The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogidi in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was razed down on Sunday, February 3rd 2020.



The state Police Public Relations Officer Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident, saying the fire started at about 12.30 pm on Sunday



He added,

‘There was fire incident at INEC office Ogidi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

“Police patrol team led by DPO Ogidi Division rushed to the scene and fire Service department was contacted.

“Scene was cordoned off and effort is ongoing to put off the fire and prevent it from escalating to other adjourning buildings.

“The fire allegedly emanated from bush burning. However, extent of damages done yet to be determined.”

Mohammed said in another fire accident in the Onitsha on Sunday, seven people were wounded by the gas fire.

He said the fire which began at 10:30 am emanated from a faulty gas cylinder which exploded in a residential building, engulfing the entire building.

He added,

“The Fire allegedly emanated from a gas cooker recently procured which exploded in the course of using it for the first time.

“As a result, A total of seven persons sustained varying degrees of injuries while properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

“Following a distress call, police patrol team led by DPO inland town division rushed to the scene and the fire was put off by local volunteers.

The Federal government has warned Nigerians against travelling to China, following the recent outbreak of deadly Coronavirus in the Asian country.



Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire who made the call after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, also directed all airlines to report any case of a passenger falling sick on-board before the plane lands.

He said;

“In view of the trending stories around the Coronavirus, it has become very necessary to issue a travel advisory to Nigerians. The first is that all Nigerians and all from Nigeria, intending to travel to China should delay all their travel plans until further notice, except it is extremely essential for them to do that trip.

“All persons arriving from China or any country that has a major outbreak is advised, if they have no symptoms at all, to self-isolate, meaning that they stay indoors in their homes for at least two weeks and if they develop any symptoms, like cough, catarrh, sneezing, breathing difficulties within this period, to report to the nearest health facility.

“We are also advising all airlines to report any case of a passenger falling sick on-board before the plane lands. That is a requirement in the agreement. Nigerian Port Health Services, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control are on alert at our airports and other points of entry. That is the advisory.”

Following the death by hanging verdict handed down to Maryam Sanda for stabbing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, a Nigerian doctor identified as Anenya Ushakuma Michael, has asked that his wife be left to live and take care of their children if she ever does kill him.

Ex Super Eagles Midfielder, Christian Obodo, and his mother survived a ghastly auto accident in Delta State, on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The accident occured along the Ozo road in Delta state, leaving the blue saloon car badly damaged



Narrating the ordeal, Obodo revealed the accident was the second he had this year.

“That was two days ago I was coming back from Enugu where I went to bury my Uncle on the 16th,” he said about the car wreckage.
“At about 3pm along Ozoro, I was driving at about 110 [km/h].

“The road was a freeway, but then I noticed a pothole and started to pump the brakes to avoid running into it. But as I was trying to avoid running into a ditch in the middle of the road, then I lost control of the car and the next thing I knew, the car flipped as we were thrown off the road into a pillar.

“I had my 65 year-old mum and younger brother with me in the car; we came through without a scratch. When I went back to see the wreckage, I burst into tears because I knew I was lucky to be alive.”

“The first incident happened on the 16th of this month, I was driving to my Community with two relatives when a trailer, crashed into us from behind. The driver said the truck had no brakes and he had lost control at the time.”

In 2012, the former Udinese man was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen near Warri, Delta State. He was rescued the next day in nearby Isoko by men of the Nigerian police force.

Toke Makinwa has shared her thoughts on divorce and domestic violence from the standpoint of the Nigerian culture.





The media personality who advocated for people to walk away from their marriages when it’s no longer working, insisted that “nobody is worth throwing the rest of your life in jail or even worse a death sentence for”.

Toke Makinwa noted that though most people say that divorce is not an option, a sin and not in our tradition, they will however only cry when one “throws his or her life away”.



“I know some conversations are tough but they must be had, nobody is worth throwing the rest of your life in jail or even worse, a death sentence, anger is evil, choose your mental health and walk away always. It’s hard, it’s tough but one minute of anger can take away everything

Wife of prolific Afro juju singer, Sir Sina Peters, has stated that she would rather share her husband with a side chic, rather than lose him to another woman.

Sammie Peter’s who celebrated her 60th birthday party penultimate week in Lagos amidst pomp and pageantry, opened up on her almost-40-year-old union with the handsome musician who will soon be 62 years old.

Speaking exclusively to Kemi Ashefon during an interview at their Lagos home, Sammie Peters revealed that their marriage had been intact despite all odds because she decided to understand what makes her kind of marriage work.

“I’m married to a musician and I knew from the beginning that women don’t allow musicians to rest. The journey of marriage has been hectic, beautiful, challenging but never rocky. I’ve never thought of divorce in the union and neither has my husband.

Even with some concubines lurking around her handsome husband?

She said, “That has not affected my marriage. I’d always said and believed that I’d rather share my husband than lose him to any other woman. That has always been my stance even as a young wife. This is not to encourage my husband or other husbands out there to cheat on their wives, but I adopted that attitude to stay happy and not develop high blood pressure. What I cannot change, I pray to God and He answers me. Nothing my husband does affects me. My love for him is unconditional and nothing can separate me from my husband. I understand him perfectly, we love each other and he has always respected me. He has never brought another woman to our matrimonial home. I love my husband, I would always love him and I don’t think the love will reduce no matter what happens to us.”




Still talking in glowing terms about her husband, Sammie Peters recalled how she met him. She said, “I met Sir Shina Peters when I was 21. Our parents were close and at a stage they claimed we were related. But we are not—we are just from the same town. We have been together all these years.”

Sammie advised women on the best approach to living happily in a marriage without suffering from high blood pressure. “When going into marriage, ask God for patience. Respect your husband even when he has done something wrong. Let him have his food and don’t shout on him. Give room for dialogue and allow him to tell lies even when you know he is a liar. Moreover, if you can just look away and know that men are natural cheats, you would be at peace and pray to God to make your husband respect you and the home. Even if he’s cheating, pray that he doesn’t embarrass you and he should be respectful about those affairs.”

She didn’t spare side chics either. “Women are women’s problems. Side chics are heartless and would be dating a married man. You break another woman’s home just because of money. Don’t make another woman cry. Leave their husbands alone,” she said.

Nigerian celebrity cross-dresser, Bobrisky, has been arrested in his Lagos home

He was picked up, last night, at his residence inside Bera Estate, Chevron Drive, #Lekki and whisked away to an unknown destination.

According to reports, the officers who arrested him, brought him back this morning to move all his cars.

It was gathered that his arrest is linked to his “cross-dressing” activities, although this hasn’t been verified.

One of the officers was also quoted as saying

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has vowed to sack public office holders caught lobbying.

The governor said this on Wednesday while swearing in four new Permanent Secretaries ”I will reverse the appointment of anyone who comes to lobby for posting.”

Those sworn in include ace journalist, Abdullahi S. Danko, Amina Mohammed Jekada , Bandado S. Bande and Hssaini S. Gobir.

Tambuwal described their appointments as well deserved and also urged the appointees to deploy their energy and wealth of experience for the tasks ahead of them.

“I am convinced that you are all experienced personnel and you know the rudiments which will add value to the development and productivity of the service to the people of the state”, he said.

No fewer than seven people were reportedly killed during a violent clash between two rival cultic groups, which started on Monday in Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday, said that the groups, KK and Eiye Confraternities, were involved in the incident.

Elkana said that the command immediately responded and arrested 10 suspects. He explained that the fracas, leading to deaths, started when argument ensued between two members of the cult groups, while one of the fighters was stabbed.

The police spokesman said that the gang whose member was stabbed, believing him to be dead, launched a retaliatory attack on members of the rival group.

He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumisu, immediately called for an emergency meeting and summoned the Area Commander, DPOs and the tactical commanders where the incident occurred.

According to him, the police chief also deployed the Special Strike Force men to arrest the social miscreants and deal with the situation.

Elkana recalled that a programme had earlier been organised for cult members to renounce their membership, “so the CP is determined to deal with the menace in the state”.

Reacting to the development, Mr Fatiu Salisu, Chairman, Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), told NAN that the clash started on Jan. 20 when a man was reportedly stabbed with a bottle and was rushed to the General Hospital.

Salisu said that the man was rejected due to the nature of his injuries and was later referred to a teaching hospital where he was attended to.

According to him, some of his members thought he had died, and thereafter resulted to revenge mission in the community.

We have intimate the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner of Police on what was going on in the community,” he said.

In his reactions, Chief Babatunde Ogunmuyiwa, the Secretary to the traditional ruler in Ijede, told NAN that the incident started on Jan. 20 when some boys from Ipakan and Egbin engaged in a fracas and one of them was badly injured with a bottle.

Ogunmuyiwa said the boy was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment, but some of his members spread rumours that he was dead, which led to the fracas.

“After series of investigation, we realised it was a rivalry clash between fraternities.

“We called an emergency meeting among the chiefs and resolved that we should appease the gods.

“The community has been peaceful since most of the boys renounced their membership until this moment,” he said.

Media Mogul, Dele Momodu has reacted to the Presidential Election Tribunal judgment that dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate Atiku Abubakar challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election.

DAILY POST reported earlier that the Justice Mohammed Garba,-led Tribunal dismissed Atiku and PDP petition in its entirety.

President Buhari’s victory in the 2019 presidential election was upheld by tribunal after it dismissed the petition filed by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democtatic Party (PDP).

The court ruled that Buhari was duly elected as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the presidential election held on 23rd February, 2019.

The tribunal ruled that electronic transfer of results which was the crux of the opposition’s petition did not take place at any level.

Momodu, reacting on his Twitter page explained that he will move on and accept Atiku’s defeat in peace when “Supreme Court gives better interpretation to the petitions.”

The media mogul added that he is not surprised by the presidential Tribunal judgement which upheld Buhari’s victory.

Momodu on his Twitter page wrote: “I will be most happy and impressed if the Supreme Court can give a better interpretation to things so obvious and if they don’t, I will move on in peace.

“Experience is the best teacher, Our country is too complex and complicated. If MKO ABIOLA could be turned from the winner to a prisoner, nothing can shock me again. Presidential Tribunal judgement.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the ruling of the presidential election petition tribunal on the February 23, 2019 poll, as a victory for Nigerians who trooped out to overwhelmingly elect him for a second term in office.

Speaking shortly after the tribunal upheld his victory, the president said he was not worried about the petition filed to challenge the outcome of the election because he knew that Nigerians elected him.

“Good conscience fears no evil report. I was unperturbed all along, because I knew Nigerians freely gave us the mandate. We are now vindicated,” Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari to have said.

Adesina said Buhari dedicated the victory to God, and to Nigerians, while also commending the judiciary for “dispensing justice without fear or favour.”

He said the president has extended a hand of fellowship to those who had felt aggrieved at the outcome of the election, and went to court, noting that it was within their democratic rights.

“It is time for the country to move forward as one cohesive body, putting behind us all bickering and potential distractions over an election in which Nigerians spoke clearly and resoundingly,” he was quoted to have said.

An unclad man was filmed after he was nabbed having sexual intercourse with a 14 year-old-maid on her employer’s matrimonial bed.

In the now-viral video, the man, who is said to be a gateman to the neighbour of the employer, was seen completely naked on the ground while eyewitnesses kept condemning him for his actions

The security guard had left his duty post to commit the evil act with the underage girl and according to the video, he has been doing for about two weeks.

One of the eyewitness revealed that the gateman is from Nassarawa state.

A near-tragic incident occurred last night at the Minna International Airport as a plane conveying over 600 pilgrims returning from the 2019 annual pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia crash landed.



Though no one was injured or died in the incident, however, the passengers were all in panic. The aircraft said to be a Boeing 744 with registration number 5N/ DBK, skidded off the runway after developing a technical fault in one of its tyres.



The Nation reported that the Public Relations Officer of the Niger state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hajia Hassana Isah confirmed the incident but did not give further details.



A Twitter user who revealed that his cousin was among the passengers of the aircraft, said the incident occurred because the control tower was not ready to receive them.



“Gisting with my couz who just came back from Saudi Arabia (Hajj). So they crash landed last night at minna airport cause the control tower was not ready to receive them or so, apparently, there was no light (Power) at the airport. Niger Power state.” he tweeted.

It was further gathered that five officials of the Accident Bureau of Investigation from Lagos went into a closed door meeting with the management of the airport, after arriving the facility and inspecting the partly damaged aircraft.



A senior official of the airport also revealed that that the airport would have been razed down if the aircraft which crash-landed had caught fire. According to him, the airport has no fire fighting vehicles.



“The fire that would have followed would have spread to all parts of the airport because we don’t have fire fighting vehicles in this airport”, a senior Official of the airport said.

A Twitter user @oluyemifasipe has taken to the micro-blogging platform to share the story of how Adetutu, a staff of First Bank branch in Akure, the state capital, was murdered by suspected hired assassins.

According to the user, the suspected hired assassins disguised as customers before opening fire on her after she took to her heels.

Adetutu was a staff of the FirstBankngr branch in the Akure city – where she worked based on contract – in charge of the Point of Sale (POS) ordering.

I was told that her assailants who came in a motorbike disguised as customers lurking to transact business in her terminal.

The yet to be identified killers gained entry into her terminal and ordered everyone to lie down on their faces before she was attacked.

They first attempted to strangulate her but she bolted – to raise an alarm, and as she ran out to escape death, the armed men went after her and shot her twice on the chest.

These hoodlums left with nothing in the shop as there were money and other valuables in the shop- raising the suspicion that they must have been “hired assassins” contracted to kill Adetutu.

Adetutu has been buried in accordance with Muslim rites but her killers must not go freely. Justice must be served, her killers have murdered sleep in the face of her parents, families and loved ones. Rest in peace Adetutu. May your killers never know peace.

The bank has instructed that all torn and mutilated Naira notes should be taken to the banks on Monday in exchange for clean naira notes.

The message reads:

“As part of its efforts to improve the overall quality of the Naira notes in circulation, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced the Clean Note Policy and Banknotes Fitness Guidelines.

“What does this mean for you?

“If you have in your possession, overused or mutilated Naira notes, you are required by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Clean Note Policy to deposit such notes at any branch near you on or before Monday, September 2, 2019.

“Please note that overused notes include any Naira note that is now weak to such an extent that it could easily tear at further handling or processing. Mutilated notes include any Naira note that has been partially or permanently damaged, but which clearly still has more than half of its original size together.

“As Nigerians, it is our patriotic and collective responsibility to handle the Naira with care, and as your Bank, we urge you to comply with this directive in order to improve the quality of our national currency. Thank you for banking with us.”

Barcelona and Paris St-Germain have “reached an agreement on the value of Neymar” as a deal edges closer, says BBC Radio 5 Live’s Guillem Balague.

Barca have offered 200m euros (£182m) in cash, plus defender Jean-Clair Todibo, midfielder Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembele on a season-long loan.

Officials from both teams met in Paris on Tuesday to discuss a possible deal.

Brazil forward Neymar, 27, joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m).

At a news conference on Thursday, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said Neymar will not be involved in the Ligue 1 game against Metz on Friday.

After the breakthrough in negotiations, it now seems he will rejoin the Nou Camp club before Monday’s La Liga transfer deadline at 23:00 BST.

However, the deal hinges on the three players agreeing on a move to Paris, despite them “not knowing anything about it” being included in the transfer talks.

Balague added: “It is not done. There is still a big bridge to be crossed because none of the three players have said they want to go. Dembele’s agent recently said he is ‘200%’ staying at Barcelona.”

Manchester United and Inter Milan are yet to reach an agreement over a loan move for Alexis Sanchez to join up with the Italian giants this summer, BBC reports.

The Series A party hoped to see if by the end of this week they could put Sanchez on loan.

But the 30-year-old’s £390,000-a-week salary is proving to be problematic, as Inter are only prepared to pay less than half of the amount.

Despite the fact that Sanchez is keen to move away from Old Trafford,reports claims he doesn’t want to accept any significant wage cut that would make the move easier to complete.

Inter remain keen on the Chile forward, who has scored just five goals in a season-and-a-half playing for the reds.

However, it’s expected that both clubs come to terms at most September 2.

Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, stated that she was assigned to the ministry by President Muhammadu Buhari because he was aware of the role that females played in his political life.

She, therefore, assured that women will henceforth begin enjoying enormous support and cooperation from President Buhari.

Dame Tallen said that the key word she will dwell with is girl-child education because most vulnerable women are uneducated.

The minister spoke in Abuja while addressing staff of the ministry on her assumption of office.

She said: “This is a wholistic ministry as the woman takes care of the home, children and husband. I am giving you all a charge that things will be done different henceforth.

“We must set out targets and work towards achieving it. We must make history and make undelible mark on the sands of history.

“You have severally bombarded Mr. President about the role women played in his political carrer. He is not unmindful of that and I want to assure you that Mr. President has a very good reason of sending me to this ministry. You will see the enormous support and corporation we are going to enjoy from him.

“We all resolved to work as a team from our recent retreat. This ministry is multi facet and has a lot of responsibility. To touch the lives of the vulnerable.

“We have an uphill task to meet up with mandate of the ministry and demand of the president. Women do not go without the children; neither can they go without the men. This is the time to give back to the society.

“Women are the engine of the economy and must be carried along to improve the economy. Once women are empowered, the economy changes. We will make impact if we are able to improve on the life of the vulnerable woman. Support them with income generating activities, there will be peace and development.

“Most of the security problem is because we have out of school children. If we look for ways to engage these children meaningfully, the security situation will change. Then we will have peace.

“The key word I want to dwell with is the girl child education because most of the vulnerable women are uneducated. If a girl is uneducated, there is nothing she can do. She becomes vulnerable in the hand of men.

“We will collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Information to raise awareness among Nigerians and get everyone on board to guarantee that young people and our females are well involved in changing the economy.

“Nigeria has been going through a very challenging phase, safety, economy and bribery. We can stem the tide together. I need your full support to make a difference and make history.”

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has advised its members to seek tickets for the governorship of Kogi and Bayelsa that only electors, not party leaders, will decide their candidacy.

National Chairman, Uche Secondus, gave the advice on Wednesday in Abuja, at the presentation of clearance certificates to the aspirants.

“Work on the delegates; don’t rely on any party leader. Even members of the National Working Committee (NWC), cannot help you,” he said.

He assured the aspirants of a level playing ground, adding that the party had no preferred aspirant.

“Go and work on the delegates. They are the ones that will elect you as candidate; no one else, not even members of the NWC, can help you.

“All I can assure you is that we are going to conduct free, fair and transparent primaries in Kogi and Bayelsa States,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that certificates were issued to the cleared aspirants from the two states.

Among them were former Governor of Kogi, Idris Wada, Sen. Dino Melaye, Abubakar Ibrahim, a son of former Governor Ibrahim Idris, and 10 others.

Among those cleared for Bayelsa were Deputy Governor John Jona ; State Government Secretary (SSG), Kemela Okara, former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director, Timi Alaibe.

Ambassador Godknows Igali, Sen. Douye Diri and 16 others were on the Bayelsa list as well.
