the decision now taken by the instigator of the respondents is to arrest and detain me in Abuja.”

In a counter-affidavit, however, the EFCC denied all the allegations levelled against it by Okorocha.

In the counter-affidavit deposed to by one Samson Oloje, a litigation officer with the commission, the EFCC said Okorocha’s claim that an operative informed him of secret meetings between Oshiomhole and Magu was baseless.

The counter-affidavit read in part, “No operative of the 4th respondent (EFCC) called Musa Muhammed or by any other name sent a phone text message to the applicant in April 2019 or anytime material herein about any secret meeting involving the acting chairman of the 4th respondent and Adams Oshiomhole about plans being made by the 4th respondent in relation to the applicant (Okorocha).

“That no operative of the 4th respondent called Abdullahi or by any other name has been given the task to liaise with INEC, Aminu of INEC and/or any other person to decimate the applicant politically and/or annihilate him.”

TV/MoviesSocial Media Angered As Bbnaija Housemates Fail To Impress At Their First Party by Raydommy(op): 8:00am On Jul 07, 2019
Fans of BBNaija reality TV show are not impressed at the first party of the “Pepper Dem” edition as housemates fail to entertain during the Saturday groove.

While a few ladies like Thelma took the front stage and owned it, most of the ladies were mostly captured taking selfies instead of doing the needful.

As for the guys, it seemed there was a wall that bridged them from getting body contacts with the ladies. They took the bad stage with their traditional wears in a club and dark shades at night; I mean who does that?

PoliticsWike, Makinde React To Gbajabiamila’s Alleged Attempt To Impose Minority Leaders by Raydommy(op): 2:32pm On Jul 04, 2019
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike Thursday condemned the alleged attempt by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to impose leaders on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Wike described the move as treachery which was not surprising.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Governor of Oyo State, Oluseyi Makinde, at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday, Wike regretted that trading has been placed above party loyalty at the House.

The governor stated that he was purely a party loyalist who believes in the ideals of the PDP.

He said: “I am not surprised. When you have traders and merchants, what do you expect?

“It is unfortunate for those who do not understand what politics is all about. I am a core party man. I believe in the party”.

The governor stated that peer review was necessary to advance the course of development across the states of the Federation.

“I am happy for this visit. We shall reciprocate the visit at the appropriate time.

It is good for us to continue to compare notes to learn best practices from each other,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the Oyo State Governor to move the state forward and entrench development.

Also speaking, Makinde said what happened at the House of Representatives where the position of the PDP was subverted called for concern.

“We all saw what happened at the National Assembly yesterday, they are things that calls for concern, if the party takes a position on certain things, we want to ensure that, that is carried through,” he said.

Makinde disclosed that he was in Rivers State to also discuss issues of true federalism and the role of states in the development process.

He commended Wike for his developmental strides during his first term, saying that he expects him to deliver more projects for the people.

“We have seen the giant strides of the Governor during his first term. We are here to learn from him”, he said.

PoliticsHDP Moves To Present Two Witnesses Against Buhari’s Re-election by Raydommy(op): 7:37pm On Jul 02, 2019
The Hope Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate in the February 23 election, Chief Ambrose Oworu, on Tuesday told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that they would call only two witnesses to prove their petition against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Counsel to Owuru and the HDP, Chukwu Njoku, stated this shortly after it adopted the petitioners pre-hearing information sheet filed on May 5, 2019.

Njoku further told the five member presidential panel headed by Justice Mohammed Garba that, “Subject to the convenience of the court they would be needing two days to establish their petition against the election of Buhari.

Counsel to President Buhari (1st respondent), Chief Alex Izinyon SAN, while also adopting his client’s pre-hearing information sheet filed on May 7, asked the tribunal for 7 days to call two witnesses and unspecified number of subpoenaed witnesses.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through its lead counsel, Yunus Usman SAN, asked for two days to call its only witness, just as counsel to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Akin Olujimi told the tribunal that seven days would be sufficient for them to call just two alongside some other subpoenaed witnesses against the HDP’s petition.

Meanwhile, the tribunal had fixed July 10 for hearing in a motion filed by the petitioners seeking to amend the statement of oath of the original witnesses to be called in support of the petition.

Justice Garba set the motion for hearing on the above date after Buhari, INEC and APC requested for time to respond to the motion, which they all said was served on them in court this morning.

Subsequently, Justice Garba ordered the respondents to file their responses within three days and the petitioners to reply on point of law within two days if they so desire.

Similarly, Justice Garba, will on the same July 10 deliver the tribunal’s ruling in INEC’s motion seeking the dismissal of the HDP’s petition for allegedly being incompetent and abuse of court process.

Owuru and the HDP in their petition dated March 7 and marked: PEPT/001/2019 are seeking the nullification of President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory at the poll on grounds of alleged Irregularities and violation of the 1999 Constitution as well as the Electoral Act.

According to them, the February 23 presidential election which produced Buhari for a second term in office was unlawful, illegal, unconstitutional and unknown to law and as such should be invalidated by the tribunal.

The petitioners had in one of their motions argued that the postponement of the election from February 16 to 23 had no backing of any law as no cogent and verifiable reason required by law were advanced for the postponement.

They insisted that the February 23 poll was never validly held by INEC and cannot produce any valid result or returns recognizable by law.

Citing several authorities to buttress their averment, the petitioners further submitted that since INEC breached the provisions of the Electoral Act especially section 26 to conduct the February 23 poll, the purported election cannot stand in the eyes of the law.

They therefore prayed for an order compelling INEC to produce at the tribunal notice of election, original time-table for February 16, the press statement of February 16 as well as minutes of meeting where the decision to postpone the February 16, presidential was held.

Another reason for their request for the nullification of the February 23, presidential poll was that despite their validly nominated candidates for the 2019 general elections, they were unlawfully excluded by INEC who delisted their names and party logo from the ballot papers.

Another grouse of the petitioners was that the electoral body placed a false version of their registered party logo on the ballot papers for elections and thereby cost them the chances of realizing their political ambition in the 2019 general elections.

PoliticsWe Were Called Prostitutes In Bauchi – Female Candidates Share Bitter Experience by Raydommy(op): 4:28pm On Jul 02, 2019
Women candidates in the last elections in Bauchi State have cried out for being tagged “prostitutes” for participating in politics.

A cross-section of the women who spoke at a Women Candidates Dialogue Forum, organized by the Young Leaders Network (YLN) which held in Bauchi lamented that this was discouraging women from engaging in politics.

The forum brought women from different political parties to assess the challenges they faced during the last general elections and sought for ways to address them.

Speaking during the interactions, the Green Party of Nigeria Candidate for Bogoro Constituency in the last election, Mantuda Adamu, who said that the major challenge she faced was in the aspect of finance, however, lamented that she was labelled a prostitute because of her doggedness.

She said: “As a woman, if you come out boldly to contest in Bauchi State, they will say you are a prostitute. If they call you for a meeting at about 10 or 11pm, people will say you want to go for business (prostitution) and not for politics.”

Adamu recounted that when she approached the major political parties to contest under their platforms, she realized that it was capital intensive because “most of the delegates asked me what I have to offer them.”

According to her: “Some of them asked for motorcycles, some for N100, 000 and some N50, 000. As a woman, if you are not in the position to offer them these, they won’t vote for you.”

Another candidate, Balkisu Ayuba, who contested the Dass Constituency under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said that some of the executives of the party said she would not be allowed to contest in the party because she was not yet married.

She stated that her life was also threatened on the day she flagged off her campaign.

“I had an accident the day I went to buy my nomination form and I also had another accident the day I flagged off my campaign, I got an anonymous call from a woman who said to me: “Step aside and don’t contest again or I swear to God, you will die if you refuse.

“I told her I won’t but at a point, I felt like quitting, it was my mentor that stopped me from doing that.”
